Brand new engine and all :D (crow served to some).
Sounds good. I welcome the changes and I hope they get things polished up for release this year.

On the field, you'll hear the QB calling the plays and audibles and, yes, that actually is Peyton Manning's voice you hear calling that third audible in a row on a 2nd down and five situation with a 28 point lead; he's one of 18 NFL quarterbacks who lent their real voice to the game. You'll even see a picture-in-picture window pop up in the right hand corner of the screen during audible calls, to show how key players on the offense are reacting to the change in play. On the other side of the ball, the EA Sports team went to the trouble of recording the voices of defensive leaders like Ray Lewis, and you'll hear him call plays on defense as you go through the game as well.

Play calling looks a lot different in the 360 version of the game. Essentially, the Madden team has sought to give the player more options than ever when deciding on the correct play to call. You can still go by formation, or ask John Madden to suggest a play for you, but you'll also get a few new options: play type, ask coach, key player, and last five plays. Play type is just what it sounds like, plays organized by general type (such as fullback run, slot pass, etc.). Ask coach is a variation on the ask Madden option--instead you'll get play options specific to the situation on the field and run through a filter of your coach's real tendencies. For those who may not be too familiar with the nuts and bolts Xs and Os of the game, but know the Shaun Alexanders from the Justin Fargas's, the brand new key player play call option organizes your playbook according to the key skill positions on your team. On third and short if you want to get the ball to Cadillac Williams, all you'll need to do is pull up his set of plays and pick and choose accordingly. It's a pretty cool feature and one that puts your team's star players at the front and center. Finally, the last five plays option is an easy way to either review your last few plays to make sure you aren't repeating yourself, or an effective method for keeping up the pressure on your opponent with a quick strike offensive attack.
If you'd been wondering about it, we can confirm that Madden 06 for 360 will feature a franchise mode, one that in some ways is much deeper than its predecessor. For one thing, when simulating games, every play in every quarter in every game is fully logged. By scrolling through previous weeks' games, you can press down on the right thumbstick and get a massive amount of player, and team stats as well as detailed breakdowns of scoring summaries for any game you wish. For players who love spending time poring over stats and scouting opponents, this feature should be right up your alley.
Overall though, the game seems like it was still running a bit on the slow side, however. The running game especially seemed to get things chugging a bit. Still, with more development to go, there's still time to iron these issues out in time for the release.

I am pumped for tree sitty Madden! Sounds fantastic!

In terms of play and overall graphics, Madden is shaping up slowly but surely. Some graphical highlights--such as detailed and accurate facial modeling for players like
worst QB in the universe Brett Favre and
Brian Urlacher--were impressive.

Show me next gen LACH!!!!! :D

No Michaels, No Madden, NO SALE!!!!!!

How do you call a game Madden football and take him out. Oh big whoop they have the little button to "Ask Madden" when making a play call... thats about it.

Sounds good. Getting rid of Madden and Michaels' commentary has to be just about the best feature ever added to Madden, or any sports game. They should list it on the front of the dvd case as a major selling point.

I'm actually a little surprised they re-newed the contract with Madden. The guy has certainly fallen out of favor with football fans over the past few years, and his commentary has gotten stale.

Still, I'd venture to guess that there are a number of Madden fans (of the game) who have no idea who the guy is. The last deal was just to continue slapping his name on the product. :lol

Bah,I seen they had a vid up,and it's just a damn FG,wtf -_-

I must say though, the rain vid at IGN looked fuckin amazing :D Too bad the people playing sucked balls :|

Welcome back to Madden NFL 06 for the Xbox 360. By now, you have probably seen a handful of screens released at the X05 event (where a recent build of Madden is playable by the way). Those four shots were taken from the game in various stages of development, but they are all screens from the game engine, and as you can see we're making great progress with the game, especially with lighting, time of day and weather. We still have some tuning to do and some bugs to fix, but the game is looking really amazing now. We are also very hard at work on the game play, and each day I play it and see dozens of new animations in the game. We wanted to release a few more screens to you, the fan sites, and this time we released one exclusive screen to three different sites. As before, these are ultra-high resolution, so I encourage you to download them in their full glory.

This shot of a Bengals receiver is a great example of the level of detail of the players and graphics in the game. The helmet, jersey, gloves and even this generic face (we didn't get to scan Houshmandzadeh) are all extremely detailed...go ahead and zoom in for a closer look. However, the coolest part of this screen shot is that it was taken the day that are eye tracking was tuned in the game. Notice how his eyes are not staring straight ahead, this year in Madden for the Xbox 360 you will notice full head and eye tracking which really helps bring these players to life in a new way.

Enjoy the new screen, and look for more assets in the weeks to come. I've got to get back to work and help get this game complete, see you on the Xbox 360 with Madden NFL 06.

The EA PR campaign for this game is crazy.

They keep feeding us one damn shot at a time. I want direct feed this is driving me crazy! I guess their PR campaign is working so far making me want to come back for more. :(

what happened to the grass they've shown in that target-render-pic? i can't see it in the new madden-screenshots but they've got much better looking grass in FIFA.

Awesome.

Get that framerate sorted EA and we are good to go.

The stadiums do indeed look gorgeous. Mad props to nathken and crew.

Sorry, been working twelves since sunday, so I'm trying to catch up on everything.

no its just that IGN had mistakingly put that vid under the eagles in the rain caption but only insiders could see it. I remember a couple people in one of the other threads looking for someone to host it since it wasnt available for non-insiders

It's really starting to look great! The one major improvement that could have added a lot would be grass of some sort (similar to what was shown in the Fifa 360 shots).

Madden 360 video interview with much more gameplay footage!!
Madden at Gamespot

Just watched the video and wow, if they clean up all the loose ends (frame rate, hiccups, animations) I will not leave the house come this winter.

I hope they include a create-a-player mode.

Fucking agreed. Looks goddamn awesome IMO. Just needs some polish.

The guys on the sidelines look pretty lame in that pic with the coach in it also, I wish they could make em crowd the sideline like a real team instead of all standing in the same position 5 feet apart from eachother. It looks pretty good though, I'm sure everything will be sorted out at least by next year. No need for me to complain about anything because I don't really plan on buying this anyways. It looks like a good start for the next gen Madden games though.

I want to get back home from this hotel soooo bad so that I can check out these Movies... stupid 56 k... cant wait for this sexy season

exactly

Madden 360 is shaping up pretty nicely, but goddamnit, it's next gen- pack those fucking sidelines! What's the point of juicing up the realism in every other category when you are going to add less people on the sidelines than a special education flag football game?

There is absolutely no self shadowing (something that 2K5 on the Xbox had!) and it would be really appropriate in those shots (the lighting warrents it).

I don't know what goes through the art director's head sometimes...

The stadiums are fan-fucking-tastic though!
