Never been a big Migos guy but Culture is fucking fire. Easy listen, I didn't get wore out by the end like someone said. No real filler, it's solidly consistent. And holy shit, I hadn't heard any of the singles either and wow, Bad & Boujee and T-Shirt are like 10 flame emojis. First album of 2017 that feels like a top 10 contender. Good shit.

im more surprised you havent heard bad and boujee until now, shits everywhere i go

Lol, those would've been my two (and probably only) favorite songs of his, too.

Haha. Yeah I'm still not sure if I'd call him a "good" artist. I like him for inspiring this Gaf-Hop classic though.

Maccondordian is a fuckboy. In The Bity should have been the end of his chapter. That's the type of music slaves got beat to, I cant fuck with it. Especially not in February.

Listen to In the Bity for a good laugh.

Missy Elliot ft. Lamb - I'm Better video. Not really feeling this. Very Missy-esque video, not so much for the song.

Haven't really paid much attention to Migos in the past because not enough of their stuff has stuck with me, but, at least as far as singles goes, they seem to be hitting their stride and have earned their first full project listen from me.

EDIT: Also Quavo killing a million features last year might have more to do with it. Just cooking on every verse. How the fuck do I have multiple verses from the same rapper stuck in my head right now?

Yeah, Quavo definitely is the best of the bunch. Offset had some good ones, too. Takeoff is the least emorable to me. Other than Quavo I still have trouble telling the other two apart sometimes, though.

And, agreed, the Missy track doesn't work. No energy. Wack hook. Boring beat.

Little late, but happy birthday Cheddahz.

Culture is pretty dope imo. We'll see if it's replayable, but the production + Quavo (and sometimes Offset) is enough on first listen.

My buddy in Tokyo, Z. Konketsuji (hyperlink to music video), just released his first album. I wonder what you all would think of it. He's a really cool guy, and he works really hard on his music.
He released his album, The Patient Discovery, for free. You can listen to the whole thing on Youtube.

He's also had some pretty awesome art of himself done.

10 tracks into the Migos album.. it's kind of what I was afraid of, which is most of the songs that aren't the singles are pretty unremarkable.

The album is pretty good. The singles are by far the best tracks on there. I went in expecting to hear a few more songs as good as T-Shirt and B&B but no. Still a good album and a nice start to the year.

Yeah.. the singles are probably the only tracks on there that I'll go back to. T-Shirt still a monster track

Hellooooooooooooooo!

any good tapes lately? looking for something in the same vein as skewby, XV (mmh seems all my favorite rappers are destined to fail) no autotune, no trap.

something like old weeknd and frank is appreciated as well.

thanks in advance!

I didn't know Ugly Mane was having these problems too.
I'm struggling with releasing bedwetter. I look at it less like an album and more like a sonic document of my life at this exact moment. a conveniently placed microphone and finger on a record button. I don't want to be misconstrued as sensationalizing mental illness, disassociation, trauma. I don't want to look at reviews of how "dope" it is, or how this one song sounded like some fool I'm not even familiar with.

I can't get help, bottom line. I've tried. I can't get appointments, the emergency hospital discharged me cuz I "didn't want to kill myself or anybody else". I'm thankful for the people I have around me that are trying to help. I don't know where I'd be with out that support but I feel like all I can do to remain positive is record. At least create something. It's exercise. It's a walk around the block. It's getting out of bed. Hip hop, to me, IS about keeping it real. Rap is supposed to be reality. my reality is fucked. If you look at everything post MTI that's what I've done. I've attempted to shed this unwanted understanding of what this project was and thru the platform and audience I have, attempt to explain what it could be. I'm weary to release this project as a whole. I will because maybe at the least I won't feel as alone or some people that hear it will feel less alone but as someone who values and even fights for his privacy at the expense of himself. This record is difficult. There's a lot of songs. Im probably gonna break them into chapters or something. Idk.

YES, BLESS UP!

People mistake the ER for a catch-all treatment center when really the primary function seems to be get people stable and somewhat comfortable in between waiting to see their primary care or better suited specialists. They don't have the funding to do full on detox or treat people who don't seem to be immediate threats to themselves or others. So while it's fucked up, he didn't go to the right place to receive help.

Happy Birthday Cheddahz!

In honor of iLoveMakkonnen coming out this week, please post your favorite songs by him.
Doubted feat. Key!
Swerve from Mike Will Made It's Ransom

Ya'll acting like he don't have some hits though:

Don't Sell Molly

Down 4 So Long
Wishin You Well
Vodka on the Weekend

Man of the Party
Sex, Love, Exctasy
Maneuvering

Cornrow Kenny now confirmed to drop back-to-back-to-back classics though.

And in all honesty, I think it is going to come back in a major way over the next couple of months. I mean, it's only been a week since he's been elected and all this shit has happened. Maybe everyone hoped he'd turn out to be decent, but now that his true colors have been revealed, I'd bet there's going to be a veritable renaissance of politcially charged hip-hop. Hell, look at T.I. He went from going all trap into dropping two incredibly political works. Guys like Vic Mensa, Kendrick Lamar, Kemba, Pusha T, etc. are all in the studio now, definitely cooking up something.

Pusha changed his album title from King Push to Blobama, a change I think implies a more political bent. Vic's abandoned Traffic for something...else. And you're going to hear a lot more voices come out against this bullshit. I think what'll really be interesting is to see how really famous rappers/hip-hop artists i.e. Kanye, Drake, the Weeknd, Diddy, Pharrell, Jay Z etc. will react to this. Who're the ones that'll be silent throughout this?

Jay already didn't comment when asked about Trump the other day.

but Dave Chappelle said to give Trump a chance
I think we all wanted to believe he'd be someone decent once he got into power. IT was our last resort; when everything else had failed us, when the facts were staring us in the face, a lot of us, me included, just kinda hoped he'd turn out to be someone playing the Republican party in some grand Andy Kaufman-esque stunt. Well, that chance has been given and he's turned out to be just as shitty as we had dreamed of. In all honesty, we can protest all we want but the only thing that'll change this is if, in his idiocy and lack of foresight, he decides to harm the voter base that elected him in the first place.

When he doesn't bring coal back, when rural white America succumbs more and more to heroin, when the aging population realizes they're going to have to pay more and more just to survive, when the smart folks decide to flee to a country that won't censor them, when every single diplomatic bridge has been burned, when Trump's beloved hotels start becoming one with the ocean, then we stand a chance of learning from this fucking debacle. America voted to drive off a cliff, and they people who voted for this need to see just how deep rock bottom is before realizing how badly they fucked up.

The next four years are going to be pain, not only in terms of lost progress but also in terms of just decent people suffering for no fault of their own. And I can really only hope this travesty of an election becomes a turning point for America. Hope is about all we have right now.

Not really hip-hop unless you consider Malibu to be wholly hip-hop, but this is pretty dope to me, reminds me of my boy James Pants a bit:

Also this got some cuts on it for sure:

GrandeMarshall's project got some cuts too:

One of the best projects released this year:

Stoner AOTY thus far:
