[GamersNexus] The Death of Affordable Computing | Tariffs Impact & Investigation

Are you still talking about tariffs?

That shit is over. Everything is back except for China.

Nothing has went up in price in the US. I don't think it's going to. What's it like living life as a doomer? Honestly good for you to anyone buying this but prices are the same in the US. What do you think is up? When do you think these magical new prices will start? Soon? 2 weeks?

The dollar is still weak, and has not recovered.

Go wander around your house and look for the "Made in China" label. Unless those China tariffs go away, once all the US warehouse inventory runs out, everything with that label is going to be more than twice as expensive as it used to be. You need a microwave that used to cost $400? Now it's $1000. That's not some imaginary number. That's what it's gonna cost, real-world, real-soon...

Think bigger. Just imagine how many "Made in the US" products rely on parts that are imported from Chine: chips, batteries, screws, led displays, resistors, the list is literally endless. Tesla manufactures the Cybertuck in Texas, but it relies on many parts from China: batteries, circuit boards, electronic chips, seats, dashboard materials, trims and more are imported from China. That production may come to a halt in a couple of weeks.

Apple supplier Pegatron has warned that U.S. stores could face "empty shelves" within two months due to ongoing uncertainty around tariffs imposed by the Trump administration.

Pegatron chairman T.H. Tung told Reuters that the on-again, off-again nature of the levies has created confusion for U.S. retailers and disrupted supply chain decisions.

"Within two months, shelves in the United States might resemble those in third-world countries, where people visit department stores and markets only to find empty shelves, all because everyone is waiting and seeing," Tung said.

The Taiwan-based manufacturer, which assembles MacBooks, iPads, and Apple Watches, explained that U.S. importers are hesitant to ramp up shipments during the current tariff pause because they're uncertain whether the 10% levy might eventually be repealed.

This comes after the Trump administration recently paused some tariffs targeting countries where Pegatron has manufacturing bases, including Vietnam, Indonesia, and India. However, a 10% levy on nearly all goods imported into the U.S. remains in effect.

Despite the challenges, Tung said that Pegatron won't alter its long-term manufacturing plans based on short-term tariff fluctuations.

"Just because Trump raises tariffs doesn't mean the rest of the world will do the same. Taiwanese contract manufacturers are sticking to their overseas plans," he said. "We won't immediately adjust our long-term plans just because of two or three months of tariff changes."

Last week, Apple CEO Tim Cook reportedly had a phone call with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick to explain how tariffs would cause iPhone prices to increase. Cook's efforts appeared to pay off when the Trump administration exempted iPhones, Macs, Apple Watches, iPads, and other electronics from the bulk of tariffs on Chinese goods.

However, the exemption may only be temporary. The day after the announcement, Trump stated that there was "no tariff exception" and that no one would be "getting off the hook," suggesting that Apple and other tech companies will be "moving to a different tariff bucket."

Apple has been diversifying its manufacturing locations away from China since Trump's first term, and has recently ramped up plans to build out its iPhone manufacturing base in India and manufacture U.S.-bound devices in the country by the end of 2026.

Ridiculous deal right now on newegg for $322, have to follow instructions to get the coupons and deals to stack.

AMD Ryzen 5 9600X
GIGABYTE B850M GAMING X WIFI6E AM5
G.SKILL RGB 32GB DDR5 memory
Patriot 500GB M.2 SSD
Cooler Master Hyper 212 RGB cooler
That is actually damn good. Throw in an inexpensive case and say 750w PSU plus 9600XT 16GB and you got a great PC for $1K (will need to get an inexpensive 2TB NVME for a $100 or so).

Yo I'm coming out at $1,285 with a 9070 xt. Now that I have a whole complete system left over I can sell it for $600-$650.

edit: oh I forgot the fans. Just got some. $1,315.

I am super tempted, but I want more than 16 cores and 9950x3d is $$$.

My planned upgrade was 8 cores, but this is a little more performance for less tdp and a lot less money plus the bonus junk. Seems like a good compromise.

Thoughts on 6 cores for gaming tho? Performance here looks a tad better than 5700x3d (8cores). Indicates much better single core performance which I figure at least balances out.

It would be fine with 9070xt, IMO. Something like Ryzen 9700 would be better in modern games or 7800x3d, but not a huge deal all in all.

Good deal, I almost bit on the 265k combo from a week or two ago but felt like even though it was a good value overall, I'd be kicking myself for not getting a better config for gaming. Today's deal also featured some good combos with X3D chips. I've been a PC gaming holdout for a long time, and quite frankly, the value STILL isn't there, but today was good enough to finally bite.

Hard to say if it's a momentary glut, a response to subdued demand, or the calm before the inflation storm. I hope we see some reasonable prices and inventory levels from here on out.
