TB continuing to insinuate on Twitter that the root of Gamergate was ethical concerns. Come on.
Haha, I realize this thread moves at breakneck speeds and I'm late for this, but I find it hilarious that someone would actually believe that's a real twitter account. A nameless 'girl' whose description is "Just a girl who believes in TRUE social justice." with zero actual humans in follow list and only ever tweeted about gamergate. I got a bridge and a monorail to sell to you folks...
People on gamergate reall seem to hate Giant Bomb now. Did they do something specific? It can't just be Patrick's recent article about the Anita talk getting cancelled?
True heroes of GamerGate, these women:

Would it be possible to restart a Game Journalism thread if we put a strict "No GG discussion" rule in the thread?

I would like this very much.Would it be possible to restart a Game Journalism thread if we put a strict "No GG discussion" rule in the thread?
Have largely kept out of the whole ordeal. Just curious if those questions/accusations/etc were actually already addressed else where?

I think #gamergate is the most embarrassed I've ever felt about being a "gamer".

Which accusations?
GamerGate is a hate movement. Anyone who actually cares about journalistic integrity or whatever should have fled this ship long ago.

Yeah. Just wanted to show that the ethics debate was prevalent before GG poisoned the well and was kicked off by the brilliant and brave Rab Florence who now gets shit from GG for being part of the SJW conspiracy.Unfortunately that thread was closed to due to it becoming entirely about gamergate, Zoe Quinn, Anita, etc.
I'd say that, yes.
Even though two of them says it straight out that they are feminists?

The ones in the reddit post.
Been looking to answer my own question though and so far found this provided by Quinn.

These young men feel like they're among their cohort, too, but their actions are both material and recorded. They're not just enabling the status quo with private speech and public silence—their anger and error is being recorded for posterity. I mean maybe all this text gets swept away as the internet remakes itself again and again, taking all the "feminists are ruining my life" and "but it's actually about ethics in games journalism!" comments with it. But maybe it doesn't! Maybe this post on gaming forum NeoGAF (via) will play out in slow motion over many years, for thousands of people, as they look back on their own words frozen in amber:
It actually took far, far longer than I'm comfortable with for this to sink into my thick skull. When you finally detach yourself from GG, and move away from the constant reinforcement the group provides that "no, we're doing the right thing! These are the bad guys, remember how bad they made you feel? We're doing the RIGHT THING!" you look and see holy shit.

....
Yeah, I wrote this column once about how games journalism looks kinda compromised by corporate influence. And then the website I wrote for got bullied into removing stuff from my column. And that meant I had to quit. And let me tell you – I was angry. I was all ready to go on full attack against the bullies I hold responsible – Intent Media (they also run the Games Media Awards in the UK, recognising games journalists for their work, how funny!). But I had to back down, because misogynists had taken control of the argument. There was a woman involved in the whole thing, and – well – you know what happens next on this fucking internet. Shit doesn’t roll downhill on the internet. It rolls towards the nearest woman.
Sometimes when the barrel is sour you need to walk away from the barrel, y’know?

Common sense is the anti-gamergate
And what a great trade that was...
Which is a real bummer, because GG has distracted places like GAF from calling out and discussing *actual* issues in games media. That thread has been locked for a while.
Where did you hear that?
I think they talked about it for a couple of minutes on the Bombcast. Didn't listen to it yet though, just what I heard. It's not some hard hitting critique on the bombcast, but Alex and Patrick (Alex in particular) were pretty harsh on it during Bombin the AM.

Yup in his blog post A Lettter to Some Dude on #GamerGate he makes it clear that the actual problem he was addressing (i.e. the dodginess of the whole GMA setup) was drowned out by a misogynistic hate campaign against a writer who made a stupid call. Seriously the one guy who went to the line for his ethical principles and they're just ignoring what he has to say.
Even though two of them says it straight out that they are feminists?
They have journalistic integrity but are speaking out about the #GamerGate hate group. Hate groups don't like opposition.
I'm sure you're being sarcastic.
That thread was actually good, it actually discussed real issues regarding journalistic ethics in gaming.
GamerGate is just...ew.
I can't figure out if this guyYeah looks like it was the podcast, the number 2 on front page on that gg reddit is, "Cancelled my GB Sub over this weeks podcast." The people on twitter are being freaking nuts about it though, holy crap.
It is slightly amusing that a website founded by a guy who could be the poster boy for victims of corruption in gaming, is anti-GG.
Who gives a shit what they say?
Actions speak louder than words.
And I'm not saying this just for this specific case.
It's like when before Orth was fired, if he told us he was pro consumer we shouldn't give a shit either.
Which is a real bummer, because GG has distracted places like GAF from calling out and discussing *actual* issues in games media.
So what actions led to them losing their feminist status?

actually calls out how dumb this is or not.
Actually a better question would be what actions led them to be considered feminist?

You'll have to be more specific. Is the poor climate of gaming "journalism" not an actual problem to you?
