AMD has been making APU for few years now.

Also the design challenge is Xbone only, since no one put 32MB ESRAM on CPU die before.
 
I guess this means Sony got some good news on production. Gamestop has said they'll take every PS4 they can ship them. I just hope this doesn't backfire and they'll a super long PS4 wait list

Do you know, or anyone for that matter, whether or not there's an option to get an extended warranty on Amazon? I'm wanting to do this thing, but not without adding that on to ease my mind.
 
Am I the only one who still likes to "hunt" for consoles around launch? Going from store to store asking about shipments and rumors and getting tips for where to look/when to come back? Pre-ordering takes a little bit of the fun out for me.

You should be able to get one directly from Sony but it might be pricey. Do they work out though, they usually only last for a year or 2 the most and your system usually craps out right after the warranty period.

I went after the launch PS4 about a week ago and the option was there at the time and I don't see it anymore. I've always done it with BB in the past and it's saved me a ton of money, having two 360's go tits up. An extra 50 or 60 bucks to gimme peace of mind is no big deal for me. But do you mean after I order it and have it, I can do the extended warranty?

I actually did that for the Wii, took a week until I luckily got one when the shipment just happened to come in. I never want that to happen again, but I admit it was fun hunting.

But now I preorder any hardware
 
As I said in another thread. I really fear that many people on Amazon WONT be getting their console on release date, despite their order saying so. Almost seems too good to be true how many allotments they are getting.
 
I read this as two different things, which are probably both true simultaneously since they're not necessarily mutually exclusive.

1) Sony is going to have a metric fuckload of systems available at or near launch, quite possibly an unprecedented rollout in terms of raw numbers.

2) They're deliberately driving up preorders to create a sense of scarcity post-launch. If a ton of people preorder and a lot of them at still waiting for their machines weeks or months after launch, it creates the appearance that the machine is such a hot item it can't even stay on store shelves long enough for everyone to buy it. This is a classic Nintendo move.

I will be so pissed if I don't get mine on launch. I'll just cancel my order and be calling best buy and walmart every day to see if they got any in. Did that for the Wii and got one within a week of launch.

GT would have made Europe sales skyrocket. It is an incredibly powerful franchise in Europe. And winning Europe so early would be a huge victory for Sony. Look up on GT's sales decomposed by region. EU sales are huge.

WWS is World Wide Studios, Sony's game publishing armed. :P

If Sony is truly going to overshadow the Xbox One with their PS4 shipments that'd be awesome. You'd be surprised at how many sales are made because a system is not available and a person is sad and wants a system right away.

Saw so much of this on ps3 launch day. People disappointed that they couldn't get their hands on a ps3, ended up buying a 360 instead.
 
I'm so glad I have a Launch Edition pre-order from Amazon in the books. Thank you based E3, thank you based Amazon, thank you based Sony. I will enjoy no hassle and having my shit on launch day.

I can see that happening with it being $100 cheaper and having all the major games that will get marketing blitzes this holiday (COD, Battlefield, Watch Dogs).

Now, if they launch end of October too...hoo boy. I bet we'll get a date at Gamescom.
 
both are using custom chips, yes, but Sony's chip is more traditional, and AMD has that style set manufacturing with no weird parts to add to the chip...however,

the Xbox One cpu & gpu are similar but they added the embedded ram on the die which- apparently- is causing yield problems. thus the issue with supply rumors/downclock gpu rumors
 
Also, I think it is a pretty scummy move by Amazon to put the Launch day PS4 behind a bunch of bundles that raise the price by $60-100 while the $399 is out of stock and they only have the standard one available.

Sony should stamp that shit out.
 
Sony is playing it out EXACTLY like the 360 did last time... I expect the only limitation for PS4 to launch in October at this point is the software. You can have a system ready to roll, but if the software falls behind it won't matter. Infamous already has...

OTOH, it looks like the PS4 will have 3-4 times the units available this Fall than the Xbone. If it does, the race is over before it even starts - just like it was last time. The 360 had a HUGE lead on the PS3 initially, and Sony will do whatever they can to get pole position this time. They have done everything right so far, and I am loving focused Sony. The only thing they need at this time is a killer AP. Perhaps we will see it at the European show.

Announced? or .. Misundestood statement.
 
October is a RUMOR... My MS friends are the ones who gave me that, and I've seen it corroborated elsewhere. Personally, I don't think the software will be ready in October.

I work with Network Infrastructure sales for a living, and recently my friend who has Sony as a client had a VERY good year. I think Sony is a LOT more ready than many here think. This isn't a typical, custom-made gaming system manufactured in Japan.

He's saying the only reason he can say that the PS4 won't launch in October is software. If the software is ready, the PS4 theoretically can be launched in October.

So not announced or misunderstood statement, just speculation
 
If sony is smart they play the launch date just like they played DRM. Wait for microsoft to make the first move and then capitalize on it. If Microsoft launches in late November they don't need to rush for october (rushing more in terms of software)... they can still get a week or two on them.



But given the disparity in units I think it's safe to assume that Sony will be ready to launch whenever they need to.

Here's the interesting bit. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but.. usually the software is done in advance, and is waiting for marketing, packaging, distribution, ..etc., then release date.

I wonder if they could do digital releases of titles prior to the retail releases to bump the release dates of the initial titles up to release the system earlier. I mean.. theoretically, it's possible, even though it might be a giant FY bomb in retailer eyes. Although.... retailers aren't really making much on new software sales anyhow, so.. I'm not entirely sure about that either.
