Let's put this to bed finally: There are no US import tariffs on Videogame Consoles

How does that make sense for the US? PlayStation consoles aren't manufactured in the US, nor are their components bought there and shipped off to the manufacturing countries. I don't see a way for them to be impacted by the tariffs.
The US tarrifs the countries making these components = rising prices for the US citizen. These countries do not pay the tarrifs to the US unlike dumbasses like Trump claim. It's the US consumer that's getting fucked over first.

The price increases are permanent, even if a democratic president stops this tariff bullshittery. It's just more money for the corpos then.

As an european who follows US politics a lot, i wrote a book but then realised not only we cant discuss politics on gaf, but just as importantly, my opinion doesnt matter anyways, so just gonna say, gl to my US- bros, thats all ;)

If Sony is impacted by, let's say a 10% tariff, and they rise their prices accordingly, it's not 10% more money to Sony, it's a 10% tax that goes to the US gov and is paid by consumers.

I think in this case, its more like a 20% tariff, with US consumers carrying a 10% cost and the rest of the world subsidising the other 10%..... Which speaking as a resident outside the US is pretty shitty and its no wonder public opinion in what should be the US closest ally (or one of at least) is turning pretty toxic around the US...

Everything that goes into these consoles which are assembled in Taiwan, is made locally in mainland China. China is the lagest manufacturer of raw materials in the world. They are absolutely not importing anything from the US that finds its way into the final console.

So, no. US tariffs are not affecting Sony, MS or Nintendo games consoles.
I'm sure you don't know all the contract details of every tech hardware manufacturer, or even in the case of Sony, to make that statement.
Just a gut feeling.
