most anticipated launch game ;)

Hehe, funny because it's semi true.

Why are you guys surprised? It's already been told a few days ago that so far only Fable, Halo and Halo 2 are certified to be working with Xbox 360.

Only having three titles BC at launch is NOT backwards compatabilty. That's Halo, Halo2 and Fable compatability. I thought newer games like Ninja Gaiden Black was supposed to be coded with 360 BC in mind? Maybe it's too early still to know what's up but when we heard that a list was going to be out in the next couple weeks I didn't expect only that it would only be three titles.

Looks like MS is on time for once. Paper press should get the first kits this week, pro websites should get them within 2 weeks, and lesser people one day maybe...

One of the lessers eh? :(

Combining Halo 2 RE and CE, is Fable the #3 Microsoft game?

Nope, PGR is.

Very disappointing news. For someone like me who never bought an Xbox (I know, I know), BC is a major draw. I'm still there Day One but this is definitely disappointing if true.

Plus I'm afraid that after launch, MS will try to forget the whole BC issue. That "as long as there is consumer interest" line weighs heavy.

As someone had said this is not backwards compatibility. It's at best title specific emulation. This is an outright lie.

Dante said:
Man they should just go all the way with BC or not at all.

Oh come on. If they hadn't done it at all with anything, people'd be railing on them for that too. If it was 100% b.c., people would complain about game saves and controllers not being compatible. They are damned any way you slice it. I appreciate their efforts, however futile. If you haven't tossed your XB1 yet you really shouldn't care one way or the other.

I thought the retail units would just have a simple AC plug into the back not a seperate power block?

whoa, if it only plays Halo 1 and 2 and fable outta the box, and require that you need to get internet to the Xbox to play the other ones "Down the road" thats going to be diasterous on launch day for the unsuspecting.

Not really. They've always said "with the top selling xbox titles".

It does suck big time for those who want and expect backwards compatibility if the list remains so small.

I coulda sworn I had read this too somewhere along the way.

I seem to recal both the PS3 and Xbox 360 of using a standard PC power cord?

They also said "Our goal is to have every Xbox game work on Xbox 360". The latest party line certainly seems a step backwards from that.

I definatly think they could of handled this whole backward compatibilty issue alot better. Can you imagine a game store worker trying to explain that It requires emulation for each xbox 1 game to run on the 360 and that you need an internet connection to update the catalogue of playable xbox 1 games?

If they were doing backward compatibility they should of done it properly or not at all.

Ahhhhh, :lol

The infamous PS3 is smaller than 360 threads are what you seek. People lining up the AC and ethernet cords to try and judge how big the systems were.

Good times :lol

Wow, listen to all these whinners.... final debug kits. yay!!

I mean hell, I know there's going to say: "WTF? No PANZER DRAGOON ORTA?!?! F U Microsoft!!!" :lol

Seriously though, I'm not looking forward to the next bitch session of "MS screwed us with BC" type threads. So if you make one, know you're being watched.

If I want to play a XBOX game (which is not B.C) on XBL, will I need to transfer my live account back to my XBOX, or will MS allow us to keep our live account on the xbox and 360 at the same time?

The point is that the words "backwards compatible" shouldn't even be used. Is having the software that allows GT emulation makes the Dreamcast backwards compatible with PS1?

The worst thing about this is that they aren't going to be selling the old Xboxs anymore. There will be hundreds of titles out there on the shelf that technically have no purchaseable system on which to play them, save finding a used one. PS1 games are still stocked in stores because the current system can play them.

I can see publishers putting out recent Xbox games recently getting pissed off that their stuff technically has no buyable system to run on. Hopefully MS has been telling devs how to make their stuff 360 compilant, but who knows how much work that takes.

There was also that talk that they were progressing rapidly, saying that each new big hit game they got working would have the benefit of getting several less popular games using the same features of the Xbox 1 to work as well.

Not only that, the Xbox is such a piece of shit, that I have absolutely no faith in one lasting past next generation and that totally sucks.

