People on gamergate reall seem to hate Giant Bomb now. Did they do something specific? It can't just be Patrick's recent article about the Anita talk getting cancelled?

At this point I really think that the GG people should launch a kickstarter for their own "ethically pure" gaming site. If they are so offended by the existing media, why don't they create their own option?

I would support this. The Gamer Gate and Anti-Gamer gate rhetoric has probably strayed too far to accomplish anything but feed trolls at this point.

They have journalistic integrity but are speaking out about the #GamerGate hate group. Hate groups don't like opposition.

Unfortunately that thread was closed to due to it becoming entirely about gamergate, Zoe Quinn, Anita, etc.

And ironically Rab Florence, the man who started DoritoGate by criticizing gaming journalism, the image that anchors that thread... this is what he says about gamergate:

This is a journalistic integrity movement, but it focuses on a few small indie developers looking for mentions on websites instead of relationships with massive publishers who control 90 percent of games writing in one way or another via game access, embargos, and advertising. Suuuure.

I'm not sure it would to be honest, after all this thread is supposed to be the only place for GG but that hasn't stopped it showing up in other threads anyway. The main challenge will be on the mods' time I mean this thread is already a time sink, is there the capacity for doubling that load?

Edit: But I would love to be able to get backing to talking about actual challenges in journalism, I'm just not sure that thread could stay on track.

Yeah. Just wanted to show that the ethics debate was prevalent before GG poisoned the well and was kicked off by the brilliant and brave Rab Florence who now gets shit from GG for being part of the SJW conspiracy.

We had constantly accusations that Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkeesian are making up threats. They showed constantly proof besides how ridiculous, awful and part of the harassment these accusations are. On the other hand, we still need proof that these accusations are true. Thats how it actually works.

On Bombing in the am on Monday Patrick and especially Alex went in hard against the harassment of women in games Brad and Jeff briefly criticised the harassment on the bombcast last night I don't think either case used the word GamerGate.

I'm all for this. This dicussion is still pretty interesting (and somewhat necessary) but there really is no way it can happen without the GG rule

Where did you hear that?
I think they talked about it for a couple of minutes on the Bombcast. Didn't listen to it yet though, just what I heard. It's not some hard hitting critique on the bombcast, but Alex and Patrick (Alex in particular) were pretty harsh on it during Bombin the AM.

Yup in his blog post A Lettter to Some Dude on #GamerGate he makes it clear that the actual problem he was addressing (i.e. the dodginess of the whole GMA setup) was drowned out by a misogynistic hate campaign against a writer who made a stupid call. Seriously the one guy who went to the line for his ethical principles and they're just ignoring what he has to say.

Yeah, I wrote this column once about how games journalism looks kinda compromised by corporate influence. And then the website I wrote for got bullied into removing stuff from my column. And that meant I had to quit. And let me tell you – I was angry. I was all ready to go on full attack against the bullies I hold responsible – Intent Media (they also run the Games Media Awards in the UK, recognising games journalists for their work, how funny!). But I had to back down, because misogynists had taken control of the argument. There was a woman involved in the whole thing, and – well – you know what happens next on this fucking internet. Shit doesn’t roll downhill on the internet. It rolls towards the nearest woman.

Yeah looks like it was the podcast, the number 2 on front page on that gg reddit is, "Cancelled my GB Sub over this weeks podcast." The people on twitter are being freaking nuts about it though, holy crap.

A lot of GG-ers have stated they want Game journalism out so they can just have game company PR.

Not sure how that'll solve the review problems, but I guess they want the opposite of what we thought they wanted...

It was a great thread and I frequently posted in it.

It highlighted stuff like shady advertorials, publications echoing publisher press releases, gross industry award ceremonies. And also the good like positive policy changes and genuine journalism.

Funny how GamerGate was nowhere to be seen for any of the controversies. Then again, they mostly involved men.

actually calls out how dumb this is or not.

I just want to point out at that at this point the enemies for the "Movement for journalistic integräty" are some of the most outspoken and anti-corporate media people out there. Like say whatever the hell you want about Klepek, Walker, Sterling or Raab I can't think of many people who are more "anti-corporate" but professional about it.
But it's not like I'm the first one to see this. I just find it hilarous and sad at the same time. Then again GG isn't about corruption so who cares.

Though I'm interested, since I don't frequent reddit cause I find the layout offensive to my eyes and 4chan cause I'm scared: What are the sites, journalists or incidents the modest GGs talk about? There must be at least some discussion about "corruption" so I'm curious what that's about.
 
The worst thing about Gamergate is that it's ruined a perfectly good acronym.

GG should mean Good Game or Guilty Gear (pretty much the same thing) and not be associated with a bunch of dick bags tweeting vitriolic shit to female members of the industry.

Just kidding. The worst thing about gamergate is the immature, hateful sub humans who felt the needs to make up a cause to try and legitimise their misogyny

There is something deeply, deeply troubling about the purely instinctive, visceral, frothing, pathological response that so many presumably semi-functioning human beings have to another person even mentioning a documented issue of sexism. I honestly don't know what to make of it.

I wonder how many men who act like that also believe in the gendered stereotype that women are inherently more emotional and prone to irrational outbursts than men.
 
I wonder if a lot of the gamergate rage at the journalism machine is merely jealousy?

Like, "Why don't I get free review codes? I could review games better than Arthur Gies does!" It's not a sentiment I feel is particularly rare and I've seen it plenty of times before.
