Game Dev Story |OT| of energy drinks and booth babes. Now for Android! (iOS/And)

^^^ Yeah... I'll agree with it being too easy.

Today is my first day playing and i've already got like 5+ games in the hall of fame.

I don't even have my own console yet.

Just started Year 11

Playing hot springs story now. Really fun but a bit less straightforward. Looking forward to learning the little details.
Yeah, I got that recently and I hope they make a game that's sort of in the middle complexity wise. Game Dev was too easy, but Hot Springs seems overly complex. I'm sure I'll appreciate the depth eventually, but five minutes in I'm extremely overwhelmed.

Time for another run I guess.

Damn, training to get all the games and selling 100 million copies is killing me.

I feel like bumping this thread, because I just found this game on the Android Market yesterday. I've already played through 22 years while my girlfriend played Ocarina for the first time ever on 3DS. So we both had a great game to experience for the first time.

I love it, but I'm a little sad that I've done basically everything I can do. I already restarted a new file, but in my old one I had no luck finding a "Hardware engineer" to build a console and none of my employees were able to change their job to that. And do newer consoles continue to come out after year 20? The game seems to stagnate a little at that point, which is unfortunate. Still, I loved it and I'm playing it again, hoping to create a console of my own this time.

As for the sequel, there has been news on it since the last update to this thread:

Via Game Informer:
The sequel to Kairosoft’s super fun, super addictive game development sim, Game Dev Story, is reported to include leaderboards and employees that you share with your friends.

However, if players are competing to climb to the top of the leaderboards, we’re not sure why you’d want to share your best workers with your friends. Maybe you can recommend a crappy employee to throw a wrench in your competition? Check out the PC screens below to get a sneak peek.

As of right now the sequel is only on PC, but Kairosoft says it’ll eventually release the game worldwide for iOS. Kairosoft also says older, previously Japanese-only games will be translated as well, such as Dungeon Adventure Story, Astro Expedition, and Seafood! Street Sushi.

Though I didn’t love Hot Springs Story, I poured over a dozen hours into Game Dev Story. The prospect of doing it all over again with some new features is very enticing. Anyone looking to get a Kairosoft fix in the meantime should check out Pocket Academy, a school-developing sim for iOS.

You won't be able to hire a hardware engineer. You need to train one of your people in all the possible skills, getting to the maximum level and then resetting his role with a merchant bought item. Once he has gone through all different roles, he can become a hardware engineer. That's the gist of it anyway, you should read up online for the specifics.

Also, if you liked this game, you should also check out Hot Springs Story and Grand Prix Story. Both are on the Android market, both from the same developer and it's basically the same game with a different setting and some different twists. You might enjoy them.

Not sure whether this is worthy of a bump or not, but Grand Prix Story is out on both Android and now iPhone. Impressions so far: it's good.

Grand Prix Story has been out for months on Android. Pocket Soccer Story just came out on Android as well as Mega Mall Story a little ways back on iPhone.

Are those the same style just a different premise?

Ah, wasn't aware exactly how long, just that it was only a new addition to the iPhone. Worthy of a bump anyway, given that Game Dev was out first for iOS and most people wouldn't be aware of it on Android (I wasn't until only recently).

Pretty much (so far) but along with it seems to come some balance and gameplay tweaks, as well as extra depth with experience points for parts as well as drivers and cars. I will be able to comment on this in a few days in a bit more detail, though.

Yeah, they all obviously play a bit differently, but same style where you're a manager/owner type of guy hiring/researching stuff.

All the post Game Dev Story releases (including Hot Springs Story) are more polished as well, with graphics that fill the screen and user interfaces more touch screen friendly.

Jesus Christ, these games are digital crack. Grand Prix Story was my first Kairosoft game, and I just couldn't put it down. Finished my first play-through in one sitting.

I then bought Game Dev Story, and while I didn't find it quite as engaging as GP Story, I couldn't help but chuckle when I created a company called Gameshaft and sold 700k units of an Action Romance game called Samurai Slam. It won best music. Bow-chicka-bow-wow.

