Game Boy Micro <3 Thread

i already wrote some pages back but there are unsold brand new game boy micros in one of the big electronics retailers here in Bulgaria for 68$. i dunno how much a shipment to us or wherever cost if anybody wants a want I'll help him get one.

What colors do they come in?

I went ahead and bought a red skin off amazon to use on my new ladybug plate. It didn't come out looking all half bad. Worth it for a pristine screen though!

If they have any colours other than the Silver one, I'm very interested :)

Speaking of Pokemon, look what I found! :D

Pokemon Center Limited Edition Game Boy Micro - The rarest GBM there is! I found this one last Sunday while attending the Nippombashi Street Festival in Osaka's Den Den Town.
It's in PERFECT condition, however the box and carrying pouch REEK of smoke. (The system itself has no odor, luckily!)
Now I understand why people make a big deal about things coming from a "smoke-free home" on eBay. Damned smokers!!!

Regardless, it was an absolute steal at only $80. :D

Looks like the Gaf has single-handedly caused the price to raise by $5 on these at Gamestop.

Lol, it's the same for the GBA and SP but that's the first thing I thought of when I saw the price increase. :lol

Gameboy Micro is probably one of the greatest handhelds ever made, 2nd goes to the PSPGO. You heard right.

I agree, just wish it was an affordable handheld.

Got a question for you gameboy advance experts. Is there a certain SKU of gameboy advance SP I should look to purchase? Possible one that has a superior screen ect.

I don't know about SKU numbers but look for the "brighter screen" versions.

It's a sweet backlit version as opposed to the yucky original frontlit version.

I don't know about SKU, but there are other ways to tell.

SP2/SP+ has a much brighter backlit screen that's a step below DS Lite's screens. The original SP is front lit, and abysmal quality in comparison.

Looking at the units, the SP+ has a much darker screen when powered off compared to the lighter grey of the regular SP's screen. The box will also mention the brighter backlit screen.

Also the model number on the unit is AGS-101 where the older ones are AGS-001.

Awesome, thanks for all the help.

I love the shape of the Gameboy SP. I have a gameboy micro which is nice but it's too small for me, I prefer something to grip around. The micro's screen and design is stunning though, probably my favorite.

I finally got Another World working on my micro. Took a few nights of frustration, but it was worth it! It looks really good, and feels very fluid compared to what I remember.

Reading this and posting about Micros elsewhere got me to pull everything out for a pic:

The backlit sp is the absolute best way to play GB and GBC games, hands down.
For GB I'd say emulation on the GB Micro is pretty good too (while GBC was too flaky last I tried it). All the GB stuff I had worked fine.

Dunno why but I always see the SP as an odd shape, It's like a baby DS but at the same time I just can't get use to the way it looks.
Think of it more as a folding version of the original Game Boy:

The Micro is actually wider than the SP, I think that might be why I find the Micro more comfortable than the SP.

Or maybe it's because the Micro's face buttons are the best on a handheld ;)

What's the best flash card to get for a Micro? I really want to play Mother 3 on it, and think it's time to make the move.

For Another World, I got the EZ Flash IV cartridge, and a 2gb mini sd card.

edit:/\ /\ /\ I also got mine from realhotstuff, and had no problems with it.

Well yeah. We Micro owners already know of the greatness and take that for granted.

Actually I'd say there some of the best period, on any controller.

So on ebay, it seems you can get the Famicom edition for $100.
Speaking of eBay I looked up the Pokemon one that the guy above got for $80. The low Buy It Now price was like $280, up to one optimistic seller for $700 or 800.

How/Where did you get those GBA games with that slim boxing? (Referring to FFVI and AW.)

1) Order replacement/empty DS cases (which include GBA slots) from Nintendo.
2) Print out high quality covers.
3) Shift games/manuals to new hard cases.

Those are ones I was missing packaging for, but had manuals for. I used DS cases I bought from Nintendo, and printed out the art myself from the below website.

edit: Mejilan beat me to it, but yeah =)

Urge to buy... rising...

Can you get new faceplates for them still? If I got one used, I'd want to get a new faceplate for a scratch free screen.

I haven't played mine (well either of them) for like a few years I think. Turned both on, batteries still worked. Why the hell can't anything else hold a charge like Nintendo stuff.

I'm back on to Guru Logic Champ...and stuck on the same puzzle I got stuck on three or four years ago. Did some other stuff and unlocked a new section of puzzles so I have a while to go.

Finally joined the club today. :D

€27,50 shipping included (that's around €6 on their part).
Didn't come with an adapter or the box.
Immediately ordered a separate adapter from ebay which came in today as well.

While it may not have come with an adapter or box, it did come with this:

The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past / Four Swords
Final Fantasy V
Mario Golf Advance Tour
Crash & Spyro Supepack
Need for Speed Carbon: Own The City

Sadly the faceplate has some noticeable scratches and I also noticed some minor paint chips on the system itself. What kinda pissed me off is that some of these scratches may have occurred during transport. The guy had simply thrown every item in a bubble bag which is fine, but if you're sending a metal storage case which is padded on the inside you might actually want to put the damn gameboy in the case, you know, instead of letting the metal case scratch up the micro.
Still, all in all not a bad deal.

Anywho.
Is there some place from which I can order genuine Nintendo faceplates?
I don't think NOE ever sold the faceplates separately so I highly doubt they do now.
I really want to get a non-scratched faceplate on this thing.

The US Nintendo part store has them in a couple of colours, but they don't ship internationally. NOE Repair Centre hasn't sold them for a long time, I only managed to get one a few months ago because they pulled one off an old broken Micro they had lying around.

Sadly you probably won't get a blue faceplate since that colour was unique to Europe and it's hard enough finding faceplates in colours that were sold in other countries.

Definitely not counting on finding a new blue faceplate somewhere.
Hoping to find a black one somewhere.

Might just give Nintendo NL a ring tomorrow.
Chances are slim but it couldn't hurt to try.

Worst case scenario, I will try to resell this micro (without Zelda and FF) and I'll buy a brand new one for some extra bucks on ebay.

I take it the third party faceplates are all junk?

Ok, so my parents are going to New York around May, so I think it's the best chance I'll get of having a Micro. Any place where I can find them?

Dunno why, but I keep coming back to this thread and find my temptation rising...

Question: What's the size of the Micro screen relative to playing GBA games on a DS Lite? GBA games only take a part of the DS screen so a direct comparison of the dimensions won't work. Is it bigger or smaller than on the DS Lite?

Smaller than a regular GBA/GBA SP screen by a decent measure, so clearly smaller than the picture displayed by a DS/DSLite running a GBA game.
