I'm a keep it real. I never listened to Blu aside from the first 30 seconds of you YT links from GAF HOP.

Which album of his is considered "the classic"?

The first time I listened to BTH this year I did not expect to like it at all. Shit blew me away.

A lot of albums don't gel with me on the first listen. This did.

HerFavColor, So(ul) Amazing Part 1, So(ul) Amazing Part 2, Untaped EP

I didn't dislike NoYork, although it was certainly different.

Omg my exact list, *hugs*...Boss Co.2 is like the only dope song from No York!

Oh yeah and Jesus could have been quite solid if only the quality weren't so ass

Like what? That Indie Rock/Neo Soul album from the Roots? Like I said, great record, in my top ten, but not in my Hip-Hop list. Because is not a Hip-Hop record. Rage Against The Machine albums are more Hip-Hop than the New Roots. To be frank, I like the direction were the Roots are headed.

I dont know if there is such thing as true form hip hop, music in general is always evolving so trying to classify The Root's album as not hip hop is kind of nit picky to be honest. It has the lyrical prowess and form of hip hop, but the beats and band element are something that is from rock/soul. I would just call it hip hop and leave it at that. There is no reason to try to classify it as anything else.

I will never understand how he's willing to classify Undun as neo-soul and yet seems appalled at the suggestion that Take Care isn't a pure hip-hop album.

Alright, I've got my AOTY post all ready, when are making the goddamn thread. Everything worthy has been released right? Or is Rick Ross surprising us? Even if he does, its hard to imagine fitting him in with so little time left.

And I don't fuck with Blu at all, dudes boring as fuck, and the sound quality puts me off.

Can't believe no one really fucked with Gunz N' Butta, but I will definitely check out BOAB3.

Also Blu is the best shit to listen to for social joint passing sessions, especially when surrounded by chill people.

If it sounds like a Indie Rock/Neo-Soul album, it must be a "Indie Rock/Neo-soul" album. I bet if it didn't have the name "Roots" on it, people will say otherwise. Undun, the best b-boy album, yo. LMAO!

What fucking stupidity. Undun was kind of light on raps, but it was still a true hip-hop album. Because hip-hop isnt some rigid definition.

Hip-hop:2
: the stylized rhythmic music that commonly accompanies rap; also : rap together with this music .

Do The Roots fall under this? yes. Does Undun fall under this? yes.

I mean this in all seriousness, in terms of being a moody dark emotional album, I'm enjoying the new Co$$ more than the Roots...Looks my list is getting weirder and weirder. Like where the fuck did this masterpiece come from?...Co$$ is constantly leveling up

No. Z-Ro sings for 90% of a track, is Hip-Hop. Someone else does it, is R&B. Get of the name, and listen to the record. Hip-Hop does have a "Rigid Definition" is not my fault you don't know wtf it is. Because by your definition, Alex Ebert and Bach, are "Hip-Hop" This conversation reminds me how Free jazz, ruined Jazz. Thank you rich folks.

Again, you are showing your ignorance. Hip-Hop isnt easily defined, because of the many sub-genres and types of music that are on the fringe of hip-hop. The Roots are hip-hop. And Undun is a hip-hop record. I have listened to it about 6 times just last week. You dont have to agree with me, fine. But you are not some overlord of hip-hop that decides what constitutes hip-hop.
