Gamespot reviews Resident Evil Outbreak File 2.

Gamespot's Brad Shoemaker reviewed Outbreak 2 and deemed it a "fair" :lol 6.6

In other words, the game sucks compared to RE4, but as the review stated, if you enjoyed RE:Outbreak 1 (all 3 of you) than you'll enjoy Outbreak 2 as well.

And I have a chilling feeling in the back of my head that this is "OLD'ed'd"

I had a friend who is a big RE fan and dug Outbreak. Anyone here played it online?

What, this game doesn't even support keyboard or voice chat via headset? No excuse for that...

But... but... ZOMBIE ELEPHANTS!!!

Damn. Your friend must be a hardcore RE fan to like this game....

Bet ya can't do that in RE4.

Looks like most Americans feel the way I do about this game. It's alright if you liked Outbreak 1, otherwise stay away.

Exactly. If only the damn thing just had voice chat.... As is you have to know the level inside and out before you start it to have any fun.

MARK! MARK!
CINDY.
COME OVER HERE. COME HERE. COME OVER- :SMASH:

The first Outbreak was not that bad. Granted I never played it online and didn't pay $50, I liked it a bit. The only thing that bothered me was the not so helpful, bitch of the CPU that ran away, stealing my items, the bad load times and the repetitive one liners.

I remember some hardcore Sony afficionado in one of the original Outbreak pic threads saying its visuals were very close to the then unreleased RE4. :lol I must find out who it was, as it is someone well known here.

my 1up review isn't up yet, BUT I DO NOT LIKE THIS GAME VERY MUCH.

it has pretty graphics and whoever decided not to put chat in the sequel after the first game deserves a kick in the balls.

otherwise it's just by the book olden-times RE. yawn.

i just got it about 2 weeks ago when the 10$ EB deal was posted here. best 10$ ive spent all year. i love it. (warning: i love the RE series).

offline is pretty cool, but the co-op AI is hit and miss. there are a TON of unlockables and secrets to find, if you're into that kind of thing. its short, only 5 levels, all easily completed in under an hour to 15 min, if you know the route.

online is awesome. i like online co-op as it is, so that helps. and ive actually met some really cool players/people this late in the games life. it really reminds me of PSO's challenge mode. 4 player co-op, item management/sharing, timed runs for rank, etc.

you can chat in the game room before hand to lay out some sort of plan, or just wing it.

not only do i feel like ingame chat would kind of ruin it, i also dont think that you need to be standing around chatting when you should be completeing objectives, killing baddies, helping out teammates etc. the games only last so long. once you know the route on the difficulty you are playing on 9i caught on pretty quick in file 1), you really should just be doing your job: picking locks, bashing down doors, healing teammates, retrieving items, solving puzzles, etc. -and try to kick the level's ass.

it would really almost feel like cheating to be able to communicate exactly what you want to say to a teammate, as wierd as that sounds. (might sounds like damage controll, but it seems to make perfect sense to me).

im buying it. :)

I wonder if Capcom will bother to put the online mode in the PAL version this time around...

Why release an online game and then take out the online mode? :lol

Outbreak seems like a really killer concept. I'd be all over it if there was an XBox Live version (PS2 one doesn't support headsets if I recall).

The PS2 version doesn't support the keyboard either, it has nothing to do with the PS2, this is actually how Capcom wants it to play.

That's a feature I've been asking for in an RE game for quite sometime. You can't even do that in RE4...

I played the first game by chatting over AIM ... which, in retrospect, was rather silly.

No chat, no sale.

Too bad really. Co-op online, was pretty damn fun.

Woah dude. I hate Resident Evil...A LOT.

But I think you over-did it with the 4.5. I think you jumped on the "hate RE Outbreak" hype bandwagon or something.

I swear, if 1up gave Nanbreaker a high score....>_<

The game is more of a 6.0-7.0

The throughback to RE classic gameplay, plus awesome sound, CG and graphics warrent this game at least more than 5.0 dude >_<

I agree there about 500 other games to get before this, but 4.5?? Holy shit?!

:D

Actually the visuals from the first OutBreak are some of the best on the PS2 ---- now that I pop it in, it really isn't far off from RE4 ..... but that might be that there's more diversity in the environments and art-direction.
...Capcom's art-team has some amazing tallent...

The lack of chat, and simple commands of the first OutBreak were what attracted me to the game ---- I love the concept of online, but I can only handle communication with dickwads telling me how 'high' they are for so damn long ....... LIVE is the worst, when you get some chatterbox whos balls haven't dropped seeking acceptance from his ineffectual parents.

The load-times are a bitch ... but the long senarios are damn fun co-op

at 1up, 5.0 is meant to be average. so there you go. hell, it got a worse score in OPM... =)

nothing i can control.

quoth: "not only do i feel like ingame chat would kind of ruin it, i also dont think that you need to be standing around chatting when you should be completeing objectives, killing baddies, helping out teammates etc."

Voice chat = no waiting around.

:lol Good point.

I do think voice chat should be restricted to when they're in the same room though. Chatting when they're ten rooms apart would be asking for too much (unless an item spot were occupied by a walkie talkie).

Outbreak File 3 please.

yup good point.

still dont care much. i liked the system in the first one, so i dont see myself having much of a problem with no voice chat in this one.

should be picking it up tomorrow.

it's worth noting that the low score -- at least in my case -- isn't just because of the bad online implementation. it's also because it's just more of the same boring RE we've been playing for years. i was never a huge fan, but at this point it's putting me to fucking sleep.

Especially given that RE4 manages to preserve what makes RE fun while dumping what makes it early-PSX-like.

yeah, i mean, even without RE4, there's clearly a lot of early PS1-era design baggage in these games that's simply archaic and tedious at this point.

it plays better than Outbreak 1.

i really like the new move & shoot mechanics. it works well and feels very right.

ive been having a blast with File 2 for the last 2 days.

the new Showdown and Elimination modes are awesome too. you would like them CVX. :) (Elimination is somewhat similar to Leech Hunter! you just get to unload on enemies for the whole scenario.)

so far im not regretting the purchase in the least.