It only made sense to buy Pocket League Story as soon as it was released, and I'm happy to say it's even better than I expected. If Grand Prix/Pocket League are any indication, the series is headed in the right direction. Kairosoft has really nailed this formula--basic enough to be instantly gratifying yet deep enough to hold your attention for hours. While Game Dev Story is great, both GP and PL really outshine it with visual feedback in the form of races/matches. Kairosoft really need to focus on ideas that lend themselves easily to that type of on-screen action. It's certainly more exciting to watch than the gradual elongation of progress bars.

The games are stupidly good. They take a simple premise yet inject them with enough addictive formula to never let you put it down. My only complaint has been my own personal sloth attitude about replaying them after I go through them for the first time. Loved Game Dev Story and Hot Springs Story, but the beauty about it is that all of them have the same style yet are diverse.

Mega Mall Story is incredible and all fans of Sim Tower/Tiny Tower are going to feel right at home with it while possibly feeling obliged to champion a game that has finally got the progression aspects in that genre correct. My partner was hooked when she first started playing it.

Blew through an entire night while playing Grand Prix Story. Holy shit. Always amuses my better half to hear me curse loudly or yelp with elation and all I am doing is watching my two drivers race around a track.

Started off Pocket Academy and it is a little similar in tone to Hot Springs Story, but pushes it in to a more personal scape by dealing directly with students and there are several "scenarios" to clear. I like the fact that I can create a school from the ground up with the intention of being a good academic school, or try to nurture a system that churns out future athletic stars.

I personally cannot wait until Pocket League Story hits the iOS. I am bad enough with Football Manager-esque games, but a Kairosoft football sim with those cute graphics? I better prepare my own coffin.

It actually looks kind of slow and boring.

Hmm, that might feel too long when playing. Grand Prix Story has the right length. About 1min per race.

I will still love it and play it for hours though. I definately prefer Grand Prix and Pocket League type over Hot Springs and Pocket Academy.

Possibly the best length for when one needs to go to the toilet!

Realistically that seems to be the normal length, if not a tad shorter, for most football sim games. Pretty sure even with highlights only shown on Football Manager a game usually lasts around 5 minutes.

I even think that the races in GPS get to long on the fastest speed. I'd love to just simulate many of them to get the money and tech points. Almost 3 minutes would feel like way to long if there is any grinding required in the game.

Yeah I must say that there has been at least more than one time where I have wanted to simulate a race on GP Story simply because I need the cash or sponsorship increase and I know I am going to blow the field away

To be honest, I didn't even realise the games were lasting that long - it goes by really quickly and any faster and your tactical decisions wouldn't matter one bit. You can change formation at half-time, but during the match you can choose to set the team to balanced play, passing or long ball. Also, when your players perform well and get the support of the crowd, their aura bar fills up, and pressing their name when they have the ball and full aura will super charge your player for a minute or so - knowing when to and when not to use the aura is the difference between winning and losing a lot of the time.

As for the rest of the game, well I'm freaking addicted. I just made it to the national league and am trying to sign some superstar players and upgrade all the training facilities before I go any further. I had built on all the open plots of land around the training pitch, but you eventually get the option to extend the training grounds which gets you double the number of plots to build new facilities. You can also upgrade already built facilities to improve their efficiency. During training you can either specify for your players to use the facilities only (which gets you research), to train as a team (which gets them EXP) or to do whatever they see fit.

Also, through playing you amass happiness, strength, tactical and research points - research lets you attract new sponsors and get more money per-game, while happiness allows you to instigate fan activities, which raise your support and fame but also are the key to unlocking stuff, as new players, coaches, training routines, etc are unlocked when you increase an activities level. Strength points are used to perform training routines that will mainly improve your players body stat (which is pretty important in the grand scheme of things), while tactical points are used to perform routines that work on skill and speed.

