GAF recommend me some keyboards

My wireless Logitech keyboard died on me last weekend and I've been struggling with this as my keyboard.

Obviously, I'm not gonna be able to use this with PC gaming. At all. Typing papers is also right out, too.

I had a friend recommend to me the Saitek PC Gaming Keyboard. I looked it up and saw Best Buy carries them. Went to best Buy yesterday and checked it out. It seems really Xtreme Gamerz ZOMG to me. That's not really what I'm looking for. I'm looking for reliablility, good wireless latency (if it's wireless) and above all, comfortability.

Here's a pic of the Saitek Keyboard:

So my question to you, GAF knowledge base, is what keyboard do you use? What games do you play with it? What would you recommend for someone who'll use their new keyboard for Source games, BF2, WoW and paper-typing?

I have this wireless set. I guess it's about $110 or something. I got it for free. They're TOTALLY awesome. Lookitthat! Scroll wheel on the keyboard!

thats sexy...

but I hate wireless stuff, the only wireless things in my room are the remot controls and the WaveBird

I like my stuff to be 100% reliable

It's quite nice. I don't notice lag at all and the battery life is OUTSTANDING. I've owned it 9 months and only had to replace the batteries one on the keyboard and twice on the mouse.

My previous wireless mouse sucked balls. Needed to be recharged with a crappy AC adaptor plug every other day, and after 30 seconds of no-touchy, it turned off and needed to be clicked to be reactivated.

Oh. I should mention this. The scroll wheels on my mouse/keyboard are frictionless. There's no sound or clicking or grooves it finds as it rolls. You have to learn what triggers a click. You become a lot more precise with it and have a LOT more controll over your scrolling of webpages.

I was going to recommend to you the wireless Logitech keyboard, but I guess that's not going to work for you.

I've had mine for 2 years now and it works amazingly well.

I don't even have a mac at home. But it's the best thing in the world to type on. Use it with a PC if you like, it has two USB ports on it. Oh, and nothing glows blue.

It is the BEST.

That's the tiny baby brother to the logitech DiNovo... which is suprisingly, a better looking keyboard... infact, one of the best if not the best looking keyboard around.
Also one of the most expensive standard config keyboards around.

But you get blue tooth keyboard/mouse, detatched numpad, which doubles as a remote control... and the sleek elegance that you'd expect to find in a high class CEO's office or some such.

Personally I dont think the DiNovo is better looking. Also I think it's too expensive and has no features which for me would justify the price tag it comes with, but everone has to know for himself.

I also think the Ultra-X is better looking. I hate the blue on the DiNovo. Plus, the Ultra-X is like €22 over here, the DiNovo €250.

Couple of red LED's at €0.35 a piece and done :D

(as seen here)

1 LED was DOA, that's why the scroll-lock is still the standard green - but has been changed since this picture was taken.

Logitech Elite keyboard is the best keyboard I have ever used. Its a discontinued item, but I found one at Wal-Mart a week ago for $15. Even though it is well worth more than that.

I'm curious...what happened to your Logitech wireless? That's what I've been using for about a year and I love it...do they tend to break down or were you abusive of it?

I'd recommend the Logitech Cordless MX Duo if you hadn't already said Logitech was the keyboard that broke down on you. =/

Does the Logictech UltraX have a "laptop" keyboard sort of feel? I basically work on a Thinkpad for about 8-10 hours in a day and have come to really appreciate the tactile feedback of their keyboards. I've been in the hunt for a new keyboard for some time, and that one certainly has the look of a good laptop keyboard-just wondering about the feel.

I have missed my Microsoft naturalkeyboard since like 1999, since i havent got my old one to work with a DIN->PS2 adapter, or to track down a new USB .

Build to withstand the impact of small arms fire.

God, I'm glad those things aren't around still.... that clicking sound was fucking loud and obnoxious.

For those that are stuck in the past and can't let go, it's not a bad item... but for everyone else... visual feedback from the screen is more than adequate, given the speed of the feedback nowadays (as opposed to back then, when you could be typing and the characters would appear slowly on screen).
But that's exaggerating it, because even normal keyboards still have a good deal of auditory and tactile feedback... it's just not as obnoxious as the mechanical type keyboards...

