This is the thing that keeps me from participating in official threads about shit that I like. There's always this attitude among the posters that they're expert on the topic. Tennis, boxing, hip-hop, soccer... everyone starts dropping names, slang, and jargon like they invented whatever activity is being discussed, when they don't understand the essence of what makes it the thing it is.

I'm sure shinobi can tell us some story about listening to hip-hop since its inception and what it meant to him growing up, and he somehow feels entitled to be an artist's judge. It's not enough to say something is not your cup of tea? You have to tell the artist what category his music falls under?

OK, fine, it's not hip-hop. We're all wrong. Sorry.

What could you possibly be after?

I used to be like that. I tried to keep my hip-hop "pure" and would only include underground/independent artists in my play lists. Then i grew up and found merit in mainstream releases. Its all hip-hop to me. If something sounds good, im not going to try to label it and define it. I will just listen and be happy i get to listen to so much good music.

Alright, I've got my AOTY post all ready, when are making the goddamn thread. Everything worthy has been released right? Or is Rick Ross surprising us? Even if he does, its hard to imagine fitting him in with so little time left.

And I don't fuck with Blu at all, dudes boring as fuck, and the sound quality puts me off.

Save Our Souls should be out next week...

If that is what keeps you from participating in threads catering to subjects you like, you may as well not post. As you know, it's very normal for this to happen. In all honesty, just do you. Believe what you want to believe. I'm sure in this thread there are people who have different definitions of what hip-hop or rapping is, but that shouldn't totally take away from the experience that you'll get by taking part.

I must have heard of and listened to over 50+ artists due to GAF-Hop, and I'm thankful for it. Do I agree with everything that's being said in here? No. We're one rowdy family, and sometimes tough love is the only way to go about solving things.

It is just an opinion which he is allowed to have, even though he is wrong he is allowed to have that opinion. Thats the great thing about these threads, you get to hear different opinions on music and tastes. Look at kampsy for example he has his own tastes and backs them up. It is just all the camaraderie that goes on and you get to learn about new artists all the time. That is the great thing about this thread.

I just don't take it seriously, we all yell loud in here, so we have to be extra loud and attention whoring and extreme to stand out sometimes. And most of us feel comfortable enough with each other to express our opinions in a blunt and aggressive manner and not end up on someones list of people on the internet to kill. I certainly can't speak for everyone but I respect everyone who is a regular here even if I vehemently disagree with them. Even while I'm telling them to suck my dick cause im god, I still respect their opinion because in the end they love hip hop, and thats all that matters to me.

You're looking way to into it. First of all, regardless of all the smack talk that goes around here between members of Gaf-Hop and all, we all respect everyone's opinion. This is a discussion forum after all. And second, I'm no expert, and there's no such thing as a expert when it comes to musical taste. And I didn't say I hate the Roots album, I love it. Just said, is not a Hip-Hop record.

The funny thing is, only Recon, that asshole, actually responded close(And someone else as well) to the answer, on the Topic on hand. While others were on Gaf-hop mode, lol*I'm guilty of this as well* I know what Hip-hop is, and everyone here does as well, but do they understand what it really is? Does have a sound? Or a style? No, is formless, that's the beauty of it, is something you feel. Siddx moms said it best...*Can't find the post, but I know some of ya remember*

But yeah homie, grow a pair, and handle discussions like a man, yo.

Let his asshole respond. Siddx's moms quote was something about how hip-hop is great because of the stories it tells and how personal it is. Or something to that effect.

I mean this in all seriousness, in terms of being a moody dark emotional album, I'm enjoying the new Co$$ more than the Roots...Looks my list is getting weirder and weirder. Like where the fuck did this masterpiece come from?...Co$$ is constantly leveling up
