Mia X- Good Girl Gone Bad

MI0002457184.jpg

After the release of the successful mainstream album by TRU entitled “True” The first lady of the No Limit camp has a thing or two to say with her debut EP “Good Girl Gone Bad”. For the most part, this is a pretty good debut album as Mia goes hard on tracks like “Ghetto Sarah Lee”, “Here Comes the Drama”, and my personal favorite “Payback 2”. Mia X is such a underrated female MC and it truly shows on this album, as she demonstrates lyrical technique throughout the album. She’s no slouch and can hang with some of the best when it comes down to ripping the mic. One thing I truly appreciate about this album is the fact that she didn’t disguise her native origins like Master P. As the album “True” went into a southern approach, Mia was like screw it…I’m going full New Orleans and it shows on a few tracks like my favorite track “Payback 2”. There’s something about that old school New Orleans bounce that does the soul good.

One interesting thing about this album was the disrespect from Master P towards Yukmouth. For those who don’t know, Yukmouth had beef with Master P over the Ice Cream Man name since he came up with the song first. Master P not only took the name, but named his forthcoming album after the name. He even gloats about it on one of the commercials on Good Girl Gone Bad. What a troll!

Anyway, the album closes out with an emotional track known as “R.I.P Jill” which was dedicated to her fallen friend. Bottom line, it’s a good album even though there are some slow moments on the album. I recommend giving this album a shot to hear one of the most slept on female mcs of all time.

Overall Score: 8.0

Terrible album, especially Andre's corny shit.

ya'll really need to stop with this. dracula's wedding was corny but fun, and you had lots of shit like ghettomuzik and whatever too
feel like ya'll should aim this at the idlewild shit

Q-Tip had an album the year before called Open which was just like The Love Below, even down to Tip singing most of the album.
Andre even features on one of the tracks!
So his label shelved the album, Andre ran with the style and a year later dropped TLB.
'It's revolutionary' 'Andre is a genius' etc, etc. He even won a grammy.

Q-Tip got robbed!

(I like The Love Below though, still today too)

damn, never seen it laid out like that...and here i thought the maxwell shots from phife were the worst of it
Say Something for Me was one of my favorites

:(...now that just shitted on my day.

At least we got this gem though

Smh this Speakerboxxx/Love Below hatred is going to stop and cease NOW! The album was a big deal back in the days and it's still good to this very day.

I liked some of The Love Below's tracks. Namely She Lives in My Lap, Prototype Pink & Blue, Spread, Vibrate and Take Off Your Cool, but it had some clunkers. And neither Love Below nor Speakerboxxx can compare to ATLiens, Aquemini or Stankonia.

True, but the hate for the album seems blind as hell when it wasn't as bad as Idlewild. It was just different for it's time. I remember when dudes had the screw face over The Love Below and just picked Speakerboxxx because "this shit ain't hip hop mayne". Yet, nobody ACTUALLY listened to that album and appreciate what Andre did in 2003. Dude constructed the blueprint for Cudi, Charles Hamilton, J Cole, and a lot of dudes nowadays.

ON HIS FRIENDSHIPS WITH MEEK MILL AND DRAKE

“On some real shit, I love Meek. And the Drake situation, I feel like genuinely we’ve been building a great relationship over these years. We got history together. We went on a few tours together so it was like, publicly, some things was said and it was took out of context. And even with the situation coming out, we put it all behind us, went on a sold out tour and we built from that and I feel like it’s genuine, it’s authentic and we built trust between each other. So with trust it’s just bringing us closer because in this industry, as you get bigger, I feel like you lose trust for everyone around you. You feel like the people you come in contact with, you can’t trust them. So I feel like it had to happen over years, that couldn’t happen over a few months.”

I don't think anyone really hated the album (In the real sense of the word, not the meaning it has now) it simply wasn't as good as the previous records plus I didn't like the idea of one of my favorite groups basically splitting up and releasing two separate records.

Well most guys are on the trap wave now, your best bet to get smoother stuff are dudes like A2H and Aelpéacha :

Merci beaucoup ; )

"even Stankonia"? Jesus. Where have I landed. EDIT: What I meant: I don't think you'd have to add "even" - it's Top 3 OutKast. Love Below is a personal classic.

S/L was hit and miss for me, tracks like bust, flip flop rock, reset and tomb of the boom really stand out on Big Boi's side but had too many fillers. same with andre's side
