Gamexplain Explains the Joy-Con Desyncing Problem

Doubt they will bother, most likely will fix the issue the next hardware revision.

I don't think Nintendo can ignore this issue for existing users, they will get incredibly bad press coverage if they don't fix this issue for Switch owners.
When you launch a new system the last thing you want is bad press coverage.

As seen in this breakdown, the problem with the left joycon was that the antenna is positioned in the middle of the device which allows your hands to block the signals. This problem doesn't exist for the right joycon because it's positioned at the top of the device.

It's more of a hardware design issue than a software issue I think.

Hmm. So what does this mean for when the joycons are being used while inserted in the grip? I expect it will somewhat improve the situation?

Damn, that sucks. Odd that it fixes the problem for only some people.

Maybe there was both a widespread software issue and a less widespread hardware issue and the update fixes it for people who don't have hardware issues as well, but doesn't fix it for people who have them.

Just received my Switch and the first thing I did was treat the joycons.

No sync uses at all, even when having the joycon behind my back. Only presented problems when being around 6 to 7m away.

Euro switch dark gray model in case that makes any difference.

wow this is really awful! I just picked up my switch and placed the dock right behind my tv. I am now sitting about 1,5 meters from the tv and even when putting the joy cons into the grip the game is basically unplayable!?

Surely Nintendo have to replace the JoyCon if this issue persists. There are adverts of Switch where people are playing games from a distance doing crazy motion controls. If it doesn't work as advertised are you not entitled to a replacement. Hopefully people speak out about this and the gaming media go in on Nintnedo

If I cross my right leg and let the controller rest behind it in my lap while playing the left joycon will start to misfire. Very annoying.

Not having any issues here even specifically obstructing it and I'm currently posting from my tablet with a bluetooth keyboard and broadcasting to a bluetooth speaker right now, but probably only 2 meters away and will never be further.

Tried to play with the joycon grip but the left I've was fucking up quite a bit for me. Bought a pro controller and hoping Nintendo makes this right. Joycons are fine attached but pretty useless for couch gaming for me

Well this definitely settles it for me. I was considering pulling the trigger and buying but I think I'll wait until they do a revision on the joycon.

Got my system. No issues sitting 6 to 7 feet so far. Nothing is obstructing the dock or in between me or the dock. Dock is actually in front of the TV but off to the side of it. My PS3, Wii U, and Wii are all still connect. Router is in a different room though. Been using them separately. Even tried covering them and putting it behind me. Used the grip from the same distance. No issue so far on that front too. Will try later tonight from a much further location to see what happens but I don't doubt distance is the likely factor.

Yeah I think I just had it happen in Zelda, Link just started running with me not moving the left analog at all, it stopped after a few seconds... very concerning, I've only played for about an hour.

Definitely seems like faulty joy-cons. Just tested mines 12 ft away from my switch with ZERO issues. Covering the joy-cons entirely and putting it behind my back didn't do anything. Neon console in the US if anyone cares.

Was nervous about this leading up to last night, but so far no issues to report. I sit about 13 feet away (haha I literally busted out the measuring tape), from the Switch, which I have docked behind my TV on the top of my entertainment console. So in front of the Switch are, in order - the TV, a soundbar (using Samsung AirTrack connection), a coffee table, some junk on the table, and then me on the couch.

So far everything works perfectly. Grey console, USA, for data points.

That's really good to hear. If there are Joy-cons without these issues means that it isn't a chronic design issue and Nintendo can take the L and recall the faulty ones.

Mine is definitely better after the full power cycle thing. I was about six feet from the console. Put the left Joycon behind my back and it totally stopped responding.

Did the power cycle, sat in the exact same chair and tried it behind my back again and it worked completely fine.

Weird

Neon, US console. The tests were literally less than two minutes apart.

This is my experience as well except with a Grey switch. I've tried covering up both joycons, using them behind my back, etc. with zero issues. Sorry to hear about those affected.

Yup, playing Zelda and it's disconnecting every few minutes. Link just keeps running. I have a clear line of sight to the system and it's about 8 feet away. This is inexcusable bullshit. I'll be returning this if they don't announce a remedy fast.

Got my switch today, have ZERO joycon sync problems.
Im sat 8-9 ft away on the sofa. Ive even put them both behing my back and sat back on my hands so the joycons are completely buried into the sofa cushions behing my body, and they both still worked perfectly playing Zelda!
I left them attached to the switch and charging all day before trying this, so both fully charged.
Grey joycons, UK.

I can't replicate this issue even from a 20 foot distance. I updated my console with the joycons attached to the system.

Edit - I copied what GameXplain had been doing to a tea(to get it to malfunction)and I have zero issues with my left joycon.

Count me among the ranks of people who were having an issue at first and fixed the problem by rebooting.

I noticed when rebooting that my Pro Controller actually never fully powered off, it waited a few seconds to resync (by which time the console was already back on). I had to Power Off for the controller to fully power down. I wonder if this would help with the Joy-Cons?

I'm interested in picking up a Switch at some point, hopefully they fix issues like this and the data management stuff. Surely they won't be able to sweep it under the rug forever.

just had this happen to me while playing Zelda

This would be next to impossible in my current living environment (a student flat).

Or for just about anyone living in the year 2017

they really expect me to go hide my laptop, cell phone, router etc etc every time I want to play this thing.

Lol good thing your cell phone isn't required for voice chat or anything.

I'm also having some issues if there's no direct line between the joycon and the Switch. If I set it up at the table, sit in front of the table and put my left hand behind my back (which shouldn't even be 2ft), the joycon is not reliable.
If I sit in front of the TV (5ft) attached to the grip, it works for the most part, even though there were some hiccups here and there. Attached to the Switch itself I haven't had any problems yet.
Did multiple reboots and updated right away, everything with joycons attached.

Couldn't a firmware update be done to boost the signal from the joycon to account for this?

Lol I really love how it goes on to cellphones laptops. Don't have your wireless device near any wireless device ever.... Yeah that's not going to work

Shoutouts to the thread where people said 'just use your phone' when someone lamented the lack of a browser on the Switch tablet.
