Gamestop: We don't have enough to fill pre-orders!

So those with a PS3 preorder at EB might be right next to me in line at Walmart as well. That stinks for all the gamers. In the end, EB wins. Tax free loan for them.

Not in the video game industry. EB/Gamestop SELL MORE SYSTEMS than all of those stores. They are the #1 destination for day 1 hardcore gamers. Bar none. It's not even close.

Best Buy won't be getting more PS3s than EB/Gamestop?

GameStop will give those unfortunate customers (as well as unfortunate employees) a free used game or DVD valued at $19.99 or less* when they eventually wind up purchasing the system.

*(Offer Expires Nov. 18, 2006)

:lol J/K

Motherf*cker!

I already paid mine in full ($525.00) that Tuesday morning on October 10. All I know is that I better receive my system day one ahead of any shmuck who decides to show up and didn't preorder a system.

Well its not like people are going to go out and buy another system when they can't get the PS3 at that point. If they can get the pre orders filled by Christmas as they say then all is well.

I doubt that. I can see people (not all by any means though) buying a Wii or 360 instead because they can't get their hands on a PS3.

That doesn't mean they won't get a PS3 later of course.

I dont get why companies do this shit. Delay the damn thing till your sure you have enough units to ship.

Well...here's hoping I get mine this Friday. :(

You're assuming people will act like gaffers.

I'm assuming that people who've saved up 500-600 dollars and have waited months aren't going to ahve much of a problem waiting a couple more weeks to get their pre order filled instead of just deciding to suddenly skip out on the system they've been waiting for. If you've waited that long and saved that amount of money you aren't going to say "Well I can't wait another 2-3 weeks for the system i've been wanting, I think i'll buy this system and not be able to get the one I really wanted for even longer".

This is the perfect time for Microsoft to strike and try to get the retailers to push in-stock 360's as an alternative.

ChrisAllenFiz said:
Of course it is. They could have waited till they actually got them. They could have learned from360 launch. They did neither.

Sony produces the crappiest launch supply ever and people blame the retailer. I guess....

This is just BS. I'm #11 out of 16, so I may be getting pushed back. But I already paid in full for my PS3. /sigh.

I don't get why Sony (and MS/Nintendo for that matter) refuses to give GS/EB more systems for launch. I mean, they're basically a monopoly in specialty video game retailing. All the other major chain stores should get SOME, but not MOST of the shipment. It's not like people don't know or shop at EB/GS for their video games. Absolutely ridiculous.

If I get call about not getting a PS3 at launch, I'll just ask for my money back and camp out at Walmart, Target, or BB. Screw EB.

What makes you think it's only going to be a "couple more weeks"?

...with a modest expectation of eight units per store in most cases. Now it appears the largest gaming specialty chain in North America won't be receiving even that many systems.

This is almost hard to believe. eBay prices are going to be sick.

well they sold pre orders without knowing how many they'd have?

GS was waiting for Sony to give them a good, solid allocation number before they started preorders. If this is true, then it sounds like either Sony lied to GS and overinflated their allocation, or GS is going to pull the screwjob of the millenium on GameStop/EBGames.com with the double-mortgage payment bundle....

I just got off the phone with my local EB. His first comment was... damn that stuff hits the online news sites fast!

Anyway he confirmed that they had a conference call today where they were given the news. He said they'll be getting their allocations tonight and making phone calls tomorrow early afternoon... <sigh>

As a lame aside he then said I know that whomever is going to have to wait our company is going to give them something generous I don't know if the news item had that. I responded yeah it says a used game or dvd... he was like well it might be more special than that.

Whatever.

If you read that article they say they believe they'll be able to get their pre orders filled before Christmas. So it'd be a few weeks.

Huh...I find that hard to believe EB/Gamestop sell more systems than those other stores. Best Buy has a large volume of retail sales. And of course Wal-Mart is the titan of retail.

Come to think of it, I don't know how retail for video game systems actual works. I know for clothing lines in department stores the brand names pay rent for the retail space to sell their clothes. How much (if at all) Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony have to pay to have a retail presence is unknown to me.

The Sunday Best Buy ad claimed a minimum of 26 PS3s per store (20 60GB, 6 20GB). How can GS/EB fail to deliver their preorders?

I don't think they even know the order...

My store's manager wrote down each person's order that morning AND typed it into their computer which order we all were. They know the order for sure... at least with the store I went to.

I was 5th in line of 16.
But probably at 8th since the manager said they only have 13(2 for employee and 1 for his friend).

To think all this time I thought I was guaranteed a launch unit on Friday =(

"Would you like to purchase an Xbox 360 and three games for the price of two?"

yeah but Gamestop sucks at estimating.

Well if a local best buy near me is not allowing camping and the EB f*cks me maybe I'll just hit the Best Buy that morning.

Gitaroo when did they update their page?

Due to the high demand and limited availability of the PlayStation 3 system, we will begin offering online bundles only after our initial in-store pre-orders are filled, which is anticipated before Christmas. We will update this page when new information is available.

Wow. And to be even somewhat fair, they only took extremely small amounts of preorders, and they're not even getting that? Jesus. WTF is Sony doing? If GS/EB are getting their numbers cut, what does that bode for the supposed 400k launch supply?

Also it would be bedlam if they took no preorders, since a lot of stores are in malls and don't really allow for lining up ahead of time; it would be a mad rush to get to the store, I see people getting hurt :lol

Edit: Also to be fair on Gamestop's part, they covered their asses totally by making sure everyone knew that the preorder did NOT guarantee you a unit at launch, just a spot in line.

So not only are there gonna be shortages but since there are two kinds of SKU units, some people may have to settle on the HD or non-HD units I guess.

I'm a skeptic at heart. Show me, don't tell me is my motto. People thought they would be able to fill pre-orders as well. Nothing is set in stone. I would assume the worst so I wouldn't be disappointed personally.

Hopefully they will indeed get them before Xmas.

My mate's got a Christmas job at the Online Woolworths call centre, he's at uni. In the catalogue they've sent out it has PS3 British launch as November 17th, he says kids and parents are calling him all day, the parents aren't too bad but the kids call him a Liar and threaten to sue Woolworths when he tells them it's not coming out!! Kids these days.

This basically kills all Gamestop/EB preorder auctions for PS3's on Ebay.

Why would anyone bid on those auctions now? :lol

400k is more then 300k

A. We'll see if it is 400K.
B. We'll see if they replenish like they said they would.

Just saying. I understand the anger at expecting to get something day one and not getting it. But putting things in context if a retailer says you're going to get 8 and they can't even fulfill that low number then that speaks volumes about supply problems to me.

This is why I decided to wait until the week after launch :D

Thank God I don't work at EB/GS. Those guys are gonna get pummeled.

Yeah I just talked to a friend who is asst mgr at an EB... to say he sounded unhappy was an understatement. He's not looking forward to facing the customer's wrath tomorrow once the calls start.

There were people camping the Germantown Best Buy for 360 so I don't see why they'd stop it this year.

You know the Circuit City on the Pike is one of the ones getting 100 units and doing the midnight launch right?
