Game Boy Micro <3 Thread

When to my moms crib to pick up some old records of mine, and on one of the crates I found a SD card(MP3/MP4 player)reader officially licence by Nintendo. I was looking for this for a while. Anyway, I'm not using it anymore(obviously)so if anyone in Gaf wants the little suker PM me for details. I remember it was only a 2gig limit on the thing, and it had a little dude running up the stairs when the track changes. I forgot the name of the device. I'll take a pic later on the day.

Man, you guys and your pretty pictures are going to make me buy one, aren't you. There are a few Gamestops that have them in stock for $30 used, so I'll probably pick one up this week. It'll be a nice complement to my DSi. There's a trade-in special for an extra 50% on trade-ins, so I'll probably do that...

A bit of a longshot, but I am looking to buy one of these little guys if anyone is selling.

Went to GameStop last night, the only one in a 50 mile radius that had one, only to find out that the one they had didn't have a charger or a battery cover :(

So, if anyone is selling, PM me :D

I didn't realize the prices were going up. Maybe I should buy another one before the prices get too high.

I currently have a US Famicom version, and a UK pink one. They are both so neat.

I need to get my hands on a green one.

It's called a Play-Yan. I remember I wanted one a while back but looking at it now I personally don't think it's worth it.

Mine finally came in from Japan! :D

I got mine on Ebay, from Japan. $100, but he covered shipping.

Very nice. Is it brand new? Or just in really nice shape? I may have to use the 'bay to get one of these, and I really want that special edition.

Ah, glad this thread was bumped. Reminds me I need to come in and thank y'all. Was checking this thread out many, many months ago and it inspired me to pick up my own (Famicom one). This was before my account was approved so I couldn't come in and say it when it came in but damn if this ain't one sexy, sexy bitch.

It all depends on : 1. If you can find one for cheaper? and 2. Do you really want one?

I'm paying $69.99 for a new US Famicon Micro.

For that price, I'd find it hard to open and use. New sealed Famicon Micros go for 120-150 on eBay. I'm buying a sealed one, too, but how can I justify opening it? Ah!

It is in good used condition. It even came with all the original plastic bags and papers.

very cool Ico avatar illustration

Any chance of them having any other new units in stock?

Ok, I just scored a Famicom edition SEALED for $75... Do I open it and enjoy it? Keep it sealed as a collectors item (they sell for twice that on eBay already)? Ah!

Are you in Tokyo or Osaka? I am in Sendai and we never get this kind of prices T_T ... We don't even have a sofmap here! Man, I can't wait to graduate and move to a bigger city!!!!

yeah i'm in osaka, though all sofmap shops here tend to have the same deals running concurrently so i'd imagine there was at least some degree of nationwide cooperation...when i went to tokyo everything was the same price, anyway. maybe you're paying a tohoku tax!

I don't even understand the appeal to this (besides it being cheap)?
Why not just use a DS Lite?

For me it's reducing the resolution down to such a small size. Even the classic NES titles look like the level of detail is incredibly small.

There are a few Gamestops in the country that has the other models (black=$49.99, Silver=$39.99) but you'll have to ask someone who works at Gamestop which location has it and if they can ship it to your local store.

I have a DS Lite but I love the novelty of the GB Micro. The DS is portable but not as pocket friendly as the Micro. It's so small and discreet and I like using it as a GBA only device. Also, it really is a pick up and go system. If I wanted to get a quick game of Super Mario Bros 3 while waiting around somewhere, I can quietly pull out my the Micro and and no one would really notice.

I'd love to get one of these things for FF6, but the Gamestop closest to me has no AC adapters for the ones they have in stock. Apparently, someone accidentally sold a DS with those chargers since they look a bit similar. I hope they can get some, or else I'll just try Ebay. Although, I'd much rather just get it there since I can hold and see it before I buy.

I'm expecting a Pokemon Micro 1 of these days. I've been looking for it for a while and it obviously wasn't easy. Ended up coming across 1 on a website for €110. Unfortunately after I paid for it (yes, stupid me should have done it BEFORE paying), googling for reviews of the website made it look untrustworthy. I did receive proper notification mails about the order being processed and then it being sent out. But still, I'm rather sceptic about this after reading some of the experiences with the site. I envision these outcomes:

a) I get nothing/a brick in a box
b) I get a normal micro
c) I get a pokemon micro that has been digested by a dog
d) I get the pokemon micro as described and it's happy times :D

The only positive element is the fact that the item was indicated "sold out" after I bought it. Update incoming...

I'm sitting here in Germany, so obviously the chance of getting a Famicom Micro at all is quite thin.

The GBA library is amazing.
Gameboy Micro is an amazing piece of art with the best d-pad and a very nice screen.
I can put a micro in my jeans and go to work. Nobody will ever see I've got it in my pocket.
Try doing that with a DS Lite.

What's not to like? It's the best handheld.... probably ever... <3

Wow. These things were on closeout for like $30 just a couple years ago.

I love the Micro but I still think the SP (AGS 101 version) is the best way to play GBA games.

I started playing Zelda II last night on this. I have been playing that game since it came out, but have never actually beaten it all the way through.

I plan to beat it on my micro <3

So what are the mist have games for someone getting their first GBA (Micro of course!)?

Advance Wars, Golden Sun, Warioware, Mario Golf/Tennis, Metroid Fusion/Zero Mission, an import of Rhythm Tengoku, and an import of Mother 3 + a flash cart to play the translation. That will be a start. :D

there's lots more, of course

I have played that game on my Micro up until the final dungeon a few weeks ago :lol

So I just bought an extra famicom micro from japan and it came with the bundled charger
model name- OXY-002 (JPN/USA). Am I right in assuming that the Japanese micros had universal ac adapters bundled with the system?

Also the training games in mario tennis are hard!

My sealed Famicom Micro is coming Friday! Help convince me to open it please. The collector in me feels guilty and ripping it open, but I intend to keep it mint after opening.

I can see the conundrum. If you bothered to shell out the extra for an unopened one then it does seem kind of a waste of money to just turn around and make it used in a couple of seconds.

Maybe keep that one sealed and buy a less expensive used regular black/silver one to actually play?

In any case, the micro's too amazing to never experience.

Man, I know the last time I tried this thing it was an uncomfortable mess and actually hurt to play, but damn if the thing isn't so friggin sexy it's tempting me to track one down again.

That's exactly the problem. I planned on getting a used one and found a sealed one for the same price.

I love my Japanese Famicom Micro. The box (Pictured above) is awesome and the device is so nice. I've been using it to play through Minish Cap recently. It's so small I can take it to work in my pocket along with my iPod touch and phone. (I hate having three fucking devices, but at least they're small.)

I just wish they could play old Game Boy games too. Just so I could play some Link's Awakening on its nice bright screen.
