im 35 years old and ive played them all , simple games like doom or space marine 2 are perfect for chilling but when im really in the mood i need complex games , complex either in terms of story or game mechanics

I encountered for the first time in my life yesterday a game that I think I will not manage to play, Kill knight, it is way to complex for his own good.

On the other hand all other games are way to simple, even the more complex one in the end can be reduced to 2/3 steps to win.

Old style games: 2 buttons to press to do 20 different things in a game.
New style games: 20 buttons to press to do 2 different things in a game.

I agree.

Don't get me wrong, i am a big fan of complex games. I don't think games are too complex per se, just too complex for me to jump in at a later date. I will play a strategy game at release, but there is ZERO chance i would start playing Stellaris now. Would definitely play a sequel though. Same is true for multiplayer games. I love GaaS, i played Hots and when that died i would have like to keep playing a moba but dota and league have had so much stuff added over the years that i'm just not willing to spend 6 months just to learn the game.

I dont think games should change. Because when i play a game like that i absolutely love the constant content, but yeah, as an outsider, it sucks imo.

I just hate the process of learning new games in general. Even when i know i'd love a game, if i know the process of learning it is too time consuming, i just cant bother.

I understand where OP is coming from.

My kid discovered gaming for himself. Bought him Bugsnacks. Holy shit the game made for kids has multiple control schemes, tool specific controls etc. it was just way to much even for me to casually pick it up and play.

When I was a kid I played games like Sonic where you had two buttons to press and it was fine.

Major point why Minecraft is big with kids, it’s simple to control.

And to stay with Diablo 4, I played every Diablo game before it but have absolutely no clue how some aspects of D4 even work, half the mechanics are needlessly convoluted and simply a bad design.
