Nah...nah....next time I need space on the iPod, these Jurassic 5 albums have got to go.

I'm listening to Power in Numbers in absolute disbelief. I actually bought this

Weird.

I would love to see that performed live with a full band. To really play up the jazz and funk aspects of the record. Shit, make it one night so he can get Glasper and Kamasi and everyone on stage and record it to put it out on blu-ray.

Will never happen, but that'd be dope.

Disown your culturally relevant album cause you ain't bangers brehs
Naw, I don't buy it. I think he means in full. I bet there is gonna be some kind of TDE tour after Q and Rashad drop in the next 7 months.

Shit, at least there is a Kunta Session announced for LA on November 11th. Not gonna miss it.

that's wack. i think some of those songs don't work live like the one where he cries and shit but king kunta really hit well on colbert. live band makes some of those songs pop, i too. he should tour the album.

he's calling it a kunta session? smh levar burton did not take the whip for this.

lol

Anyway, I doubt Kendrick's dropping the entire record from his sets. If fickle Future fans not feeling that funk hurt his soul that bad, he shouldn't have ever even made the record in the first place.

This will probably be the end of him playing it in full tho

So the past couple weeks I've gone back and listened to TPaB a lot more.... Yeah, it's probably AOTY. I think I kinda knew this at release, but as other equally great albums started coming out (Yen Lo, Summertime, DS2) it kinda fell to the back burner. But man, such a fleshed out piece of work with so many layers. These next two months I'm gonna keep listening to these few (my definitive top four) to try and nail down my ranking because it's been flip flopping in order since spring, but I'm leaning this way now.

That sax on u, brehs. *whew*

Similar thing happened to me. Listened to it on and off for months, respected the cultural significance but couldn't get into the music. Then one day I pulled in the driveway as Mortal Man wrapped up and shit just hit me.

Pretty much got that Summertime and DS2 constantly juggling for aoty.

Everything doesn't have to be accessible to be good if that's what you mean by listenable.

Oh I totally agree with this, I'm glad we got TPAB. I was referring to PD's post where he thought Kdot should go a little more mainstream. By listenable I mean something that can stay in your rotation longer, I rarely replay TPAB, not that its a condemnation of the album.

This would indicate that TPaB is the greatest album of a decade and not, in fact, a provocative album with mixed reception in real (non-critic/blog) life

It doesn't indicate anything about the album aside from it being a weak commercial asset...

Agree. Sometimes it is nice to have something you can listen to more, but that doesn't take anything away from a one and done album. Just different.

PD was saying that Kdot couldnt double down on the TPAB sound, and while I'm not sure I agree - I do think that he would sound great over Devonte Hynes sound.

You guys love Frank Ocean huh? What you guys think of John Legend?
I like him. More into his first two albums than anything that's come after, but he's talented.

His second album had some grooves. Probably my favourite of his.

I actually don't love Frank Ocean. Crazy potential, but Channel Orange didn't stick with me for some reason. Even if I really liked some tracks (like Pyramids).

Kendrick needs to go mainstream if you have absolutely no metric of how popular he is besides reading rap forums or grumble grumble radio suxx. The only more mainstream level is your expendable pop artists like Kid Ink, etc. There is no need or want from any party in this regard, and switching your whole solo shit up isn't the only way to be popular in the mainstream, which everyone should know considering how Kendrick blew up specifically.

I'll be the first to shit on TPAB but that aside it's just not a good "live" album. Seen Kenny maybe 4 times at this point and I can't imagine a crowd going wild over any cut on that album (maybe alright?) compared to how nuts everyone went over shit like bitch don't kill my vibe or swimming pools.

He needs to bring out Bruno Mars on King kunta.

Almost 3 weeks since I deleted my Facebook brehs. Best decision I ever made. Made a pact to myself to stay off at least a year. Feels pretty freeing tbh, not needing to be up in the lives of 700 Facebook friends, just on my own grind. There are downsides to not having one, but I'm sticking to this, wanna see how it plays out, who maintains contact with me and who doesn't, etc.

facebook is wack aside from the memes.

It indicates that even Kendrick doesn't really have faith in the album if he's shelving it for live performances when it's less than a year old.

i think at this point he just wants to wash his hands of this cycle altogether. he got the critical acclaim and he still did some numbers sales wise. but i get the sense this whole cycle was ridiculously taxing on him mentally. from that billboard interview fiasco to the flubbed release and none of the songs catching on really. i could see why he wants to be done with it.

i don't think he really grasped (who could?) all that came with the statement that he wanted to make.