Hey, it's JohnnyK from GamePro. OK, first on backwards compatiblity. We tried a bunch of games, both first and third party. Games included Conker: Live and Reloaded, Project Gotham Racing 2, Fable, and Ninja Gaiden Black, just to name a few. With all of those games we got a "this original Xbox game cannot be played. You must download a patch before you can play it." And coincidentally enough, there was no indication on how much those patches would cost.
:lol :lol :lol

It's time to accept that MS has lied, is lying, and will lie to Xbox consumers. Don't expect that they'll ever come fully clean on anything anymore. All the way back to before the Xbox launch they were saying that they'd fix the controller before launch. Instead they waited until everyone bought 4 fatties and then released the S. They've lied about 360 features, launch details, and BC.

I want my 360 as much as ANYONE ELSE on this forum, but I'm stick and tired of the BS that the likes of Allard and Moore spit out.

Interesting that even Fable doesn't work. Hopefully, more games work with the retail unit.

This is great to know, so thanks a lot for bringing it up.

I'll buy a second power strip to sequester that bitch. :D

Debut unit? Ok, lets hope that this patch is availble at launch or close to it. ;_;

The Power Supply scares me, could you get a pic of it next time?

My guess is the HDD (non-retard pack) will be able to play 100+ Xbox games out of the box. Everyone twisting their twizzler because the debug kit can't play Xbox 1 games are just good for a laugh. :lol

Yeah, I guess it's a question of whether or not the promises that they've kept are enough to outweigh those they've not. I guess there's enough to love about the 360 that I still want one, but it's a shame that I'm disillusioned about the system going into the next gen. It certainly makes it that much easier to kick the thing to the curb when other next gen systems arrive.

Moore was a lying bastard during the Dreamcast days. So much was promised for that system that never materialized. I'm not surprised to see him back to his old tricks.

But, who knows if this is just because the unit is a debug. Potentially, the retail until could come pre-installed with more patches than those just supporting Halo and Halo 2.

:lol :lol :lol

Backwards compatibility was a lie, or at least a mistruth.

Remember the guy that has a dad that works in a test team of the x360 and he toke some pics of the x360 at his house he said that the power supply was HUGE and now this...I'm really curious to see it now.

H:CE works by default w00t! :D

I guess they'll never escape jokes about size...

OK, a pic of the power supply is coming very soon.

In the meantime stay tuned for more. I'll be posting a list of all first party titles that we'll test on the debug, including how the 360 reponds to them.

Cool, thanks. :)

Does it say on the 360 box that it supports backwards compatibility (without explaining the details)? Cause if so, MS is about to find their ass in court, again. :) And if not, then this discussion is mute.

well that's fine. I'm guessing (just off the top of my head) that all the $19.99 games will work, plus 500,000+ sellers and more well established games.

So like off the top of my head:
Ninja Gaiden (both versions)
Brothers in Arms (both)
SCII
DoA 3, DoA XBV, DoA U
Colin McRae Rally
Riddick
OutRun 2
Midway Classics 1-4 (or whatever # they're on)
etc

Those are just off the top of my head. Halo 1 & 2 not withstanding.

Regardless though, anyone who thinks that MS is failing on their "commitment" to bring BC to the X360 due to GamePro's Debug kit.... come on guys, wait another month and then we'll see.

I'm not picking on you specifically, but what's with this attitude? Since when can't consumers criticize the products they potentially want to buy? I'm not expected to just suck it up and be happy if MS wants me to bring a XBox-sized PSU into my house and fit it somewhere behind my TV. People have every right to bitch. The same thing goes for loading times, poorly designed hardware, and things of that nature.

That being said, I don't think anyone was explicitly bitching, considering we've yet to see the final PSU.

EDIT: When the pic is posted then the bitching can start. ;) Also, Johnny, is it definitely the final unit or can it change before launch?

place like a dollar bill next to the power supply when you take the pic, so we can use it to judge the scale.

p.s. Jeff, your Avatar is hilarious! :lol

Seriously.

Also, the huge power adapter is probably the same one that came the devkits, not the retail model.
