Gaming guilty pleasures?

The atrocities I committed were unspeakable, yet there comes a time when even a mute must learn to communicate, and that time is now.

My men and I formed a gestapo of sorts, rounding up and exploiting the weak for fun and profit. We relentlessly pursued all those associated in any way to the game, collectable, and movie. As the profit amassed, so did my already large ego, and I began indulging myself in the very activity I had set to outlaw with my fellow grade 7 oppressors. I began playing Pokemon.

As our influence opened into previously uncharted terrorities, so did my eyes to the terror we were spreading. There was no shame in Pokemon, yet we instilled shame in it. There was no danger in POkemon, yet we had made it a dangerous activity to partake. As enlightenment took hold, I realized that my secret would reveal itself at some point in the future; no matter how much I hid my love for the game I publicly hated, my men--the very men I had trained to fulfill my orders--had become too good at what they did. It was time to come clean. It was time to go hard or go home. It was time to sign, seal, and deal my destiny by destroying the organization of fear I had created, and with it, Pokemon's largest enemy.

Would my attempts to reform a system of brutality and corruption that I had created successful, or was my character assassinated to the point where I began posting on message boards under the username 'opinionatedcyborg'? The answer lies in front of your eyes :(.

Nintendo totally cribbed this from Konami...

Or did Konami crib it from Sega? Bishibashi plays almost identically to Sega's 1992 arcade game Puzzle & Action Tant-R, after all. Speaking of which, Tant-R is one of the few games not-completely-ruined on the new $20 Sega Classics disc for PS2. If you guys are into Bishibashi you should really check it out.

I'm saddened that some of you feel guilty for being into the games you're listing. Capcom's Disney games? NBA Jam? Rush 2049???? And come on, everyone knows that even Pokemon non-fans dig the Snap.

Thanks, I'll check it out. Hopefully it's equally as good as Bishi Bashi Special.

Honestly, I enjoyed the Bishi Bashi Special frantic mini-game concept; but Wario Ware was f'ing awful.

The Midway Rush games are legitimate guilty pleasures. You have to have some form of mild retardation to appreciate them. :P

Hrrm... would you feel better if we played Barbie's Horse Adventure or something? I really can't think of anything that I play that's more incriminating that Pokemon Snap... I suck. :-(

Winnie the Pooh, for Gamecube

Bought it for my son, he's too young to control it so I have to, and underneath it's not a bad adventure game

i like bad shooters. i'm not sure there are shooters bad enough to fall below my enjoyment threshhold. i recently 1cc'd star soldier vanishing earth on n64, which is a complete travesty. i'm the only person in the world who likes ps2 choaniki. whenever i read shooter message boards, i'm shocked to find that games i consider minor classics are universally regarded as utter crap.

i can still tell the difference between good shooters and bad shooters, though. and of course i prefer the good ones. so it hasn't become a harry-knowlesian fetishization of crap. which is comforting.

oh, and though i recognize that it's an unfinished half-game with loads of problems, i like stretch panic.

Dead or Alive: Extreme Beach Volleyball. :D

SO not a good game. Bad dating sim... even worse volleyball game. Can't even jerk off to it, which is its sole purpose- very disappointing.

My boyfriend's dad got a hunting game for Christmas and I watched him play over the holidays. He's the kind of man who goes to sleep in camo pajamas, wakes up at four am to go hang out in trees with a gun and has stuffed animals everywhere in his house. He got really, really into it but I found it pretty boring.

Personally, I'm really looking forward to Finny the Fish and the Seven Waters- played a demo for it that was all in Japanese. I couldn't figure out how to escape from the area I started in (the feat called for a complicated series of maneuvers for a fish, like jump and twitch - and I mean, come on- the controls were all in Japanese), all I did was re-cue a very long not-in-English cut scene over and over. Not a fishing game per se but you get to BE A FISH! Sounds great to me. If I can ever figure out how to get over that wall.

Any game where you can fish, decorate, or do something that was just thrown into the game at the last second. Basically... Animal Crossing.

"No good."
"I missed."
"I got it."
"Not bad."
"Man so close."
"Alright."

