The clean and proper style from FF XV is even present in Duscae. That's why I'm not even surprised by what the menu looks like right now. It's like.... it wants to be super professional or something like that.
But like I said, there's potential in giving animations and more vibrant personality to the menus. Maybe when you click on Prompto, you'd get a image of him goofing off or laughing or smiling. Ignis can be researching something. Gladio can be sharpening his sword or practicing with Noctis. Noctis can be sleeping or thinking of Luna or his dad.
This sounds awful. The problem with stuff like this is that it totally ignores the context of what's happening in the game. If you're in the middle of a very tense or traumatic sequence of the story, and you open up the menu and characters are goofing off or whatever, it's totally dissonant.
That's not to say I think the execution here is perfect, but adding superfluous animations is not the way to improve it. The characters display their personalities constantly throughout normal gameplay there's no need for that to leak into the UI.
Also, those XIII menu facial animations are goofy as hell.
