Highly doubt it. These price changes will eventually apply to people currently subscribed, otherwise the entire point of a price increase makes no logical sense. Higher sub prices will naturally suppress uptake by new customers, and old customers who never see an increase won't satisfy the revenue & profit growths MS wants from the service.
Also it seems like this is
very scattershot in terms of who's exempt or who isn't; there are people in the same country such as France where one may not be seeing an increase but another person in the same country, will. The way I see it, the people not getting increases seem to be exceptions, but with things like this the only significant focus is how the majority are affected.
From what I can see, no one in the U.S or Canada has gotten one of these emails (if they have, someone hit me with a source). I'd suspect most Game Pass subscribers are in America, and a non-insignificant amount being in Canada. I'd suspect most of those are on console. So, if they aren't getting exemptions, then it's fair to say most Game Pass subscribers are going to see the increases.
If this is Microsoft trying to rollback on the price hike, then I don't see how it benefits them whatsoever. This isn't the first time they've pushed for a very unpopular change to get immediate backlash, so how could anyone put faith in a company that has shown a capacity for continued strings of terrible business decisions? Besides, it's rather obvious the end point they want to arrive at; any walk backs on recent decisions like the price increases would only offer momentary relief, just acting as a delay of the inevitable.
A company that has to be this reactionary and sporadic in their public-facing business decisions, or appear so indecisive in what direction they want to go, shouldn't engender much any trust from customers. That's not the kind of company or brand product you're going to have confidence spending money on or into.
So whats happens to the millions and millions of people who unsubscribed last week. Would they be considered new customers now?
Knowing the operational mentality of this company and those like it, likely yes.