Yep! With repetitive, unemotional voice-overs included...I'm addicted to Darts 7 in Shenmue I & II!

It's pretty simple. Just takes some practice.

I managed to clear the training area of the OPM demo, but I met an early grave when I was caught by some jerkass playing Sega Bass. >:|

US release is gonna be hotness!

Games you rationally shouldn't like, but are mysteriously compelled to play.

Sort of like Sea Manky's sick fascination with destruction derby games. I hope someone else releases a new destruction derby game around Christmas, so I can get him a copy with some Skoal. :lol

Hey, screw you buddy! There's no reason I shouldn't like smashing my car into other cars and getting rewarded for it! >:O >spits chaw<

Honestly, I can't think of any game types that I'm actually ashamed of liking. I know I like a lot of unpopular stuff, but that's not the same thing. And while I'm mentioning it, PROJECT EDEN FUCKING RULES, BUY SUB REBELLION, BUY DROPSHIP

Bowling games!! I love bowling games, they're amazingly fun, even if it's the same damn thing all the time. Can't get enough of them.

Muzzle Flash.

I played the F outta that S, despite its HORRIBLE graphics (by Xbox standards) and touch and go controls. Why? Because 1). huge open-ended level design 2). awesome, tough-as-shit but realistic A.I. It was a bit like Farcry without the eagle-sharp computer eyes.

If you like dynamic, unpredictable shooter (that can be played in first or third person), check it out. :)

Is that a Japan-only shooter??

Oh yeah, import Xbox game... came out around Feb. 2003. The first 500 buyers received a free camoflauge net for their Xbox!

I frequently play through Maniac Mansion on the NES. As a matter of fact, I'm going to do that right now...

I really liked "Shadow Madness" on PS1, an RPG in the style of FF7 that generally got low scores. But it has some of the best music I've heard on that system, plus an enjoyable storyline.

I liked Grabbed by the Ghoulies.

Awesome game - and I'm one of the few people that loved Blinx - though Blinx 2 didn't have the same charm as the first.

Oh, and I loooooooooove Baseball Stars 2 - have yet to play a better baseball game.

I've beaten Blue Stinger twice and once in a while I consider giving it yet another go.

I too love Blue Stinger, the original import!! I thought the camera was fine and they jacked it up in the US version because people complained. They'd play the Resident Evil games, but bitch about Blue Stinger. Anyway the bathtub scene has got to be the funniset skit in a video game. ;)

I liked Shaq Fu.... the character Beast was so awesome..

I think I beat that game at least 15 times with each character.

I also liked Grabbed By The Ghoulies quite a bit.

Similar to Luigi's Mansion, maybe just a notch below overall. Both are good games.

I'm not really ashamed of anything I play - though I'm not eager to share that I'm very much into Magic: The Gathering Online. The game has an unfortunate stigma (one that I can understand however, just go into your average game shop and take a look at most people that play the game) but the game is infinitely fun and challenging. What i'm ashamed of is the amount of money i've sunk into it over the years. Most people balk at the thought of paying for "virtual" cards.

But here's something: I sold a Meddling Mage for $50 a couple weeks ago - I paid $3.69 for it back when Invasion/Planeshift/Apocalypse was still "in-print" (the pack I ripped it from)

Oh well. Anyone here that does play MTGO, my account name is the same on here. :)

I enjoy bad survival horror. I'm probably the only gamer on Earth who has completed both Blue Stinger and D2.

Sigh... Dreamcast, how I miss you.
I beat Blue Stinger on every difficulty levels!! D2? well i played it :P

I will play ANY volleyball game, so I really wanted to get Dead or Alive, but never got the chance. It's super rare now isn't it? :(

I enjoy fishing.... in Animal Crossing

AHHHHHH RED SNAPPA!!! MMMMMMMMM, VERY TASTY!

I also have been known to buy games in shiny boxes or with the word "gun" in the title

I've been playing the GBC version of Scrabble a lot lately. It's the type of thing that is fun to play when you've got a few minutes, of if you're doing something else at the same time.

It may be hard to find brand new, but my bro bought a copy for like $6 at the local Funcoland... was it worth it? Entirely debatable :lol
