Game developers in their prime

I’m a longtime FE fan, I adored Three Houses and I maybe did a total of two “tea parties”. It’s entirely optional.

Any comment on the rest of the things wrong with the game? Likewise, I’m assuming there’s consequence to skipping nearly half the game in the Monastry, in terms of stats, missed story, and feeling like... half a game?

I don’t necessarily know that this is you, and am not trying to be harsh, but the more Nintendo fans make excuses for this series, the longer it’s going to remain in this utterly stupid direction.

In the Monastery, your goal is to increase the support in order recruit other characters and increase motivation of your current unites for lessons, thats ultimately your goal, how you go about it is up to you. "Tea Party" is one way to increase the support but you don't have to do it and you wont miss out anything if don't, there are other ways to increase a character's support. Your Stats increase with lessons and in battles.

I think that’s Romero during his Ion Storm (ie Daikatana) days. Not exactly his prime, lol.

Speaking of Ion Storm, now Warren Spector was definitely in his prime back then making OG Deus Ex.

(He’s the one on the right)
It was just meant to be a joke about being in their prime looks/age wise :p

I wouldn’t even be opposed to romance systems, or a really good love story. Take a look at many other games that have done the same, in a mature fashion. The problem is that these developers view everything through a lens of how much they can pander to the lowest common denominator.
Fire Emblem was a simple series for the most part and IS has never been that much of a competent dev though. (uninspired maps/basic system/mediocre graphics) Over time they've been able to tell longer stories and flesh out their characters more though. So maybe it is just nostalgia talking when you bring up things like....
It’s a lot more than romance. The entire tone of this new era of Fire Emblem games is completely off-putting.

They made a desperate play for sales by going lower/more generic than they ever have (beach party swimwear DLC, breast physics, relationships, anime-style story, characters, designs, and so on). It paid off massively, and the series has been transformed ever since.

Seriously, go back and play Fire Emblem GBA, or watch it, and see how different, and refreshingly free of this bullshit it is.

Lyn is a gigantic walking anime trope. She isn't the only one from Blazing Blade either. The series has had "anime" (japanese animation) artstyle since forever. Same goes for their evil/good dragons plot. Unless you are telling me the political "subplots" in the series were deep or something, I have no idea what you are talking about the eh quality. (past) Again I just find it really odd these things are your main complaints of the series as a whole and not the most glaring issues I mentioned. It really just seems like you hate the fact the newer games have some tiddy thrown in or aspects of dating.

The entirety of Looking Glass's existence and their successors at Ion Storm.
  • Thief trilogy.
  • System Shock 1 and 2
  • Deus Ex.
From superb titles like Mass Effect, Splinter Cell, Bioshock, Dead Space, and the last two Deus Ex games, few developers have been as important as Looking Glass Studios.
So influential that hack developers like Arkane made it their 9 to 5 occupation to being the dollar store version.

There’s a world of difference between Lyn and old FE, and what’s going on with current FE.

That’s one small example. You can make a specious argument, but that isn’t going to make modern FE any less of a garbage-tier pandering attempt, with a slightly solid, but also degraded, strategy game in tow.

But, how am I “making excuses” if I genuinely enjoyed the game? I really did. I’m not blindly playing defence force here. In fact, the only FE game that I haven’t enjoyed (out of the ones I have played) was Fates. I couldn’t get into that one.

It’s a shame you seem to hate the current direction. I prefer the simpler older games, too, but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy the newer games. Three Houses is wonderful.

EDIT: I see, this is about the boobies ^

I could break down Lyn's character with tropes yes. Also while Camilla is the big sister type her actual best support in game isn't the one where you pair her with your SELF INSERT. The strategy is as weak as ever though I wish the games were harder. You just hate boobs. (cis scum) To me the series is as PASSABLE as ever with some tit thrown in. 🖤 Thank GOD the music has gotten better though.

It’s about quite a bit more than that. The series has reduced itself to crass commercialism in a lot more than just sex appeal. There’s zero creative integrity left (or perhaps talent), as everything is just ripped from other popular things.

I love the old-school Nintendo vibe of Fire Emblem GBA. I really enjoy the worn, but well done typical epic story. The characters, if we’re going to really criticize the game, can border on a bit generic, but are awesome all the same.

Compare that to the main character’s whiny little sister doing every anime expression in the book, and wearing a literal barrel. Compare that to story and dialogue that feels like it came out of the bottom-of-the-barrel of modern anime. Compare that to constantly getting bombarded with town builders, bad Persona rip-offs, anything and everything but focusing what on brought FE to the dance.

The series went from having a strong sense of creative identity, with epic stories, great art style, and fantastic gameplay, to being Japanese pop culture trash.

Best way I can put it?

FE feels more classic fantasy, in the book sense.

Modern FE feels like it was ripped kicking and screaming from bad, but popular, Japanese multimedia (including gaming) tropes.

Broseph both games are japanese pop culture trash. The difference is that you only like one kind. Also what is wrong with "anime" faces?

I honestly don't understand the praise (strong sense of creative identity wut) maybe I missed something? Why do you hate boobs or thicc thighs? They are soft and warm. It just seems like you like Lord of the Rings and the death of any sex appeal.
I haven’t played Echoes yet.
It is shit. Shit! My least favorite FE game after Gaiden.

...wait.

Arcadia I HATE BOOBS custom title when?
It kind of looks like Echoes was less retarded, which is probably why @SLoWMoTIoN likes it.

Play the game and then get back to me. You have a cuck, more retarded people than Edelgard and Celica who is literal shit.

Like most people with a pulse, yes. Especially compared to weaboo bait.

and the death of any sex appeal.

Sex appeal is great, if you have any creative intelligence in applying it whatsoever. When you slather it across your game, in the most pandering fashion possible, with a billion other terrible tropes, it’s not so great.

So, most modern movies and games? Well, before the 2010s.

You post examples that the anime hasn’t rotted your brain. : P

Three Houses wasn’t all boobs, thigh highs and innuendo. Ingrid was a stand up girl who didn’t show any skin and she was my favourite. And believe me I tried to find her dirty side. No dice!

This thread is derailed like a motherfucker, lol.

Kojima: Metal Gear Solid 1-3
Yasunori Mitsuda (composer): Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, Chrono Cross
Shigeru Miyamoto: Too many

These are based on the games that have had the most personal and memorable impact on me growing up.
