GameSpy Advent Rising Review

The problem isn't the game's lack of epic battles... it's all the technical shortcomings and lack of polish that keeps it from being great. Still, I have to disagree with Ben Turner... the story and cutscenes, while certainly not MGS3 level direction, aren't much worse than the cutscenes you saw in Halo or Halo 2.

Developer over at Majescogames:

Advent has so much content that the retail version has to be a dual-layered dvd. This is awesome for you because we crammed in a ton of stuff. This is bad for reviewers because Microsoft is the only place that burns these special dual-layered dvdÂ’s and then sends them straight to manufacturing. Those disks are what you can buy today. Review builds obviously have to go out before today, so reviews get a 2 disk version of the game that does run a little slower than the retail version.
:lol

I too would laugh at that,

a Dual Layer disc is slower is it not?

:lol I was talking about the general direction of the cutscenes, not really the graphics or the character designs, etc.

I seem to recall someone saying that you were giving very favorable impressions of the game. Despite all the technical shortcomings, was the game still enjoyable or do they effect the game enough to kill "teh fun!"

I wouldn't say my impressions were "very favorable."

Definitely a pleasant surprise since the game was so continually awful at every showing.

Still, I've been able to get to the end of the game by impetus of the pacing and gameplay alone... more than I can say about a lot of games.

Shortcomings aplenty... but fun? Yeah.

I remember reading some comments made on the IGN Boards by one of the artists (VIP, as IGN would have it), where he basically flamed Bungie's art team. In retrospect, that's pretty humorous
