Gaming-Age Xbox 360 Hands-On

When asked what the thinking was behind letting gamers plug a competitor's product in to use on a Microsoft device, Mr. Henshaw replied, "Other console makers want to force you to buy brand "S" memory and use a brand "S" format to play on brand "S" TV's. We just want things to work for the gamer and be as easy as possible."
:lol :lol :lol

so there really is no way to copy mp3/wma/etc to the HDD instead of having to use cd's?

i mean, sure at home that's no problem, but for thanksgiving, i won't be home and that means no custom soundtracks unless i re-rip what i want from my cd's or bring my iriver along... ripping was boring and tedious as hell on xbox, i don't want to go thru that again... why do they ignore the obvious and simple solution!?!?

THANK YOU TFM. AND THAT QUOTE YOU PULLED UP IS PERFECT FOR THIS.

I would like to see a few more people upset about this ridiculous oversight. The X360 is essentially just another xbox unless you have Windows XP and a full functional M$$$
home network.

Bullshit.

I am aware of this. I guess what I am really missing out on is the ability to use the 360 HDD like a pc hard drive. Having the mp3's on the drive would allow me to use custom soundtracks in a game like pgr3 without having to grab my ipod, a usb cable, and make sure its charged, likewise it would be nice to have some photos to show friends and family on the HDD so I didn't have to find my digital camera.....and so on....etc.

I just want to know if anyone can provide a satisfactory excuse as to why this is not being allowed by MS. Or if they are just a bunch of stupid money hat wearing bastards who demand the world conform to their bullshit OS and crappy media apps.

Umm, you don't need to attach peripherals to view photos and listen to MP3s. You can just stream them off your PC, and you don't need WMC for it either.
Or you could just use a USB stick.

You need windows XP or Media center.

I just want to be able to use the HDD how I damn well please. Plain and simple. I bought it, it stores data, I should be able to put whatever I damn well please on it.

Question:

What is the width, height, and depth of the power adapter? (in millimeters)

Looks pretty good... And yeah, that power supply is humongous! This all makes me quite bummed that I won't be getting one anytime soon.

Is the 360 compatible with any accessories from the original XBOX (controller port, XBOX Live headset, old memory cards?)

Doubtful on the headset, definitely not for memory cards or old controllers.

Maybe the PS3 will work out better for you then, or the Revolution.....
No offense, but you sound like a spoiled brat dude.

Any headset is compatible, you just love the ability to mute and control the volume. The controller has the jack built in.

Scuse me. We're on GAF. Pardon me for having an opinion and sharing it with the world....sheesh. If Sony pulls the same shit I'll call them on it too. If you don't want to read about it, then fuck off.

Can the nice staff of GAF please put a wireless USB adapter on the 360 and see what happens? I have a Linksys G adapter that I saved just for the 360.

Also, can you see what options are available for manipulating mp3's, jpg's etc., both from optical media and media stored on a networked PC? Can you store them locally to the 360?

You're not sharing an opinion though. Just annoying the shit out of people with your unecessary angry rants.
Either boycott the 360 or shut the fuck up and take what MS dishes you like a man......

I just chose to add you to my ignore list.

Don't like my opinion? Do the same. You seem to be the only one I'm annoying. Look to the top of this very page to find someone who agrees with me and even quotes MS to help me further establish my point.

Where's your backup?

My xbox 360 has been preordered and paid for since I got back from E3, y'know, when they said all games in HD and wireless and all that...including the quote from the Faceless Master above. Now it looks like bullshit hyperbole to me. I'll enjoy the games and the HDera and all that. But I take issue with them telling me that the 360 is the new center of my digital home*

*If I have an XP PC or Media center or just love having digital cams and iPod's hanging off my component rack

I'm not an annoying fanboy and I don't bitch about pointless shit. This is a reasonable complaint that other GAF members share. If you don't agree then join another discussion.

I'm not completely disagreeing with your HDD stance but you really should upgrade to Windows XP. I don't know how anyone can use 98/95 or *shudder* ME anymore.
