don't really think you can screw anything if you stick to the instructions provided with the HBC "package". It's really easy.

Okay. BUT... I have accidentally updated it some time ago. Might that give a problem? (The wii that is)

Isn't there a way to play GC games witout the memory card..? I searched but didn't find anything about it...
Are you talking about imported GC games? I think they should still run even without a memory card. I don't know why you would want to play Paper Mario TYD without a memory card :p

I wan't to know if there is a way to progress without the need of buying a memory card, it is my only only GC game(for now), I couldn't find any place that sells the MC here and i don't want to bother getting one if there is a way to save my progress without the need of one.

There's no way to save your progress without a GC Memory card.

There's an app in the Homebrew Browser that's called something like "Gamecube Save" I think.
Don't know what it's about.

Might just be an extractor/installer.

Oh hell no. No way I'm updating until that is fixed. The only reason I even play Animal Crossing anymore is to toy around with various hacks. Without that, I wouldn't touch the game again.

It doesn't say that the Ocarina cheats (which is probably what you refer to as "various hacks") are blocked does it ?

Actually I should look into them, If there are "all characters unlocked" and "all stages unlocked" cheats, it's enough for me to play Brawl. At least while waiting for a way to reinstall my save.

Can't get most of my homebrew to work anymore. Where are we at with newer exploits?

edit: actually that doesn't seem to be my problem. I didn't realise elf was no longer supported...

Ok guys I have the HBC installed and my Wii is updated to 4.0U

I have Paper Mario TTYD (GC), a GC controller but no GC memory card, can the Homebrew channel help me here? (I haven't tried it myself but they say you can't play GC games without a GC memory card).

When playing in a GC game, the machine turns into a GC. There's nothing that HBC can do... simply go out and buy yourself a GC memcard.

GODDAMNIT GUYS
just read the earlier posts, I CANT PLAY BRAWL ANYMORE cuz i didnt load the save before installing fw 4.0

fuck you wii save management, i cant play some other games too, i forget which i backed up

I believe he copied his Brawl save file onto an SD by using the Save Extractor and deleted the file itself off his Wii. He updated his Wii and can't use Save Installer to put the save file back on the Wii. Save extractor and installer died with the 3.3 Oct. 23rd Update.

Is there any way to update to 4.0 and keep Smash Bros saves?

yes, load the save back before updating

i was on 3.2, damn, i am raging hard, i updated thinking i could free up space so i can put ssbb back on there so i can play again

anyways, there's an updated for mplayer ce, it says you need to use a cios for usb 2.0
upon further investigation, there's a usb loader now, it was leaked, and the guy that made it said he wont be updating it anymore because the leak (sound familiar eh)

back to mplayer ce, it supports 16:9 now, a huge leap in my opinion, the reason i downloaded it
i did a few tests with it, the picture quality does look slightly worse then playing it on comp
h264 works to my surprise, not enough horsepower to play it, so there's framerate drops all over the place
subtitle support is good, renders srts good (but not the way it's meant to be rendered)

oh, here's the rant about from the legit devs on the usb loader, interesting read

I was on 3.2 before, had HBC, but then my Wii broke. I'll be sending it to Nintendo in May to get it fixed.

How likely is it that they'll upgrade the firmware themselves?

Anony said:

What ? I could have sworn the update that blocked Freeloader also erased any US saves...

Or did it only erase the Twilight Hack ?

Hm ?

Why would you back up your saves if the update doesn't affect them ?

Hmm, crazy stuff going on between the homebrew guys and the 'warez' guys (note, i see them as two distinct entities...one using the other for self-gain..I think you can figure out who is who!)

Anyway, regardless of all this, I do believe the 'problem' will still go on.

I won't be updating until I get a "starfall" like app working on the upgrade. So, I shall stick with 3.2U =P (If there is a way to keep me at 3.2, let me know!)

Can someone please help me decide what to do re: updating to 4.0, using waninkoko's firmware updater 4.0 or doing none of the above?

