Game Sack: The Nintendo Gamecube

Talking of all things, Gamecube, I had overlooked buying Star Fox Assault at the time, so now, 20 years later I decided to purchase it, much to my surprise, the game STILL holds its value to this day, being as close a price to a recently released game.....hell even Chibi Robo costs in the hundreds....but getting the Wii late-last year -key reason, simply because of wanting to play Gamecube games again, without any complicated technical hassle...

Here's a great video that recently got released, about some of the stand out titles on the platform:

I never had one in its prime as I was invested in the PS2, but after picking one up a few years ago and playing some of its library I can see why it is so beloved. That controller really surprised me, because it doesn't look like it feels as good as it does until you have it in your hands.

Any recommendations on how to play it on modern TVs? Don´t say Wii, I gave mine to my brother and want to use my original hardware.
Some sort of HDMI converter connector would be the way to go, the Wii pretty has the necessary compatibility to play cube games with ease, I couldn't be bothered to go through the hassle in trying to bring my Cube out of the cupboard where it has been for decades, so I turned to the Cube compatible Wii, with Nintendon't installed in it...

Wii doesn´t have the Game Boy Player and I have a huge collection.
Oh well, will probably just buy a scart to hdmi adapter. Still rocking that original DOL-013 cable.

I love gamesack.. Only found them last year but have since binged all the videos.
Easily my favorite YouTube channel. I've watched every episode at this point, many of them multiple times. The scripting, editing, and overall quality are not only great, but also super consistent.

I have this HDMI adapter and it's great. Absolutely ZERO added latency. https://a.co/d/ddu758f

Note that you need to have the digital video out port on your GameCube, so it needs to be one of the earlier models.

GameCube was the Nintendo console that ended my Nintendo fanboyism. The software droughts were insane. Don't get me wrong, the system had some bangers, but they were trickled out over the lifespan of the console. And don't get me started on 3rd party content. Felt like we were fighting for scraps. I think the majority of the love that GC gets these days is due to nostalgia and rose-tinted glasses. I wanted so badly for it to be as good as PlayStation at the time.

Same, I got rid of it pretty fast. I never liked the controller either.

the love the Cube gets is largely because we don't have that drought and can play all the games at once and aren't comparing it to the firehose that was the PS2 for five years. And well the games actually were extremely well done and often original (Chibi Robo).

Makes sense. I guess for me I just get a bit triggered when I think of my time with GC. Like the cartridge's on N64, it's like Nintendo were intentionally limiting themselves with the mini-dvds.

GBA and GC are my favorite Nintendo consoles. Thinking that both existed at the same time is absolutely unbelievable. We don't realize how good we had it back then !

GC even had a fantastic GBA player.

Loved the Gamecube, and already enjoying revisiting what's been released on Switch 2 NSO so far with the original controller. Really looking forward to playing more as they're released during the console's lifespan.

GameCube was a sad system in many ways. Finally, a powerful Nintendo system with optical media. Some impressive looking games.

But then a series of baffling decisions that immediately made GCN the third place console.

A purple primary SKU. A non-DVD mini disc. A spooky Luigi game as the launch tentpole. A manga style mainline Zelda. A tropical mainline 3D Mario.

Not even the "megaton" of Capcom 5 could ignite the console, and quickly it was sold at a $99 bargain bin price.

Then they developed a motion controller and a slim white shell for the console and the world went fucking nuts about it, condemning Nintendo loyalists to seven years of 480P in the HD era.

And it's also the console that we have not seen any new (and noteable) entries in some big Nintendo games in, in over 20 years, ie Wave Race, Starfox, and F-Zero, as if Nintendo doesn't want to revisit these franchises for some reason after all these years, fortunatly games like F-Zero still hold up well today, but it is crazy that there hasn't been anything new for these 3 in such a long, long time...If those 3 came back for the Switch 2, I'd be on board in getting the new Switch 2

It didn't help with its PR image that it looked like a lunch box, but power wise it more than held it's own against the PS2, and was 2nd only to the Xbox..

GameCube is one of the GOATs.

I know everyone has an opinion but....

Atlanta No GIF

Has no one ever told you that story about Burnout 3 ?
I have seen this argument pop up from time to time without any definitive answer. There exists a version of Burnout 3 on PSP 'Burnout Legends', so I doubt a CPU limitation was the primary reason for it not appearing on Gamecube.

If the Gamecube could do it with similar fidelity and performance is hard to say. Supposedly not at 60fps from what I can read, but unless someone is willing to port the game GTA3 Dreamcast style, I guess we will never know for sure.

It's not as good as it used to be when the other guy left. But in terms of retro content, it's one of the better channels. Sometimes the end skits are hit and miss. But overall, I love how the host appears in other you tuber vidies, like the recent Console Wars Lethal Enforcers. There is a funny bit in there where they keep shooting him.

Props for keeping it going by himself.
