GAF, what phone should I get (Android)

So many Android users would have such a better experience if they learned to root and install custom ROMs on their phone. Oh, your phone feels bloated? Wipe it and install a custom ROM, problem solved.

I've heard the S7 is great though and Touchwiz has improved a lot.

And if it ever starts to feel bloated or slow, spend a few hours looking up how to root your phone and install a custom ROM. You'll add years to the life of your phone.

Every year its the same thing from Samsung. We've heard this for years. I'll see you a few months down the road when I'm on Android P with a great battery life, and the Note 8 is barely pulling a day's worth of battery, and struggles to get Google Maps up and running when you need it the most.
Ive only had a couple Samsung devices (Note 3, Galaxy s6 Edge), but Ive never had any of these problems you describe, evens after a couple years of use.

I doubt I will have them when I get the Note 8 in a few weeks either.

Agree with this though. Touchwiz seemed annoying so I have always used Nova Launcher

I've had those exact two phones, I don't believe you at all.
uhhh...okay. lol
I dont know what to tell you. Maybe Ive been lucky. Maybe you have been unlucky.
Maybe sometimes people just have different experiences based on other factors.
Have you tried any launchers instead of touchwiz?
Have you had any other Samsung phones?
Have you ever had a good experience with Samsung?

I say keep your s6 and wait for the galaxy 10, I bet it will be a big upgrade, like the iphone 10.

I have, and I have a Note 8 now that's amazing. The Note 3 was Samsung bloat at its fattest and least trimmable. I used NOVA launcher but it couldn't fix too many issues related to the terrible optimization Samsung had then. The S6 edge with its diminutive battery, high resolution screen, terrible cooling in its slim form, and more bad optimization was set up to fail.

Different experiences for sure, but I refuse to believe those two phones aged well when they were both set up not to by Samsung itself.

And this is why Android gets a bad rap.
"Oh your phone is slow? Just use these custom janky scripts to root, then erase your phone OS, install TWRPPWPP, then install this custom OS because I think it's the best. Oh it's making your phone act funny? Try this custom OS, and install this, etc."

Nothing wrong with tinkering, but these kind of comments scare people away. Some people want an Android phone that Just Works™.

But the fact you can actually do things like that is the reason I prefer Android.

I'd also argue that looking at this topic the same (Android gets a bad rap) could be said in another context.

We have people saying it's "known" that Samsung phones work like crap after a year while everyone that actually owns one in this thread disagrees

Just get a Samsung phone. It's the androids most feature packed oem.

The other phones have a compromise or two. Whereas the biggest compromise for Samsung for me is touch wiz.

Android gets a bad rap because I gave him an option that isn't even available for the iPhone? What?

I have owned 3 Samsung phones ( S3, S5, S6) and they are great all around phones. I understand what people mean when they say Samsung phones go to crap after a few years. What they actually mean is after a couple OS upgrades the phone will usually bog down from the system files. Backing up and performing a system reset fixes this and gets the phone back in tip top shape. This can happen with Iphones as well, it just seems to happen to fewer people.

As far as new phones, I just got myself a nice Galaxy Note 8 and it is an amazing piece of engineering. It has a fast modern octa core processor, 6 gigs of ram, and 64 gigs of storage. The screen is HDR approved. Only problem some might not like is the phone is pretty large at 6.3 inches. The Galaxy S8 is mostly the same as the note and in a smaller package.

Fair enough, believe what you want. Still been a great experience for me, and hopefully the Note 8 works for me as well as its been for you so far.

Been enjoying my S8 and can see myself sticking with this line of phones for the long haul. I'll probably go with a + or even a Note next time around, as nice as the S8's form factor is.

I got a Note 8 a week ago and I love it.

It's the first phone I've had since my iPhone 4S that isn't a Pixel or Nexus.

Samsung finally made a phone that suits my needs (back button on the left since they're swappable, and the UI doesn't suck).

You are looking for new phone, because BATTERY on the old one isn't that good any more?
But why not buy a new battery instead?

I went from the S7 Edge to the Note 8, really loving the bigger phone so far.

Great camera in normal lighting and low lighting. The portrait mode is gimmicky but in good enough lighting, it does make for nice fake bokeh shots.

I'm not a fan of the finger print scanner placement in the back either. It does have biometric and iris scanner to unlock. So far the biometric works well unless it's super dark. It's an expensive phone but it runs really fast and I have had no issues so far.

I got an S8+ but I think the S8 would have been better.

Plus is just too tall. I really think the iPhone X probably has the perfect profile but obviously not what you're looking for.

I have heard good things about the Google Pixel 2, mainly its lack of bloatware and ease of os upgrading. I would get Moto G5 plus since I don't care much about having a high end phone.
