SteamWorld Dig games are superb. You can start with 1 or 2 (which has superior graphics and gameplay). The games have a story, but it's not a very important one so playing SteamWorld Dig 1 isn't mandatory.

Edit: so I opened that video in another tab, and there's no background music or anything. No sounds for quite a while. And then the actual game starts - again, no bgm but there are sound effects. I was seriously confused what my computer is doing for a while until I realized what was going on. And kudos to OP for an original thread.
