Gamepro Has its Debug 360, Halo2 works..

Perhaps *every* Xbox 360 will work with Halo and Halo 2. Even the core pack. But you need the hdd and patches for all other games? Just a thought.

Don't both games rely on the HD for caching and such?

Well we've hard our fun, but we'll find out next week. Allard said a list of compatible games will go up on Xbox.com sometime next week. I forget the interview. I think it was Eurogamer.

I'm going to check the cache file size of H2, I'm almost sure that it surpass 512MB if they're going to use the main ram for cache

And, the concave-in design of the 360 makes it fit perfectly on top of the original Xbox (finally, something fits on top of the Xbox without sliding off the sides!).

what???????? i always thought the sides of the 360 are still plain even though the shape of the faceplate makes it look like concave-in...

Does not compute. Oh, man, I really gotta stop spamming. It's so fun, though.

Holy crap...time to shut the furnace off upstairs.

It seems to be as large as the current xbox PSU is just that this time isn't inside, that or I'm getting wrong the dimensions of that thing

The cost of adding backwards compatibility is already built-into the price of the 20GB hard drive. That is part of the reason of why it is so overpriced.

yeah, and they said every xbox 360 would come with a detatchable 20gb hdd, xbox live headset, wireless controller and component/composite cables...

i mean, they just have to say that backwards compatibility is expensive to do and you only have to buy the paks with the games you play and many people will buy it...
Not to get into semantics with you but every Xbox 360 does come with that stuff. Saying the Xbox 360 Core is an Xbox 360 is like saying the iPod Shuffle is an iPod. I do believe they were ambiguous in the way they phrased everything at E3 though, partly because they hadn't decided what they were going to do at that point.

Like I said they've already factored the cost of adding backwards compatibility into the price of the hard drive. Since the feature is being added as automatic updates over Xbox Live I think it's a lot more likely that they would just do a slight increase across the board to Xbox Live subscription fees before they would ever start charging people individually to add compatibility for the games they've already paid for. Johnny Korea wasn't really basing it on anything he was just speculating.

Yeah for overreactions. I'm glad I only have to write code for a handful of whiny assholes. We knew from the start that they had to emulate the original Xbox (emulating the x86 and Nvidia chipsets and then making changes on top of that for individual games) and the team working on it wasn't formed until fairly late and we're receiving this news not from Microsoft but from Gamepro who just has a debug kit and no real knowledge of the state of backwards compatibility (how old is the emulation code on the kit and how many games have patches? we don't know). Furthermore, we were warned by Microsoft that although they were going to try for 100% backwards compatibility (over the life of the 360) all they could really guarantee was they'd get the best selling titles working and that they'd keep working on it.

*If* there aren't a fair amount of Xbox games working on launch day (10-15 at the very least with a lot of games on the horizon) after live updates then Allard and other MS execs should apologize for a serious misforcast of bc.

:lol

I'll have to look and see how big my GC adapter is. I haven't seen it since I bought the console.. that pic makes the adapter look frickin huge!

wow, this thread is fucking priceless.

That dude didn't *really* break a NDA or something, right?

Also, holy shit @ that PSU. That thing is gargantuan. :-\

It does look to be about half the size of the GC's adapter. The adapter on my old Phillips LCD was probably about the same size (it was a heavy ass motherfucker).

now we have the answer to why the x360 retail box was so big in those pictures. everyone at GAF was trying to figure that out the other day... well, now we know. ;)

Holy shit how big is the GC's adapter cause this Xbox 360 adapter is the biggest external PSU I've ever seen.

3. Nobody give a shit about the size of the power supply.

Thanks and have a great day. :)
You overestimate GAF. Remember the Burnout 3 sparks comparison threads? :lol

Burnout PS2 sparks superior to Burnout Xbox sparks!

It's looking to be a good chance NDA was broken in this very thread.

Oh shit...my 360 is going to be plugged into the same socket as my amplifier, subwoofer AND TV... :o Can anyone confirm if that is the PSU we'll get in the final pack?

Oh and lmfao at this avatar:

Actually, I think Fujimax might be more accurate. It's been a while since I've seen the GC AC adapter.

Think of the worlds biggest fan and then think of a T-rex eating Taco Bell. Now throw the result at the fan.
