Game Grumps (aka Egoraptor plays some games)

I’m at work right now so I can’t watch but...

Dan Harmon on GuestGrumps?

So... when are they going to get Justin Roiland “back” on the show?

Or like both of them at once.

I love Dan's rambling as his brain tries to piece together a cohesive thought, no doubt hampered by his alcohol intake during the recording.

Truly a great episode, but this was the first time I heard about the Roiland episode and it dying under mysterious circumstances.
They've talked about it a few times. They claim he's been in a few times and every time the footage gets lost. Once even saying they think he keeps kicking the capture PC to force it to lose the footage so he can keep coming back.

Who knows how true that part is.

I just want to get an episode aired already!

haha, roiland kicking the pc? That'd be funny.

I'm so glad Paper Mario is back. I missed it so. I hope it sticks around for at least 2 or 3 weeks before it's whisked away again. Possibly by Dead Rising 2 again.

So I guess they think that spiked buzzy beetles are ultimate invulnerable Mario enemy. I wish Dan would at least try something. He shifts around the menu so much without actually entering to see his moves. He used hammer throw on the flying cloud dude once before.

At least they finally used Goombella. "Oh wow now there's a health bar?!"

Shame they probably won't use it anymore unless they are really stuck.

I just started playing through myself and I'm making sure to use Goombella for every enemy on the first encounter just to fill my Tattle Log.

I think the first time it was true, that the footage was lost, and the rest is just jokes.

I wonder how long we have to wait for Arin to play the new sonic game.

I think the blue flame enemies on the Island was the worst. Just because the quake hammer doesn't work doesn't mean all hammer attacks don't work.

Danny lost so many coins.

Yep, I mentioned that a few pages ago. He still uses quake hammer when there are only 2 enemies and it does like 2 damage. He took the advice to use it way too seriously. Maybe more seriously than I'm taking these goof videos. :hmm

I'm so glad Danny didn't know how to use Tattle the first time either. Because I had literally just done the exact same thing in my own game a bit before (I'm playing through TTYD for the first time in like 13 years.) and am glad it's not just me, rather it's confusing UX.

What I mean is, Danny and I both thought, since the interface is a + symbol inside a reticle, that it would work exactly the same as Flurry's "Body Slam" move, where you need to manually move the + into the center of the target. Tattle uses the same graphics of a + and a reticle, but the way it's used is completely different. Instead when you Tattle, the + moves from left to right and you hit A when it is inside the circle.

What Danny, and I, were both doing, as I expect a few other people have, is trying to move the + with the stick and not having it work. The game doesn't really make it clear enough, and by using the same graphics it's implied that it works the same. I mean it's not like it's the only time UI is reused. Most of Mario's Hammer moves are the same stick tilting game with different speeds.

Made me smile when he ended up doing the same thing I did, followed by Arin's outburst when Danny did exactly what I bet Arin was expecting too. I bet Arin did the same thing in his game.

TTYD is great BTW. I'm currently working my way up the ranks in the Glitz Pit myself. If any game needs a HD rerelease, especially since Nintendo has completely forgotten how to make a proper Mario RPG without resorting to gimmicks, it's this and the original. (I have the original on my Wii VC. I should get back to it. But I really HATE the annoying darkened overlay Wii VC games have for some god forsaken reason.)

Typically you're expected to have used Tattle first before using Flurry's special moves, so no it's not confusing at all.

Oh god, they're playing Sonic Mania? Without a guest?

I don't think I want to watch.

Arin likes a Sonic game.

Arin likes a Sonic game

I'm shook.

Not only that, but he was complimenting Sonic Unleashed the other day. Granted, they had just got done with Zelda's Adventure which would make ANYTHING look good, but I'm counting it.
Unless he can add articulate why he likes this and not Sonic 3, which they played and disliked, I don't take the praise very seriously.

fwiw he has fully admitted that he has a love-hate relationship with the series, and only goes over the top on Grumps for the laffs. I'm sure he doesn't outright despise the series, so all his saltiness should be taken with a grain of salt

I don't believe for a second that he actually genuinely likes Sonic Mania.

