Looking through all I played this year and most things were from previous years but here goes:
1. Uncharted 4 ; I enjoyed the entire Uncharted series - even the original - and this was the perfect swan song. Took everything from the previous games and made those mechanics better, added the new rope mechanic and a great storyline. The ending and epilogue was fantastic also. Easily my GOTY
2. Dark Souls 3 ; More of the same but still a great game.
3. Gears of War 4 ; I enjoyed this game very much. It really improved upon and refined the mechanics from the previous games in the series. Also Horde mode is a blast.
4. The Last Guardian ; The concept of this game is phenomenal. Also the graphics, the bonding with Trico, is a nice package. I would say the "highs" I got from this game were the best I got from gaming all year, the only reason why this game is this far down is that the control scheme (and not just having to be patient with Trico, but the controls overall) and execution were not the best.
5. The Division ; While the endgame might not be the best or what people were hoping for, the ride there was very fun....The graphics were amazing and some of the ideas they introduced could have a lot of potential in the sequel.
6. Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 ; Had a blast with this game. The missions were fun for what they were, but the continued play via co-op with my sons and playing online added a lot of mileage to the game.
7. Street Fighter V ; Mechanically this is the best fighting game I've ever played by far. THe SP options for this game really hold it back though. Despite this (and me being a scrub) I still sunk dozen of hours into this game.
8. Abzu ; Beautiful game. Due to it's ties with Journey will get a lot of comparison.
9. Quantum Break ; As long as you don't play it like a cover shooter, it's a lot better than what it seems otherwise. The integration with the TV episodes failed though IMO.
10. Dead Rising 4 ; This may be a factor of just playing it, but still really enjoyed it. I can understand why purists of the series would have their issues with the game though. Personally enjoyed this a lot more than DR3 - mainly because Frank West is such a better character than
