Seriously.
I wonder if he can get a Drake stimulus package- but can't he drop something w/ Rocky and Kenny on it?

Something.

Drake won't be doing anything for TDE.

But I agree, getting ASAP and Kendrick on a Mustard/Mike Will/etc track would make sense. You can't rely on Q to write a chorus that works in the mainstream; he basically lucked out with Hands On The Wheel, which came with that dope chorus.

Listening to this Rashad...it's dope. But even with him, does ANYONE think this dude is going to even sell 50k records, ever? And I'm surprised he hasn't done a track with Kendrick yet; hell Kendrick isn't even on the Shot You Down remix.

TDE was built to dominate the underground, and they did. Now they're out of their league.

It just feels like rappers dont have the same ambition anymore. Can you guys see TDE or MMG or ASAP mob doing anything like that 45 minute Rocafella Takeover freestyle? Or putting out mixtapes like G Unit did? Where's the hunger? The drive to be better? These dudes are are backsliding.

What? You crazy lmao. You dont even know shit about other heavy q4 releases coming out then. Never start day trading.

then bet me vetch

The hunger is still there I feel and they used to release a lot more music before they were in the limelight, but now they're taking a new approach. A lot of new school artists (J. Cole) do the same thing where they hold onto music for so long, sometimes too long.

Keep faith brehs.

Honestly- and I know alot of yall disagree

But Rawss for his stature is pretty good at this, even if fatigue will inevitably set in. dude is ALWAYS shooting videos and putting out freestyles and shit.

MMG dropped hella music last year.

...But I'm hoping St. Vincent sells some albums.

You know theres gonna be some country shit that will def do more, doesn't necessarily have to drop that week.

Although yeah, late winter releases are scaaarce.

If there's a new Kenny Chesney album Q is fucked. All the few people I know who listen to rap irl are bigger country dudes. You ain't real if you never been in a bar watch the music go from Swimming Pools to pretty much anything off of "Hemmingway's Whiskey"

2013 should have been there year. Instead it was Kendrick's year thanks to a verse.

Why not Jay Rock or Ab mixtape? Hell take the MMG route and release a Q mixtape to build hype for the album.

I don't get why anyone here cares so much about the labels themselves. Its like console fanboyism .

Who cares what TDE as a label does. Kendrick made it so hopefully the rest of the guys can release solid stuff off of Kendrick's success. But more than that who cares what they as a label do. So long as they make profit to keep putting music out.

Kendrick was almost willed to be the next big thing by the industry and the fans. There isn't that push for Q and he is going to have to do it on his own. All it would take is one big single that makes him a household name. He doesn't have that. So he will do what most talented group members who don't make it big do, release good music but always be in the shadows behind the main man.

I dont get it either, but just like console fanboys on the gaming side, its highly entertaining to read.

? They've done pretty well for the level of talent they have.

in 2013 you had:

Struggle Wale- Gifted- 158k
MMG 3- 50k

And a bunch of mixtapes out.

MMG 3 doing 50K is good?

A Barrage of trash tapes nobody listened too?

and awesome Wale dropped

Right after

Thing about releasing a mixtape before an album, is that what usually happens is that the mixtape is better than the Album.

Control was hunger. The last time we've seen non-Kanye hunger like that in hip-hop was probably Drake's explosion onto the scene. He said he'd do everything he could to reach that top spot and he did. Took singing classes to get better hooks and improve songwriting, and he penetrated the ranks. Maybe it was just that documentary I watched way back but dude was never concerned with maintaining his position, he was always on to the next.

It's not about pitting labels against each other, it's about critiquing the careers of artists people like that can be ended based off of stupid decisions. Maybe you'll see it clearer when the well dries up and those artists start rhyming over 00s dipset beats to try and get back on, lose even more hunger and spiral into mediocrity.

We talk about sales a lot more than we used to. Though I bet early 2000s were all about sales discussion.

Q will do fine, but he isn't gonna be a superstar. Release a MOTY video and have him release music we expect from him and we're fine.

Q and St. Vincent on the same day is still just insane. Eatin'.

I just want to see TDE succeed, and as a fan I can't help but be disappointed at their behavior. I'm not buying stock in them, like some console fanboy.

The question is, who's gonna be Beanie Sigel? Q or Jay Rock. Because Ab Soul is destined for Amil/Bleek status. Isaiah Rashad will be Young Chris, and SZA will be Peedi Crakk.

You're a sports guy right? I shouldn't have to explain the rationale behind any of my label love when you probably go to sports bars making exclamations like "Fuck the Blue Donkeys, they always beat my Orange Hiyenas...All WE have to do is play some defense and the game is OURS."

Just remembered Q said that there would be J. Cole production on Oxymoron.

Could be really weak or good.. Cole usually gives away his best beats and keeps the trash for himself.

Nah, just not my style. You're saying Q after several pushbacks, no cosigns or truly successful tours, and with no single will outsell Dierks Bentley, a guy whose last album went gold three times over, and The Fray who've gone plat several times before. Im right, you're wrong.

Or Q's success relies solely on him delivering a hit. And if that's something he can't do or won't do (due to his own personal style or taste) than he will have to come to terms with being one of those dudes who most fans recognize is super talented but won't crack the mainstream barrier. He isn't getting the Kendrick industry push.

Just eat off of the success Kendrick has. Only if you deliver that one big hit that gets the mass audience to take a look at you, then you will succeed. No one will care about the delays, sample issues, or whether he missed some imaginary momentum the label had.

The label never had the momentum btw. It was all Kendrick. No one listened to his album and thought man I can't wait for other offerings from TDE. They all thought man I can't wait for more from Kendrick.

This isn't some new phenomena. Most all rap labels have the one dude who makes it big and then his buddies who eat off of scraps. Very rarely do you see superstars emerge from the same camp. Why would anyone expect anything different from this situation?

You're a sports guy right? I shouldn't have to explain the rationale behind any of my label love when you probably go to sports bars making exclamations like "Fuck the Blue Donkeys, they always beat my Orange Hiyenas...All WE have to do is play some defense and the game is OURS."

Well of course if you are viewing rap as a sport then that makes sense. Personally I hate viewing rap solely as a sport because I feel the music suffers from this mentality.

I only wish for artists I like to make enough to at least continue to keep making music. What their label does or projecting how much they will sell seems more like console war talk to me than sports talk. In sports you are rooting for the team to win, That is your source of entertainment, the team winning. A rap label winning brings you no enjoyment much like Sony or Nintendo being #1 brings you no personal enjoyment. That joy should be from the games or in this case the music.

You analogy would work if I was rooting for the owner of my favorite team to make more money off of ticket sales. And really "WE" and "OUR" talk? lol who the fuck cares? You think fans actually think they are playing or on the team? Its just common lingo used when talking about a team.

I just want to see TDE succeed, and as a fan I can't help but be disappointed at their behavior. I'm not buying stock in them, like some console fanboy.

But they are succeeding. They are talked about by most all bloggers, internet music sites, and without releasing any major project were still talk of the rap industry. Why all the gloom and doom? Its as if you are going out of your way to project their demise only to say "told yall so".

What moves could have they have really made short of Kendrick releasing a follow up that would have done better for them? People who loved Kendrick might check out Q but the majority won't. That's not on TDE, that's just how the industry works. Again unless he releases a super cross over hit.