My Wii is 3.3U right now and I have HBC, GeckoOS, MPlayer and a few emulators installed.

Whatever I do, I would like the things mentioned above to continue working even after I update.

So, what should I do? Thanks for any help :)

All 3 of those (and most of the emulators) will continue to work regardless of how you update to 4.0

Thanks. One more question, though: Will I still be able to update any of those things (HBC, Mplayer and emus, especially) if I do the official update? Or am I stuck with the versions I currently have?

As long as you do not move the HBC to your SD card (it MUST remain on the Wii Menu) you can update items just fine through the Homebrew Browser

In fact I just updated the Homebrew Browser two days after applying the official 4.0 update and it worked fine

update on usb loader, yes i know this is not a good place to talk about it, but you can dump games on usb drives now

this is work great for the wii emulator because there have no way of launching wii games from my dvd drive on my computer

dont care what people say, i wanna play brawl and okami and 1080p
and now that my brawl save doesnt work, there's probably a better chance getting my save file on the emulator anyways

Well, I said I'd hold off on updating from 3.3U to 4.0 until at least the weekend was over.
I'm itching to check out the Shop Channel and whatnot... Update?

Really not happy with the idea of being unable to restore the HBC in case anything fucks up...

Well Marcan and bushing did say they have plenty of other exploits that still work, but haven't been released yet. I'm pretty sure they will end up releasing one later on that will allow 4.0 users to install HBC. If you're really worried I'd just hold off the update for a while longer.

This is where I'm coming from, too. I really want to be able to buy and download some of the Virtual Console Arcade titles :(

I'm kind of surprised there isn't a work-around just for the shop, like there was last time...

Don't think a workaround just for the shop will suffice this time around. Some of the new shop functionality ties directly into the new firmware functionality (such as downloading directly to SD).

Yeah, I know that they have more exploits "banked" so to speak. I'm just being paranoid. And... hold off? Didn't Super Punch Out just hit the VC? *cry cry*

I'm also in the same boat, can't even connect to the shop to download some of the games I deleted for space. Would love to have Punch-Out as well, but I won't even think about updating with Excitebots only 3 weeks away and no PAL date in sight

Hmm, I updated my HBC prior to updating to 4.0 (I was on 3.3U) and everything was working fine.

Went on the shop channel last night (after hearing from my friends that they couldn't get it to load) and it worked fine as well, actually I bought Dracula's Curse with some leftover Wii points I forgot about.

Why would that be taboo? We freely discuss HDloader on this forum, this is the same thing, and just as HDloader was awesome, as is this. Waninkoko delivers!

marcan basically said if you have HBC and DVDx installed and you want to use the SD card thing to go ahead. I did it. It's glorious, I have 1223 blocks free on the wii and 57 989 on my 8GB SDHC card. :D

While I'm not about to ban discussion about Waninkoko here, the things he's done has been rather unsavoury, especially of late. marcan talks a bit about it here.

Not likely if you don't ask them to keep your savestates and VC/WiiWare games.

Made by waninkoko, this app rips the games to the USB drive and allows you to play them directly for the drive.

It uses the WBFS format, you can't download ISOs and dump them on the drive. But other method for piracy is obvious.

Best part about Waninkoko apps: They're explicitly for-profit. Gotta love in-app advertising.

I'm normally the first to flip at some moron saying "homebrew is piracy", but in the case of the Wii scene, it really has fragmented into two groups. Twiizers are interested in hacking the Wii to enable legit homebrew. Waninkoko is interested in piracy. There's no two bones about that.

Obviously there's a legit reason to download this app--to play your own backups. But unlike most cases where I really believe piracy is an unfortunate spinoff of homebrew, this is a case of an app made by a pirate for pirates. Hopefully anyone using it here is not a pirate.

Or the Dreamca...shit.

dreamcast had a 5 tie ratio at the end of its lifespan. not good by any means, but hardly a wasteland of piracy.
