Game Pass players jump in for 5 minutes and then drop out - MachineGames

When those 5 minutes saved you the full price of a "AAAA must-play" game that you happen to not like at all from the start, I don't see the problem.

Game Pass saved me so much money, time and remorse through the years. Plus, it made me discover and enjoy smaller games I'd never even consider otherwise.

For me its clear. If I would want a sub-only gaming future dominated by one of the worst companies on earth, I would support subs. If I dont want this future because of all the disadvantages it brings...I am simply sticking to the purchase model. Every gamer needs to decide himself what he wants and which consequences this might bring...and than just act accordingly.
That's fine but the issue here for me is that it has ruined what Xbox once was. They've gone this subscription route which has basically meant they now offer their games on Playstation, devaluing their console completely. So really, what is an Xbox today if not a console? It's pathetic and was only done to try ruin Playstation. It failed miserably.

I dont understand this. For consoleros this whole subscription stuff shouldnt be a big deal. I mean you always had an overlord which was feeding you what they deemed is good for you....and you happily took it. Nothing has really changed, right? :pie_thinking:

On pc however (iam a pc guy) this is a complete different story. We always had a complete free and functional store market which these subscription models are going to undermine and competing against. And I see no any advantages with that system, but a lot of disadvantages. Thats why I think it can go to where it came from.

Really will never understand the time and energy some put into hating gamepass. If you don't use it and don't want it you'll be ok.
Because some gamers on their platforms have a shitty sub plan where you can pay top tier prices and not get good day one or recent games. If youre paying top prices, you'd think you'd get day one games just like GP Ultimate, UBI+, EA Premium etc...

And if someone doesn't want to do it that's fine. Just keep buying games one by one getting nitpicked to death.

Funny thing is most the sub plan naysayers probably still pay for the basic MP plan. And most probably got NF, Spotify, Hulu or Disney+ etc... subbing to movies and music plans streaming endless shit for $10-15/mth with a smile on their face, since they dont have to go old school buying CDs and DVDs for $15 each. They dont even want to pay $1 for individual songs, but have no problem loading up on these sub plans. The typical music artist probably makes like 1/100th of a penny per stream and they got no problem with them getting such low revenue it gets into the fractions of a penny.

It's human behavior.

People tend to put less value in things they don't outright purchase themselves.

I had PS+ for years and I don't think I played even 1% of the "monthly free games" I have obtained from that service over the years.

I also have a modded PS Vita with unlimited access to Pkgj and a modded 3DS with the hshop yet I don't feel like using them because of their nature of being free and accessible at any point I don't feel the rush to use those services specially if I didn't spend money buying those games.

The people that will value access to these "free games" more are the ones who don't have much money or game ownership to begin with.

I definitely use GP as an extended demo sometimes, but a lot of the time I get involved in the games. Would I have bought Halo infinite, black ops 6, stalker 2? Maybe

But I got Atomfall, Expedition 33, Indiana Jones to name a few for, arguably, nothing.

I loved all of these and completed all of them, even went 2nd round and bought IJ for PS.

There is a lot of shovelware but amongst the "AAA" and popular stuff, there are also some cracking games which some developers have slaved over.

Negative Game Pass news on my watch?

@adamsapple when someone praises gamepass

"It's on Game Pass. There's going to be a lot of people trying this genre for the first time. It was very, very important to make the onboarding stronger and better than other titles. That was a big focus.

"As for Game Pass… We know the behavior of players. They jump in for five minutes and they drop out. You can take a certain amount of decisions based on that, but at the same time, you don't want to make too many concessions. It needs to be a great game for the player who plays all the way through. That's the most important part for us, being the story-centric studio as we are. It's a hard balance. You always know that you should worry about that more, but at the same time, you care about the grand scheme of things."

I can even say that some games I haven't played very long just to see if its something I gravitate towards with Game Pass. Time is finite for playing games and the first ~five minutes of a game should at least give you an idea if it's something your going to be interested in or not. That's the entire point of Game Pass you aren't going to play every single game on the service for a long duration. Maybe the OP should have posted the actual entire quote in context, but I guess taking five minutes to read the article and comment was too much as well. :messenger_winking_tongue:

Not shocking to me that they designed it this way, having finished the game, I mentioned that I thought the early Vatican area was far, far better than the last Sukhothai (?) area in almost every way.

The game kinda went downhill as it goes because they really focused on hooking you in for 5 hours or so, then kinda phoned it in a little.

I think they are talking about even before that part.

Agreed, I think the game did a great job setting things up and getting you to the Vatican, which is one of the best level designs I've seen in a while. I just have gripes with what comes after lol, even Giza was fun, it's just Sukhothai that sucked ass.

Also the nature of Gamepass is driving more trial users, which obviously will lead into lots of them dipping out, it's just the nature of trials tbh. I don't really see why this is a good or bad thing.

To be honest, anyone with a pulse is gonna be done with that bowl of shit in 5 minutes.

Gamepass is bad for the art form, but the Indiana Jones game is too. Combine the two and you've got real problems.

Thats mainly because all big games these days are consultant milked corporate focused grouped boring shit fests and blaming players and everything else except yourselves is a clear indication of knowing what you are putting out but not wanting to be responsible for it.
