Game Boy Micro <3 Thread

The SP's front light in a poorly lit room is great, and the screen is a nice size.

There's a back-lit version as well. Anyone here with both a Micro, back lit SP, and DS Lite able to compare the screens? I'd love to know the difference in quality.

Use a paperclip to open and pop the faceplate off. Just straighten it and stick it into the holes. It's that easy. There's no need for a tool.

In my experience?

DSi > Micro > DS Lite > GBASP+ > DS = GBA SP

Damn, that's like the motherlode of GBA awesomeness, those were probably the ones I played most on mine. Off the top of my head other ones I played a bunch were Pokemon Pinball, Puzzle League (or whatever it was called), Puzzle Fighter, and Drill Dozer which was especially awesome on the Micro. Wario Wares were awesome too of course. I need to get my Micros back out.

Fixed. I have both the DS Fat and the SP and the difference is like day and light.
Yeah the DS had a transflective screen, with the backlight on the colors were much better vs the kind of bluish tint of the SP front lighting.

the DS was just bought for $50 for a trip to NY
the micro was 26 shipped on eBay (the thing was...the auction was for a black one with two games...this came in the mail instead!!!!!!!!!)
deal of the year so far for me!!!

That's a hell of a deal. Seriously. Unfortunately, very few people will ever be so lucky. So, on their behalf, I'm reposting this from the buy/sell/trade thread:

2 Game Boy Micros

20th Anniversary Edition (Famicom)

The faceplate is a little worse for wear, as the previous owner did... something to give it a fair few little divots on the front, but with the exception of a couple dents on the back, the rest of the system is in exceptional condition.

$70 shipped.

Silver Micro with Blue Swirl faceplate

Phenomenal condition all the way around. Minimal scratching, works perfectly.

$50 shipped.

One note: As of today, March 6, I only have one AC adapter in my possession. I should be receiving a second in the mail early next week, but until then, I can only sell one system. If you're interested in either, though, let me know, and I can hold it for you until I get the second charger.

Guru Logic Champ.

One of the best puzzle games created.

Think I payed around 80 Euro a few years back.

There is a related game on DSI Ware - Kaiten Illust Puzzle: Guru Guru Logic.

I agree 100%!

I managed to find a CIB copy for about $20 here in Japan after months of searching and I was completely addicted. I'm near the very end of the game but I got stuck on one puzzle and finally moved on.

If I encounter any more cheap copies, maybe I'll pick em up to sell later... :)

Can you do that with anything? Like can I ask that they get a copy of PSO 1&2 for the Gamecube from the stores 300 miles away that have them?

I think it depends on the manager's willingness to look for something for you. Since she's a friend, she's willing to call 5 or 6 stores to get my a hard to find item, but I don't know if they are required to.

Are the Game Boy Micro's that weren't released in the US region locked? I want to get one of the awesome colors that I keep running into on ebay.

From what I've heard, no Micros are region locked. Also, there are some super cheap nice colors on sale on ebay from the UK. Might have to bite.

I found a Micro for only 3100円 (about $30) today! :D

I was hoping to pick up a Famicom Version or one of the Japan-only LE's too but I didn't see ANY today. I DID see the "Player II" faceplate though....for about $70!

I realized that pics make them look better. There's more subtle scratches on my faceplate that you can't see here. Got that other faceplate coming in though...

I have both Famicom and Mother 3 limited edition versions of the Micro. £30 and £150ish respectively. Both fully boxed and near perfect condition :)

Really want a backlit SP (AGS 101) though...

Would you ship to Germany?

US or Japanese Famicom edition?

You mean micros are not region locked.

And your right, there are a bunch of nice ones at great prices on ebay from the UK. That's where I purchased one recently for about $40.

The Famicom anniversary Micro is pretty slick. Wasn't that expensive when I bought it new either. The Mother 3 one is probably the best, out of my price range though.

There was a tool? I thought they said just pry it off even in the official documents.

Though looking now, I guess there was one. Looks like you can use a paper clip too. I can send you one of those if you need it.

http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/micro/faceplate.jsp

Yup, was aware of the paper clip method. I'm just a completist, is all. I don't even have a second faceplate to change into :lol

But if you'd like to send me a red paper clip, I'd be happy to trade you a slightly larger paper clip.

Just ordered the camo faceplate from Nintendo. The lady was hilarious though, she kept trying to get me to order the ladybug one. At the end she's like, "I may just throw it in for free."

I love Nintendo.

Even though I own two micros (one famicon, one silver) I was looking it up on gamestop to see if any near by locations have one. Since I checked last week three new locations now have one that are near by. If anyone who lives in MD there is one in Annapolis, Severna Park and Bowie.

lol cute

Still haven't found a good one.
I really want a famicom one but those are selling for more than I'm willing to spend on what's basically a novelty item for me (already own a psp and a ds lite).

I just placed a bid of €30 on a silver micro, no scratches and complete with box.

Had the idea of posting my GBA collection (with my micro of course)

That's a damn fine collection you have there man. Damn fine

What were the specific area colors anyway? I remember green being available for Europe and knowing it wasn't available in US.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bhg3Aw5bUzI

So I made a rare set by trading my green faceplate with an US only camouflage faceplate. Note that the video is kind of old so the quality sucks.

I also have a blue micro, which also wasn't available in the US right? What did Japan have?

I listed both of my Micros in the buy/sell/trade thread. Black with both silver and black faceplates, and a silver with both black and silver faceplates. All faceplates are official Nintendo and come with the faceplate tool. Everything Like-new in retail box with zero scratches.

No Advance Wars = Fail =p

When I get my new micro, I should do the same though and post a photo of it with my shiny collection =D

I have Advance Wars 2 and Wario Twisted both sitting my drawer here for over a year and a half now. I have never played them.

I don't know what's wrong with me...

I've never been able to find a copy of Advance Wars. I've got the second game, but I've never found the first and I refuse to buy online.
Well... there's your problem. It's pretty readily available on ebay/amazon, even complete if you want it like that.

Yeah, but counterfeit cartridges are also quite popular online, or so I've been told.

If you buy from a legitimate retailer and not some marketplace you'll get a real game. Even then with some care you'll still be able to buy from ebay and then just paypal chargeback if they sell you a fake.

I know this is probably a dumb question but is it possible to mod a Micro to play original GB/GBC games?

Nope. You can always buy a gameboy pocket/color though if you really want the fix. They can be had for $5.00 or less at most used game/second hand stores.

There are also other unofficial methods available to play original gameboy games on the micro. (Same for the DS)

I just currently use my DS for GBA games and a SP for the older ones.

Edit: bah, keep double posting, so tired, think I should sleep, meant to just edit the first post

No but you can buy converters online that let you play old GB/GBC games. You just gotta look for them.
