Games that keep drawing you back.

I have gotten my new PC recantly, and have found myself going back to old game's as well as new to playthrough again. And I noticed, these are games I have been drawn back to many times over in the past. I already played through Half Life again (partly because I went on to play Half Life 2 right after, a game I had constant problems with on my old PC). I have now however installed Max Payne and am playing through it again (which I must say still looks quite good). I plan to go through the sequal again after I beat the first too. Another game I wanna go back to is Deus Ex, and probably the Hitman 2 and Contracts.

I find it weird how all the games I find myself wanting to playthrough again are PC games. I mean it's not limited to PC, I wanna at some point play through MGS1 2 and 3 again.

Anyway though what games have this effect on the rest of GAF?

Age of Mythology

Dungeon Keeper 2

Painkiller

Katamari

Castlevania SoTN

FF Tactics

Einhander

Marvel vs. Capcom 2

Saturn Bomberman

Xenogears

Always rotating between FF2, 3, IX and X

Deus Ex. Greatest game ever, which forces me to play and beat it in a different manner about twice a year.

MGS3. I don't think I'll ever get tired of replaying that one.

Same goes for Metroid Prime, my most replayed game this gen.

Symphony of the Night as well.

Oh yeah, the original Legend of Zelda. Probably played through that one a bajillion times, still absolutely love it.

Diablo
LoZ: ALTTP
Secret of Mana

I am sure there are a bunch more I can't think of but those are the ones that pop right into my head.

Waverace series
Ridge Racer series
Burnout series
SSX series
Mx Vs ATV Unleashed series

Yoshi's Touch & Go (DS)

Virtua Tennis
Crazy Taxi
Jet Set Radio

Yeah, i'm a bit of a racing fan. :)

All 2D Mario's from Super Mario Bros to Yoshi's Island. I play through every single one like once every year.

F-Zero X

Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening

DoDonPachi and Battle Garegga.

Advance Wars.

R-Type 3 and R-Type Delta

Ridge Racer V

Thats about it.. I almost never replay story heavy games.

SSBM, any version of Pokemon, WWF No Mercy.

Edit: Those are the ones that see 300+ hours of gameplay, anyway. Games that still get 100+ are:

Tales of Symphonia (243+) - fourth favorite game ever
Star Ocean 2 (180+) - third favorite, would get more playtime except my data got corrupted, thus depressing me
Chrono Trigger/Final Fantasy VI (210+) - tie as fifth favorite
Advance Wars DS (130+) - sixth favorite; would have seen more playtime if the October-December 2005 lineup didn't cause me to buy literally a dozen other GBA/DS games
Advance Wars 2 (150+) - awesomeness
Animal Crossing WW (250+) - I can't say it's ever not been enjoyable, but I also can't say that its most enjoyable is anywhere close to the other games' most enjoyable, so despite the extensive playtime I can't list it above any of the others

Games I find myself able to constantly replay:

Suikoden II (and by extension Suikoden as well)
Final Fantasy Tactics
Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy VI
Chrono Trigger
Shining Force III
Phantasy Star IV
Secret of Mana
Tactics Ogre
Skies of Arcadia
Shining Force II

Fire Emblem 7 will probably work its way onto this list, too, but it's still too early to tell.

Gitaroo Man, Katamari Damacy, Ninja Gaiden (XBox), Dark Cloud 2, Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy IX, Terranigma, Super Castlevania IV, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

to name a few....

I pretty much only buy games I know I'll wanna play through again at some point.

The Zeldas.
Various RTSes, which tend to hold up pretty well on replays.

My biggest trips of nostalgia are still from point and click adventures though. Especially the LucasArts ones.

Smash Bros. Melee. That game not only draws me back, it regularly monopolizes my gaming time, causing me to not play brand new games until weeks later.

Monkey Ball...this one's about to do it again, I think, because Monkey Ball DS isn't doing it for me.

Never gets old. A giant landmark in videogaming, and still one of my favorites to play.

Lots of old 8/16-bit games draw me back to replay them, the Zeldas and Metroids especially, that can make you really think "what am I supposed to do next again?" much more so than, say, Mario or Sonic, where you know exactly where everything is and what to do without even really thinking about it.

civilization. any of em.

Same here...and for that matter, most great turn-based or pausable strategy games. Advance Wars, Europa Universalis 2/Hearts of Iron 2, and most of all, SID MEIER'S ALPHA CENTAURI are all games I play more or less regularly since their initial release. They're built for replayability.

I went and made a huge kickass list with kickass pictures, and then GAF was like LOL NO FU too many pictures.

It took a long time.

I'm sad.

Good topic.

In the realm of RPGs, Chrono Trigger and FF6 have that effect on me, although I need years to space these out, since they're quite time-consuming.

Sega arcade classics like Shinobi, Out Run, After Burner II, Space Harrier are simply timeless for me, and I will play these until the day I die.

Most good shooters are also like this. I go back to the good ones almost every year, if not more often than that (R-Type III, DDP, Radiant Silvergun, Ikaruga, Ordyne, etc.).

Good fighting games also bring me back year after year... hell, I even like a good nostalgic romp with SF2T every once in a while.

Panic Mode in Super Pang/Buster Bros. hooks me every couple years, too.
