I already got an email from Microsoft. PC gamepass goin up for me.
Starting November 4,2025 I will be charged $16.49 plus applicable taxes for PC Gamepass.
It went from
11.99 to 16.49
and extra $4.50 more each month. :(

Isn't actually the opposite? Some people might not get their subcription price hiked in some areas (that aren't the US).

A little back tracking maybe?

"We regularly evaluate exchange rates and market conditions, so pricing may vary by region. For the most up-to-date information on plan features and pricing in your area, visit the plan picker on Xbox.com."

Gamepass Console tier subscribers are still getting Day 1 games. As long as they keep the recurring billing going.

That's what they will likely do with PC Gamepass users when it gets deprecated. Stop allowing new sign-ups to that tier but let the existing customers keep it going as long as they keep recurring billing on. Or they may simply raise it to $20 month next year.

I cancelled GPU in solidarity with all the affected homies, might as well sell the old Xbox now, not worth engaging with the brand under new prices.

Just going to keep pimping my PC from here on out.

It's like all these console companies sit around a table every Monday and ask "How can we make Gabe Newell richer today?"

Not sure about the market thing.

My guess is new price will be applicable to all new subscribers in all markets.

The email says "for the market in which you reside". Yes, new subscribers everywhere will get the new pricing. Existing subscribers in specific markets can continue with existing pricing if they remain subscribed.

Except you don't really "cancel" Game Pass. You just turn off reoccurring billing. My guess is if you are in one of those areas and turn reoccuring billing back on then you should be good.

Until Microsoft decide you need to "renew to enjoy the benefits of the all new gamepass ultimate!", and move all current ultimate customers down to the premium tier

Which will probably happen next month

This is just a way of consolidating gamepass user base.

Those who dip in and out will have to pay extra.

I will keep subscribing as long as I am on old rates. Else will dip in - out.

I guess I'll keep my "grandfathered" PC Game Pass plan if it indeed stays at $11.99. Looks like at least my November charge is the same.

I was going to cancel it after the announcement, but the page was down at the time lol

Must of got spooked with the backlash and backtracked.

Must be a hard pill to swallow offering those extras they added without being able to recover the costs from those existing subs, cause they will be very lucky to get new subs in decent numbers at that new price.

Highly doubt it. These price changes will eventually apply to people currently subscribed, otherwise the entire point of a price increase makes no logical sense. Higher sub prices will naturally suppress uptake by new customers, and old customers who never see an increase won't satisfy the revenue & profit growths MS wants from the service.

Also it seems like this is very scattershot in terms of who's exempt or who isn't; there are people in the same country such as France where one may not be seeing an increase but another person in the same country, will. The way I see it, the people not getting increases seem to be exceptions, but with things like this the only significant focus is how the majority are affected.

From what I can see, no one in the U.S or Canada has gotten one of these emails (if they have, someone hit me with a source). I'd suspect most Game Pass subscribers are in America, and a non-insignificant amount being in Canada. I'd suspect most of those are on console. So, if they aren't getting exemptions, then it's fair to say most Game Pass subscribers are going to see the increases.

If this is Microsoft trying to rollback on the price hike, then I don't see how it benefits them whatsoever. This isn't the first time they've pushed for a very unpopular change to get immediate backlash, so how could anyone put faith in a company that has shown a capacity for continued strings of terrible business decisions? Besides, it's rather obvious the end point they want to arrive at; any walk backs on recent decisions like the price increases would only offer momentary relief, just acting as a delay of the inevitable.

A company that has to be this reactionary and sporadic in their public-facing business decisions, or appear so indecisive in what direction they want to go, shouldn't engender much any trust from customers. That's not the kind of company or brand product you're going to have confidence spending money on or into.

So whats happens to the millions and millions of people who unsubscribed last week. Would they be considered new customers now?

Knowing the operational mentality of this company and those like it, likely yes.

Probably, who knows, I don't have the mental strength required to sift through Xbox marketing spaghetti logic right now, it's easier to just nope out and enjoy Steam.

Microsoft is trying to keep the facade going as long as possible. They must not have realized in their stupidity that raising the price of Ultimate to $30 would have led to so many cancellations, and they can't lose that revenue too quickly. They were probably thinking gamers were too stupid to notice an extra $10 a month.
