are you still in Iraq?

:( yeah, my job is seriously sucking right now. I got a "manager" who can't manage and who wants to tell the Marines what they are going to do. This motherfucker almost got the whole team deported from Iraq.

I'm the only one that can talk to him and he won't listen. Other than the fact that this dude (who is a good person personally) is going to fuck the entire project. Things aren't bad here.

i've been looking at pocketpc/palm type things. mounting a large lcd in the dash fascia just isn't something that seems like a good idea

Ok. Don't get killed and come home safely soon.

No different that the navi systems that Acura, Honda, and Mazda provide. They aren't bad, my brother just picked up a WRX STI and is looking for a navi system to replace the one for his Acura.

Trust me one you get one you will be convinced. The in-dash navi system is the best decision I made for my car.

the difference is that there isn't enough space in the factory dash in most cars (true, many cars do have this much space just kind of sitting there), including mine, for the standard form factor lcd screen. i have seen people do it, but there's a lot you have to cut out and relocate; a surprising amount, really. for the sake or not having to reconstruct the dash if i ever sell the car, the handheld seems pretty decent, and it's def cheaper.

yah, the impreza has this kind of space. the rsx, not so much. everything above the rsx has factory mounts, however.

Not true, most navi systems are single DIN and the LCD screens are retractable.

But, I will willingly submit that your open is the more cost effective option. I just like the convience of having it right there.

o rly? i've never seen one of these. that sounds fuck me expensive though. besides, the pocket pc gives you a datalogger too ^_^

Oh yeah, do a search on alpine, kenwood, or panasonic in car navigation. What kind of options do you get with the datalogger? I know with those systems you have to wait for the upgraded disks.

They run from 1100 to 2100 depending on styles and options

it logs obd2 sensor data. speedo, tach, ec temp, etc. data directly from the ecu. can also read and clear codes

Check this site out. They have in-car, pocket PC and even cell phone GPS systems. I use the cell phone and PPC versions regularly and I really like it, so I would imagine the car version is similar to those in quality.
