Game Informer May Cover Reveal: Final Fantasy XV

Did anybody count how often they changed the UI? I lost track but find the UI to be one of the interesting indicators of how often they seem to be iterating on ideas.

Could you gif Prompto's attack right before Nocits wiffs on that rhino thing? xD I think it starts right around 9:40.

I am trying to figure out how to gif things off that video but I am a noob :(

It's pretty pointless to track them this closely because at this point, nearly every single thing we've seen has supposedly been from some vague point of pre-beta development, so if they've actually shown us anything final we won't know until September.

Curious, is the ESRB the agency SE is afraid will give FFXV an automatic M rating for death worship? That seems... rather culturally insensitive on the ESA's part.

What tha hell is pre-beta game play anyway?
like how long ago is this pre-beta footage or version that they are showing?

3-6 months ago?

And yeah I'm sure they built a combat arena (demo duscae region) to test the combat engine. Hence why the grass and shadows are so strange.

I am still not very happy with the pokeball magic aiming system, I just wish it was faster?
Like throwing a grenade on vanquish or Dragons dogma mage attacks (needs to be faster).

FF XV's clean and proper style isn't stylish at all.

Would it hurt to show some animations of the characters while clicking through menus? Like when you click on Noctis... maybe you'll see him sleeping or looking at a picture of his dad or Luna or laughing with his friends? JUST ANYTHING?!

It's weird, yeah. Even FFXIII gave you portraits and backgrounds.

I mean, most FFs give you portraits.

They're worried about China. All the skulls tuff wouldn't play well in that market. ESRB has nothing to do with it. Games gonna be rated T in the US.

That menu is so simplistic

There should've been some wispy, ornate decorations on there to really drive the fantasy + reality theme going

The clean and proper and "baby's 1st menu" menu style of FFXV will hopefully be improved on. It's not bad. It's just bland. What's more alarming is the fact that we still haven't got a true English version of this from Uncovered: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVuhS1ZSKg4&nohtml5=False

I'm waiting for the English VA for Noctis to actually impress me with emotion. And have we even heard English Cor yet????

The menu is on poinT but you all know that most likely is going to be heavily touched up nearing the release of the game to add a lot more flair to it like character animations and better transitions so...

They're trying to hide the English va until release

Thanks :)

Noctis wiffing on that attack is kinda comical...I wonder if that was the player not gitting gud or if that attack is just really sloppy.

Misjudged the distance.

Hahahah. But how can you get big names like Aaron Paul and the woman who played Cersei AND SEAN BEAN in the CGI movie but not for the game......

Venom Regis, Venom Luna all detail their expressions via facial capture.

The art direction in FFXV is completely different from Persona 5. What Persona does works perfectly within Persona, but it would look completely out of place in XV.

This is actually so simple that there's something artful about it. Nothing jumps out to me as being unclear at all.

And the KH influence is especially strong in the character line up.

Remove your love for FF XV and look at it again. It's "baby's 1st menu" written all over it. None of these guys are even MOVING. No poses, no animations.... It's more static than artful, in my opinion.

But like other people said, this will prolly be improved upon so it's no big deal.

Eh that menu is really lame to me but it also doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things so I'll just shrug it off and move on.

I hope so. Not sure what's so on poinT about it currently. Basic text with a font that isn't the default isn't "simple and clean/minimalistic". It's entirely boring and probably as thrown together as it looks.

The one thing I don't like about that menu screen is:

ATK
DEF

I'm hoping the stats get a little more complicated than that.

If FFXIII is any indication, then sorry to say but the stats really will be that simple. Maybe it will have a magic attack and magic defense when the game comes out.

More stats doesn't automatically make a better rpg, but too few is indicative that the meat of the gameplay will be action combat as opposed to switching weapons/armor/accessories or building your characters in a certain way. Its just not looking to be that kind of game.

I don't see the UI changing at all. Maybe the background a little bit, but nothing besides that. From a UI standpoint I think it's nice how it's very simple and sticks to that.

Other than the background I'm actually happy with this. FFXIII's menus were elevated because of the smooth CG transitions for characters, so hopefully they work on the background for FFXV.

EDIT: Like, FFXV is not the game for flashy menus and has never been since that abomination from the 2011 trailer. I wouldn't want this to be any different.

The FFXIII's menus were badass and awesome. Awesome music played as you clicked on stuff. You'd get a cool brief animation of Lightning or whichever character too.

I think I time stamped a menu change.... https://youtu.be/6id6s2_YAZU?t=95

I wasn't comparing it to anything, on its own that P5 menu is a clusterfuck of visual clutter.

I wasn't pointing you out specifically, no worries. Just saying if everything is going to start being compared to Persona, which is a dramatically different aesthetic in every way because fanboy wars, it's gonna get annoying fast. You weren't the one comparing it in favor to XV's menu.

If there's one thing FFXIII was extremely good at, it was its presentation. The menus in that game are so smooth and satisfying to use, and they look great too. The graphics and soundtrack were top notch too.

I reckon FFXV's menus will probably be spruced up a bit before the game finally releases. Maybe some animations and whatnot. I imagine the overall idea of them will stay the same though.

The clean and proper style from FF XV is even present in Duscae. That's why I'm not even surprised by what the menu looks like right now. It's like.... it wants to be super professional or something like that.

But like I said, there's potential in giving animations and more vibrant personality to the menus. Maybe when you click on Prompto, you'd get a image of him goofing off or laughing or smiling. Ignis can be researching something. Gladio can be sharpening his sword or practicing with Noctis. Noctis can be sleeping or thinking of Luna or his dad. Then there can just be epic images of the game like the kingdom or the car or whatever.

I'm okay with these menu, but yeah some animations when the characters are selected wouldn't hurt.
And yeah, seeing only ATK and DEF isn't inspiring, but they already did that with XIII so i expected that.

Also, this is totally unrelated, but watching the latest Easy Allies podcast made me write down something very intimate about this game that i kinda wanted to share with you XV-Gaf guys:

Hi Ben (hope you'll still get to read this)!
You asking the guys where they were when VsXIII got announced and their plans for release made me think about where I was, how much i changed and especially where i'll be when it comes out, since it's going to be a CULMINATION of many things in my live: i'll graduate from university in college in Fall, and to celebrate i'll be travelling all around Japan (for the 1st time!) for research, from September 7th guess what the 30th.
If time-zones allow it, i'll actually try to partecipate at both the Day 1 in Japan (with those famous queues) and then in my home country.
Then, after three exhausting weeks, i'll arrive at the airport and what will await me? My best friends, and the game i've been most awaiting for the past decade.
Just wanted to tell you how much of a "religious experience" this will be for me too!

Special times ahead man, special times.