This game is not as easy a target for him to not even care and shit all over it as the other Sonic games he picks for cheap laughs considering the crowd reception.
Plus he has become extremely buddy buddy with the guy that runs the Sonic Twitter, and somehow Arin and his wife are in the games special thanks despite what he said in the first ep that he has no idea whats going on and he never even watched footage of the game.

Eh

I believe him. I dont think hes played any 2D sonic on grump, and hes actively shitting on unleashed as early as last week.

Eh, he was shitting all over Sonic 3 and refused to play it and had a guest do it for him. Of course Arin plays up extremes, so you can argue both ways what his true feelings are. He could have been shitting on Sonic 3 just to get views or legit hate it or he could be being more positive towards Mania because he's friends with people that made it and he's reading the social climate or he legit likes it. And it could be a mix of all of the above.

He hasn't. I believe it was Ross, Gerard, and Jared who played Sonic 3 for Grumpcade.

Mhm. And sonic mania seems to be a legit good Sonic game. No reason he would stop shitting on sonic games when we know him and the sonic twitter handler have been friends for a long while now, since hes been shitting on what...sonic boom? Shadow the Hedgehog?

It's not like he's reviewing it.

Thats true, but at the same time a lot of people will end up swayed better by their favorite youtube personalities than actual reviewers. Of course not that Sonic Mania isn't a great game tho.

I assume they are of course going to play Sonic Forces, I wonder how he will treat that one.

Probably like shit

Like tbf, Sonic Mania is critically acclaimed for a sonic game. Arins positive opinion isn't that farfetched.

He's not, but he's a public figure whose opinions sway people and he's well known for shitting on Sonic. Getting Arin to say nice things instead is very helpful.

But Sonic 1, 2, and 3&K were critically acclaimed as well and he shat on them, so the idea that his opinion is being swayed by his involvement with the people who made the game seems more likely

I don't know guys. Even if Arin hates Sonic, he does seem to be genuinely loving Mania. And I love that because I have the same opinion as him. I like Sonic as a character, but I don't really care for the games. If anything, I only enjoy the classic 2D games for their colorful visuals. I'm loving the new added stuff they put in like the gels and extra animation frames. Looks wonderful.

If you're someone who only really likes the classic Sonic stuff before it went all Adventure and then went off the rails with the gimmicks, it seems Mania is right up your alley.

Is it me, or can YouTube not handle Sonic Mania? Like, I noticed it in a couple episodes now, the game seems to chug in the YouTube player at certain moments. I also noticed that this was a thing in the GB quicklook. Is it just a problem with my computer or can YouTube just not deal with the framerate?

I've personally never seen a smooth 60fps video... Whether that's the initial encode, Youtube's encode, or Chrome... I'm not sure.

I haven't watched todays Paper Mario yet but someone PLEASE tell me they spend the entire episode looking all over for the Ultra Hammer even though it's LITERALLY been staring them in the face the entire game so far and in fact was prominently displayed in front of them during the last Bowser chapter cutscene in Rogueport. Then they spend the entire episode tomorrow trying to find the entrance to the snow area.

Please tell me this is exactly what happens.

Edit: Nope. They didn’t even find it yet and aren’t even looking in the right place. Can’t wait to see how today’s episode went.

Also, they must be the dumbest gamers ever. They literally just learned the high jump and completely forgot how it works and only tried it once before giving up because they were too far down. Also not once have they used Bobbery to open cracks. SMH 🤦

I don't know ANYTHING about Game Grumps, the first time I watched a video of them was a BOTW video. I stumbled upon their first YouTube Red episode and it's like the spiritual successor to The Guild, if anyone remembers that.

Is it that good? (I personally enjoyed the guild). That sounds great and good for them.

It's like the guild if the guild was scripted, coherent, funny, and amusing.

Seriously, guild grumps was awful and it's 100% Ross' fault.

As for Good Game itself? It's pretty alright. It's typical Harmon humor with a bunch of people who aren't really actors so it's not going to win any awards for acting (especially Dan who just can't pull it off and it doesn't help that his makeup was done fairly poorly).

If you're a Game Grumps or Ninja Sex Party fan you'll definitely enjoy it, but it's not going to leave you feeling more impressed by them.

The first episode of Good Game was better than I expected it to be, but I'm still not planning on buying any of the later episodes.

I think they mean the Felicia Day Guild series from years ago.
