Gamexplain Explains the Joy-Con Desyncing Problem

They have installed the patch, but people who had the problem claim that after installing the patch, if you reboot AGAIN , the problem is fixed.

EG article says they just installed the patch.

Also the console is already out in AU and NZ.

Interesting. Link to the article?

This is pretty exciting! If this is accurate it was almost a good move for them to not talk about it? It was a big deal for a day, then the focus shifted rather than people latching on to an offical PR or article, then kind of fizzled. Now if it's fixed most consumers won't even know it was ever a thing.

But, ethically, they probably should have clarified? I feel like it sounds like I'm condoning a "if you don't acknowledge the problem it will go away," which I'm not.

Wait did Eurogamer get theirs fixed or not?

No, but anecdotal findings indicate that you have to reset the system for the fix to be applied---a detail that wasn't mentioned in the EG update on the patch---so people are speculating whether or not EG's results are representative.

Everyone saying this has not posted receipts so until I see them it just sounds like damage control to me

And there are people on twitter that bitched and moaned because they had the glitch, and now they dont have it anymore.

Reset or restart the system ? I think eg did a restart

The claimed fix is to install the patch and then reboot AGAIN with the joycons docked.
Now go and read the article.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/d...y-cons-tested-are-there-really-de-sync-issues

UPDATE 2/3/17 4:00pm: The Nintendo Switch's day one system update has launched, and there are reports online that installing the patch with the Joy-Cons attached updates the firmware on the controllers, resolving the de-sync issues. Is this really the case? Unfortunately not. We've updated our console with controllers attached and re-run the battery of tests detailed below. In all cases, the range and consistency of the connection of each Joy-Con remains the same, and the left controller still has demonstrably weaker range than the right. Eurogamer has contacted Nintendo several times now concerning this issue, and we still await a reply.

Is there a newer article? This says they still have it.

Nintendo really needs to get public with this. They thought the 3DS returns were bad, just wait until people are wondering why their controllers don't seem to work.

Well, by all indications the Joy-Cons work and they fixed the frame rate issues in Breath of the Wild, so count me back on this crazy train.

edit: Aw, shit, casey_contra. Why you gotta do me like this?

that is their latest update, however, they refuse to say whether they updated the console with the joycons attached and then rebooted which is what several people have claimed actually applies the fix to the joycons (the people claiming this also reported on connectivity issues prior to the patch)

also one of the eurogamer writers is being a douchebag about it on twitter and not giving up answers, i assume because he didn't actually reboot it and doesnt want to look stupid

Umm whose controllers aren't working? People have it in Japan and Australia and nobody is complaining online. Just because a handful of people have problems doesn't mean it's a big issue.

Yeah the guy on twitter representing Eurogamer comes off as an ass and doesn't talk straight when he was asked if they rebooted.

Yep, this is from earlier today. It's March 2nd, they just do day and date in a different order in EU. This is the latest info from them after downloading the patch.

Oh wait what? I totally missed that. I thought he said he rebooted with JCs attached.

Where in that article do you read that they rebooted the switch after the patch???

I figured this meant they rebooted since I figured when you download a firmware update it makes you reboot, since I think it did with Wii U and 3DS.

first i heard of this, link please?

Disable images on GAF before clicking if you don't want Zelda spoilers, unsure if they're fixed now but there was a spoilery gif in there earlier.

The fact that he is being an ass makes me think that they messed up and now they think they would look stupid if they say they did it wrong.

no mention of rebooting after the update

I can't believe there is still no clear answer for this

GameXplain I expected them to be on top of this atleast after so many detailed Switch videos

But the patch is installed after the reboot . During that reboot the old firmware is still on the switch.

Thats why once you install the new firmware , the joy cons get updated during the next reboot.

The funny part is nobody in the media is commenting on the joycon synch situation at all. Lol what happened to Gamexplain??? You'd think atleast they would make an update or somebody else in the media who has trouble (other than Eurogamer).

Gotcha. So what I need to do is download the patch, install, restart, turn off the console completely with the Joy-Con attached, then power it up again?

I think I'm getting a little caught up with rebooting vs. restarting...

I think we just need Gamexplain to revisit this lol.

Thats the fix that is supposed to fix the joy con problem. But understan that the new fw is installed after the first reboot.

How is everyone playing if the left joycon is broken? Two right joycons?

You do know that nothing has been reported as "broken" right? It's more like, the left joycon has input lag on occasion, like according to Jose from IGN it happened twice in 20 hours of Zelda.

And anyway none of these issues happen in handheld mode or when sitting closer than 6-10 feet away from the console.

Its entirely possible that people who were having actual problems like dropping signals during regular use have had those problems fixed, and DFs testing that at >10 feet away a completely obstructed joycon drops signals are both true.

If 'regular use' problems are gone, but 'tested to extremes' use cases still have problems, overall there's basically no problem unless you're planning on being in one of those extreme use cases

Ah sorry, hard to tell these days!

A lot of people are acting like this is some fundamental flaw that completely breaks your console.

Dude on Gamefaqs just posted this.

https://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/189706-nintendo-switch/75054712/874207256

If 100% he had this prior to the reboot

https://vimeo.com/206410022

Then after reboot

https://vimeo.com/206451272

It still lags a tiny bit when he's far away with it behind his back, but nowhere near the levels of lag in the first video.

Someone best get the Eurogamer douchbag to just reset the console, don't wanna give companies any ideas to force restart after downloading updates

Not odd if you think about it. Before the first reboot you are using the old firmware. During the first reboot you install the new firmware that has the capability to update the joy cons on the next reboot.

plus needing the joycons attached for them to get the update also makes sense. for one the BT ins't reliable to begin with for them to receive the update wirelessly and for two, being attached protects against power failure during update process