I much prefer the gunmetal, satin black, electroluminescent blue color scheme of the blue tooth dinovo to the X-type...

But I'll agree, it is far too expensive if you weigh its features against its cost.

But it's about as good a keyboard as you'll find. Unless you're a weirdo that needs aggressive tacticle feedback or prefer the minimalism of the apple type keyboards (i.e. all you xtype folks) to the functional minimalism of the dinovo.

Unfortunately, the included mouse is a step below their best, which is a shame, given the premium price of that package.

I'm really recomending this, not so much for you, but if there is anyone else out there like me. I type all day long, and when I come home I game on my computer. For a while I was getting to the point where I was going to end up with Carpel Tunnel. I would have to take Tylenol just to keep the inflamation in my wrists down just so I could type.

Until I found this keyboard.

It takes a little bit to get used to, but trust me, there is not a more comfortable keyboard out there. Its the only keyboard that doesn't hurt my wrists anymore. If any of you out there are programmers, or you do a lot of typing I recomend this keyboard. Your wrists will thank you. I made my co-worker try it one day, and he went and bought his own almost immediatly.

I'll second this. It just feels really nice.

Here's a good point for this one:

"Phantom key lockout: good for serious gamers who needs to press multiple keys at the same time"

Shitty keyboards can't handle multiple simultaneous inputs correctly, which puts a cramp on action gaming. I won't buy a keyboard unless I know it can do this properly.

My Logitech wireless just won't respond to key presses consistently anymore. It is kind of like the batteries are going dead, but I've tried 3 pairs of different, fresh batteries. I've changed the channel on the thing more times than I can count and cleaned it thuroughly. The keyboard is 3-4 years old so I can't complain about how long it's lasted. I tend to baby any piece of electronics I own, so it's not abuse causing this, that's for sure.

The DiNovo looks like sex in a box, but I'm not entirely sure on the price tag. I think the options I'm looking at most are the Apple keyboard (I'll want to use one before I buy it) and the Ulta-X. I could end up getting another Logitech wireless or possibly a couple other suggestions here. The Ideazon one must be nice in real life, but looking at pictures, it just looks fucking confusing. I think, after using this PS2 controller mini-keyboard, I know I want a keyboard that's laid out nice and wide. I have the real estate for a nice one and should take advantage of that.

I second that one. As a programmer I type my ass of every day. I had pain in my wrists that disappeared in two days after getting a similar keyboard as the one above.

Well, I went to CompUSA to get a keyboard and they had a nice selection. Unfortunately, I'm not really apt to buy one of those keyboard/mouse combos, so my selection was parred down quite a bit. I looked for the Logitech UltraX but there wasn't even mention of it in their stock manifest. They had the $150 and $250 versions of the DiNovo but I wasn't ready to drop the price of a PSP on a keyboard.

So I went over to the Mac section.

I wasshopping around there and the guy who was manning the station there seemed like a nice guy. A nice Apple cultie guy. I noticed they had a wired and a wireless version of the standard Apple keyboard and asked him if the wireless keyboard would work with my Windows PC. He tried to hide it as best he could, but his face looked like I just asked him if raping his girlfriend would be better for him on Thursday or Saturday.

Visibly upset, he said he didn't know and he'd have to ask the supprt staff. He rushed off to them leaving me to browse the G5's for a bit. He came back and said they were too busy to field the question but there's no way it'd work. It's an Apple keyboard and I'm using a *sniff* PC. "Besides, it's Bluetooth, and you'd need that."
"Perfect, I have a bluetooth adapter from my Microsoft mouse!" I said. The young man looked like he was contemplating taking my life then and there.
I looked at the keyboards and some other products with him for a bit more, all the while he must've been plotting my kidnapping. I noticed the wired keyboard had 2 USB ports on it and thought that'd be perfect. So I grabbed one and headed up front. That's what I'm typing this out on now. It's nice, it's sturdy, it's fully functional, it's comfortable. And it was only $30.
