If you opened it, no. But I guess you could make it look like you never did open it and return it, as long as it hasn't been like a month since you bought it.
Is it new? If so, then no. They will tell you you can trade it in. There are ways around this but you have to be nice the whole time, the manager has to be in a good mood, and other such stars have to be in alignment.

If you can get past the repackaging phase, a good line to use would be "I purchased this as a gift and it turned out the child already had one so I was wondering if I could exchange it for something else". Beforehand, on a piece of paper write down the names of whatever it is you are planning to buy instead and go "I asked him what he wanted just to be safe, so can you tell me if you have....." and read from the list.