More on Pocket League: I made it to the World League in my first play-through at year 7. I've got one superstar player with all but his GK stats at 800+, while the rest of my team are avg/exceptional players with 400/500+ stats. I was slaughtering the National League (every win was a shutout, the largest being 11-0), but the World League waxed my ass on the first attempt. I think I'll need at least 3 superstar players with high stats to be competitive, as EVERYONE on the World League teams seems to be a superstar player. I only managed to score a handful of times in those games. Sobering. I definitely focused too much on offense, as the World League teams are making my once-strong defense look like a bunch of rookies.

OMG POCKET LEAGUE STORY SO ADDICTING

Just finished my first 7 year game. Beat the World Cup (which comes up after the World League) and got one match into the next league before I hit the deadline. Really fun game so far. Used the 3-3-4 offensive formation until I unlocked the 4-1-5 at the end of year two, then I used that for the rest of the game.

Can't wait to start a new game + now that I know what's going on.

I've played Game Dev Story, Grand Prix Story and Mega Mall Story.

For me MMS and GDS were very fun. GPS wasn't bad or anything, but I felt confused for much of my (only) playthrough. I had tons of money but by the time the game ended I hadn't won anything above a 3 star race, only won 2 Grand Prix and despite unlocking the supercar I apparently didn't have a good enough staff to build it properly (tech points were about 250 for my best team).

This game gets seriously easy. Managed to get 100k or whatever it takes to develop console with the best specs in Y12 or 13. Took like a year and lost a bunch of fans, but after that, your console is seriously overpowered, with a base of 18M and it just keeps growing. After that it gets super easy to sell games. My first game there sold around 10M while my highest on the PS was 4M. Money comes pouring in and it's quick upgrades. Sold like 30 games afterwards that sold 20-45M each. Finished with highest game of Tiger Woods 2 at 48M+

Funny, because the platform only has 19M+, so I don't know why people buying more than 1 copy of TW2

I bought the game because of the Android sale and after completing this one, subsequently bought World Cruise Story and Venture Town. I have never been more addicted to a developer

Grand Prix Story is pretty cool as well, and has much more stuff to do. I kinda wish there was a similar game on PC (or somewhere) with some added depth, but it's pretty enjoyable the first couple of times around.

Grand Prix Story and World Cruise Story both have this weird problem where there's periods of time that you're just sitting there waiting for the cash to roll in or for the race to finish or the ship to get to the next port before you can really do anything. I wish they'd integrate fast-forward or simulations for non-interactive parts of the game, especially with Grand Prix Story.

I also wish they'd put some shit on the 3DS store because my goddamn phone is exploding trying to play World Cruise Story.

I also also wish that GDS2 would come out already.

I didn't like World Cruise or Hot Springs, but I've loved all the others that have come out on Android. Definitely at their weakest in the games where you are managing floor layouts and such as opposed to the more numbers/competition based games (Game Dev, Pocket League, Grand Prix).

Buying Epic Astro Story now.

Am I the only one who feel all these Kairosoft games are a bit too similar? Almost like reskinned Gamedev story games or something.
I mean I love Gamedev story, but the rest just seem so derative.
If they ran their studio like this in Gamedev story the game they'd surely be out of business by now :p

I felt that way at the beginning but they are really coming into their own capabilities now. Grand Prix Story was way deeper than GDS and I hear Epic Astro Story is even better.

Think of it this way: They're innovating more than Call of Duty :p

They definitely redo the same gameplay concept a few times adding new things. Hot Springs and World Cruise are very similar, but you can see the things they learned from one helping out the other.

Saw this thread pop up and I just have to say that I'm addicted to game dev story now. I bought it for 0.10 on the android sale last week. It's so simple and repetitive, yet I just can't stop playing it haha.

Looking forward to buying more of these games, didn't realize there were so many.

Grand Prix Story is probably my favourite game from them. I use to love GDS alot, but GPS does it better.
