Gaming PC For Under $1500?

For that HP Envy deal, is it recommended to get an SSD? If so, would 256GB be enough, without getting a secondary hard drive?

You'd be saving hundreds if you do. I always recommend at least watching some videos online and see if you feel inspired. You'd be surprised at how satisfying it can be build your own.

I have to say though, if you just take that exact PC you'd build yourself and then order it somewhere pre-built it'd probably cost you very little more, and save you an afternoon of putting it together. :P

My PC don't have SSD, so that makes mine a trash? ;__;

An SSD is pretty great if you like running out of space on your drive. :P

Yay my updated OP finall- oh they want prebuilt
I might jump on that HP deal. Is the 980 worth $200 - 30% = $140 on top of the 970?
Debatable. If it fits in budget fine, if not, also fine. Either card will last until new HBM cards are out. If you want to keep it a bit longer then the 980 is a good value upgrade for the PC at $140.

I guess I'll jump on the 980 then.

Also thanks for all your work in the Build a PC thread. You've helped me and a few of my friends a bunch!

Don't want to build my own

There are some stores that will build it for you for a reasonable fee such as NCIX.

What the fuck, that's like the deal of the century right there.

No offense but you would be stupid not to.
Or people have different values

Unless if they are uninformed and choose to stay uninformed

Go to your local computer repair store. See what it would cost to have them make you one. I had mine made for me with almost no labor. Only real thing I paid for was the work on the leds. They gave me 3 different builds, then had me change what I wanted. Same benefits as building on, but without actually doing the work.

I've been tasked with getting a PC built or configured for my wife this summer and I pulled the trigger on that HP deal - the discount and the rebate make it too good to pass up, even with the risk I'm running being in the dark regarding the Motherboard and PSU. Just the prices of the SSD, HDD, Video Card, and Processor added to cart on Newegg.com are equal to the price of this entire personally-configured computer HP is selling with the discount+rebate applied.

You will not save 100s if you are diligent about your purchase. Bought a $1800 gaming rig last year and cost to assemble, ship, overclock and guarantee the build was $70 more than the best prices listed on pcpartpicker (some of which didn't include shipping).

I've built many PCs and this was so much more time efficient I can't recommend it enough.

If you need new gaming rig and your budget is up to $1,100 you should definitely hop on that deal, seriously..

or if you enjoy the sensation of seeing everything, literally everything, that you install onto that drive run better than it ever would have otherwise :p

at this point there's more money in the SSDs in my computer than there is in any other given part. They're worth every penny. 2x 500gb drives = my operating system boots in literally a second or two, and every single one of my games and performance-sensitive programs has room to live.

Actually, I lied. Digital Storm used to be a good choice 5 years ago, but now it seems like just buying a prebuilt is better. Unless you are planning on overclocking and want future updatability, but OP doesn't seem like they would care much for either.

Digital Storm tried to convince me that I spilled coffee inside my G-SYNC monitor when I sent it in for repairs. Fuck Digital Storm.

That HP page changed since I clicked on it the first time.....looks like someone caught on.

Heheh, 1TB wouldn't hold half the games I have installed on my Rig. I have 3.5TB of space and I'm almost out.

I was considering getting a gaming PC but I barely play any games anymore but that deal looks good, the HP deal. I'm gonna be mad passing it up.

Go with a minimum of a 120hz monitor. I can NEVER go back to a 60/75hz monitor it's just too sluggish. Trust me, just experience the glory and you will never be sad.

Not the best deal, but ASUS has pretty good gaming Desktop for under $1500 (no rebate required)

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SXRQ3IK/?tag=neogaf0e-20

ASUS G10AJ-US010S Gaming Desktop

Intel Core i7-4790 3.6 GHz Processor
16 GB DDR3 RAM
2 TB 7200 rpm Hard Drive
128 GB Solid State Drive
NVIDIA GTX970 Graphics
Windows 8.1

I made one with same speccs (if not better) under 10min using Amazon for $1192 (and it could be even cheaper if I searched harder).

edit: add $50 for 128GB SSD,

I bit on the HP deal. Hexacore i7-5820k with GTX 960.

It's been like a decade since I've had a nice desktop. Time to relegate the laptops to their intended purpose: being mobile, not to use as my main computing device.

980s must've sold out - secured a build with one on Saturday.

RIP me >_>

Well, my situation is a bit odd. I have 1.8k as my budget and I need a laptop for college and a desktop for gaming. Needless to say, I've been nagged to go the "get a nice laptop" route, but I don't really want to go that route. Sooo- any options?

Get a tablet for college and a nice desktop.

Huuuuuuge mistake. Building a PC saves you hundreds and is like putting Legos together. It's easy as hell as long as you follow instructions. You'll also learn to upgrade and diagnose problems much easier down the line.

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM HP

Their shit is prone to running hot all the time and will start overheating on you after the warranty expires. No to HP.

This is a desktop, if the processor runs too hot you can easily buy a new CPU cooler or buy a more air efficient case.

This is the problem with prebuilt. If you plan on buying from the large vendors they are going to cut corners on your motherboard.

I notice this with pretty much every pre-built (at least ones that are along the same costs as buying and building yourself). Every part will be listed except for the motherboard and power supply (and maybe the storage). I couldn't imagine buying one of these things without knowing that info.
