GameStop declares the end of the console wars

All of these feelings and no way to express them....but wait....there is one way:

I've always felt this way about this, if Playstation had owned Minecraft, Minecraft would've been exclusive to Playstation not multiplatform as how Microsoft had it. Sony always played to win and dominate their competition. Microsoft unfortunately didn't play this way. It was almost like Bill Gates was some sort of pacifist, like why didn't he play to dominate the competition?

And I remember when Microsoft let Bungie go, I remember thinking Microsoft should have never done that. I remember the founders of Bungie said they would leave Bungie if Microsoft didn't let Bungie go and so Microsoft let Bungie go. I remember thinking that instead Microsoft should've offered them a shit ton of money to stay and should've told them they could build whatever game they want but no sorry we're not letting go of Bungie and if the founders left then oh well (and guess what the founders all left Bungie anyway). And what happened there, did Bungie buy themselves out from Microsoft? I mean Microsoft owned Bungie right?

Playstation would have never let Minecraft be multiplatform if they had owned it. Playstation would have never let Bungie go. Playstation played to win and to dominate.

It seems Bill Gates was some kind of pacifist who wasn't ruthless enough. If I had been in charge of Microsoft I would've been ruthless to dominate Sony and win the console wars. Ultimate it was USA vs. Japan and it seems Japan won. USA won WW2 but lost the console wars to Japan. Cause Bill Gates had to be pacifist. You know who chose the Indian to run Microsoft, yup that was Bill Gates. He's a pacifist. He's a left wing liberal, he's got the woke mind virus in his head.

And building up a solid first party base, I mean that should've been a no brainer Bill Gates.

Great just great. It really was USA vs. Japan in the console wars and Japan won. I traded in my PS2 for an xbox cause of Halo and I've been an xbox player ever since.

If I had been in charge of Microsoft, Minecraft would've been Xbox only and I would've never released owership of Bungie either, I would have been ruthless so I could defeat Sony. In my eyes I've always seen USA vs Japan when it comes to Xbox vs Playstation.

Man as much as right wingers bitched and moaned about no politics in videogames, suddenly Grummz and the rest of their fanbase is cheering on about this. Also Marty is just eh.

I don't think Bill Gates cares about gaming. He cares about reducing the population and poisoning everyone via vaccines.

Honestly, MS is big enough that I don't really think that losing the "console wars" (I fucking hate that term) really matters to them. It's a tax write-off.

At some point, they figured out that gaming, or at least, console gaming and console manufacturing, wasn't a sustainable or big enough income stream compared to their other income streams.

This is not out-of-character behavior for MS - they have a history of entering hardware markets and leaving rather abruptly. Look at the Zune and the Windows Phone. Look at Windows tablets, too. I guess the Surface is still kicking around, but it's not really a serious contender compared to Apple/Android.

I think Marty is running for office. So he is trying to score some points.

This isn't "politics in videogames" compared to what the left has done over the last decade.

This is social media meme fun.

It's not the same as what left-wing loons have done for the past decade+

I like Joe's reviews but he is tone deaf. A hispanic who doesn't barely speak the language and doesn't even know what it's like to migrate legally and do things right. His feelings outweigh the rationality. Enforcing the laws on the books is a bad thing according to lots of democrats. And I migrated to the states LEGALLY and had to wait.

I went to my local Gamestop this weekend to trade in a PS5 fat. I noticed as soon as I walked in it smelled like homeless person. I am pretty sure the stank was coming from the gamestop employee that was working there.

He did give me $305 in store credit but I have no idea what to buy with it since I don't even have discount reader.

They do not think so themselves. So, no.

Welcome back to Next-Gen Console Watch. This week Daemon, Max, Logan, and Ryan discuss Halo coming to PlayStation and what seems to be the end of Xbox having any notable exclusives going forward. When you combine this with Microsoft's current messaging that everything is an Xbox, the fact they let someone else make the first Xbox handheld, and heavy hints from leadership that the next Xbox console will basically be a PC that can play a bunch of PlayStation games, it kind of looks like Xbox is just done competing with Sony on a hardware level. Is this the end of an era? Are the console wars actually over?

Dude it's not that deep, he couldn't do it because the original contract with Mojang prohibited him from doing so, he even got frustrated about it and wanted to make Minecraft Dungeons exclusive.

From Heisenberg007 Heisenberg007 's excellent post:

#19 — Microsoft wanted to make Minecraft Dungeons exclusive to Xbox

Phil's internal email, read in court, showed that he was "frustrated" that Minecraft Dungeons is multiplatform because of the original contract.

He asked his team to "find ways" to make it exclusive.

Xbox CMO emails Phil, "This [Minecraft Dungeons] should be exclusive."

Phil replied, "I agree."

GameStop as usual is wrong. The console wars started long before the 6th generation.
As much as I hate to give GameStop any credit at all.

PlayStation vs Xbox was the last real console rivalry so the last real war so everyone posting stuff like this is missing the point more then GameStop would be.

Nintendo hasn't involved themselves in any "wars" in a long time so if the "war" between Sony and Microsoft is over then the console wars is over for now and GameStop is technically not wrong.

GameStop implied console wars period (not between any specific platforms) began in the 6th generation. That is what they said. They were factually, objectively, without question incorrect. If GameStop had said "the PlayStation VS Xbox wars began in the 6th generation" then that would have been an accurate statement. But they didn't say that, even though you chose to infer they did.

They said "past two decades"
What other console war has been fought since 2005?

Ah, fair enough, I see your point now. GameStop could have described this more clearly, but they're not entirely wrong within that specific context.
Yeah, in their wording they aren't wrong but I get why people are confused.

Maybe a more interesting question is what is the most important console war of all time? I still think it's PlayStation versus Xbox personally

I just saw that defeat the flood/join ice shit this morning. What the fuck was that. I don't even know what to say.

The only thing entertaining about this for me are the people getting mad over some memes riffing on a post.

If they didn't get mad, the memes would already be over, and enough of the people getting mad had no difficulty either ignoring or liking the posts drenching Halo in rainbows to sell DLC skins.

I'm sure some people will try to continue the console war, but this is a sign that it's getting dumber to bother. Just enjoy the games.

Halo, the Xbox crown jewel franchise, is coming to PlayStation for the first time. Does this mean the console wars are finally over, and Xbox has thrown in the towel? Or is the console market just evolving, and the Platform Wars are the new battleground? Tam and Lucy discuss.

I don't understand they bought it, they owned it, how couldn't they make it exclusive?
