Speaking of which...

If LiD: Inferno is still kicking around with those numbers, I expect Marathon will be with us for a long, long time.

These are the weekend posts I live for.

Theres many games that I dont think are good, but they score well or sell millions. Sometimes I'll know/think the actual gameplay sucks, and others times its just not for me or doenst gel with me. I hate Mario Galaxy but its great. Hades and most rogue likes arent for me.

The actual core gunplay, combat, strategies and gameplay is great in Marathon imo. So do you dislike the gunplay, combat, or the genre of extraction shooter aspect of it?
You say its ugly and weird, and thats fine. Thats a reason enough. I enjoy the lore, and look. It reminds me of the weird old PS1 ads, mixed with Black Mirror, Squid games and Mirrors Edge. Theres not another FPS that looks like it or has the atmosphere. Not the biggest fan of the character designs, but that doesnt bother me much.

And you say, its non stop sweaty, yes for sure, so Im guessing its the PVP extraction shooter part of it. And understable thats not for most people. Theres was times in RE9 with the stalker characters that I told myself, i hate this shit…. I kinda hated marathons sweaty moments at start too. But the good extracts and finishing missions gave that satifaction when you finally did it or went on a roll.

Only the last week, I feel more confident in the map, instead of sprinting into fights or running away, I can scope it for a second and see if its worth it. But still, just when you get overconfident, you get reminded you're never safe. After I hear the exfils and think, ah theres 5 mins on the map alone, and I get a bunch of stuff and extract, sometimes theres still a motherfucker that was close by.

Im not the biggest fan of challenging games or even PVP. I enjoy Fromsoft, Returnal, and can play COD pvp etc. Out of my 1000 hours of Destiny, PVP was probably 10-20% of that. But for some reason, despite me being pissed off and frustrated at times in Marathon, I prefer the PVP overall to Destiny or Cod. I can be a sneak, strategise, run away and come back lol.. And with a crew, revives and comebacks, different tactics make for some great memorable moments.

Imo, if they launched this along with a Marathon remake, announced D3 before the release and added some training mode, and PVE with PVP zones as options to the core game, there would be alot less hate, and people complaining about the extraction part. Its just people are unhappy they didnt get what they wanted. But imo, its still a top extraction game and great FPS. Im glad they made it and Im gonna play it. Right now I just want an easier Cryo, or less PVP in it, because its insanely hard for me lol

Anyway, Im off to finish some work and then guilt free be able to play for a few hours

Yea it's definitely subjective, like I said I'm the same I love from games and platinumed a handful but finished them all, love pvp in so many formats been to the lighthouse many many times in destiny for trials, solod my Lunas howl and not forgotten etc.. I like sweaty but I don't seek it out meaning if it's there in a game I love I'll handle it but I don't seek out 24/7... I don't fun from difficult stuff but I don't need it to enjoy myself.

So for me I hate the look of marathon and I hate extraction, two things that are a total kill for me ultimately. I absolutely love bungies gun mechanics and i will give them that, but it's not enough to carry me anymore it's why I quit destiny it all got stale and their lack of pvp updates, maps etc was so bad I had to finally roll out.

I tried arc and if I were to play extraction it'd be that but even then I come to realize I hate extraction, I just don't like the loop for it one bit so it'll forever be something I don't seek. But it's bungie so I was automatically interested, if this was another dev team I wouldn't even give it any attention at all.

The only thing that could motivste me is adding modes like TDM or domination etc give me a place to take my gear without the constant idea of losing it. I just personally hate the concept of extraction it really boils down to that, bad gameplay loop imo

Edit : and to note I gave bungie about 7 to 8k hours since 2014, was dedicated beyond words.. So it's why I'm a bit bitter with bungie basically letting destiny 2 die for this game.

The current state of the game does not have to be the final state of the game. Live Service is about building before release AND after release.
Obviously not and it wont be, Its a live service game. Changes will come, probably around season 3.

To answer you earlier question, they need to sort out the onboarding, the UI icons (functionality is fine) the performance on PC and impliment some form of hidden MMR or loose gear requirements/limits on the maps.

The core game is super solid.

I don't play multiplayer games so for me it's easily fixed with a single player campaign. Change the design too. Concord could've been saved too that way.

That's not a fix that's a different game.

Bit like me saying I'd fix crimson desert by making it a battle royale.

No bunny hill pve. There needs to be a fully featured, start to finish PvE mode with full access to progression and gear.

I'm not playing a game like this with sweaty pvp players. Doing a raid where I can be ganked by a no life pro sounds like hell to me.

When Halo released, people were game planning how to save Halo

Or sometimes a game sucks, you fail, and your company folds. It could have a chance if they redid all graphics in an anime style—prove me wrong.

Eggs-act-lee.

I'm with Fess. I like Bungie games. I've played all of them since Halo: CE, but nothing about Marathon speaks to me. :messenger_confused:
Then its not for you then is it?

I've also played all the Bungie games. PVP is in their DNA, it speaks to me.

Said it earlier, the problem is the budget (if true). Think this started out as a smaller side project, then because something bigger. Blame the management and Sony. The Devs did a great job.

Few of us said in the test thread last year this was super niche and would settle around 20-30k CCU doesn't look like that was two far off.

Okay but that's still how it is. If they had something for single player gamers then more people would play it, targeting just one type of gamer is always risky.
