Any of you dudes read the latest chapters (up to 190)?

Two interesting things popped up:

1) 22 points until Kurono gets 100! I had no idea he was this close. I guess I forgot. ^^; I remember in one mission he got 40, and considering the badass in this one I'd say he has a good chance of a 22. Or a negative 22. :lol

2) He wants to bring back Tae first. >_> I get that he loves her the most, but since he plans to revive everybody (3 other people) the weapon is the wisest choice.

Who knows. I doubt it's going to go as smooth as I'm predicting here (vampires, anyone?) and maybe he will decide to get the weapon. As you can guess I really want to see it. :D

Oh and that kid is annoying. There's too much story to be wasting it on those side characters! PFFT! :p

No matter what the author decides to do, I'm sure it will end up annoying. My personal opinion is that this series has been too unfocused...

The
Tae
drama was interesting, but it also seemed like the author is trying his hardest to make
Kurono
suffer. It's retarded.

I don't think it's retarded. What happened to Kurono changed him -- he evolved. He became a leader. At the beginning of Gantz he didn't care of others died, and now he's looking out for everybody. Tae was the reason for that. It did a lot more than just make him suffer.

I understand your point, but
the way the author went to do it was ridiculous. Out of every human out there, Tae was the one who took the picture, and they had to hunt her down?
Give me a break.

I mean, it's a cool series with great action sequences - but Gantz has not proved itself to be anything more than mindless action fodder. In my opinion, anyway..

I definitely think there are pacing issues from time to time (it's not a very readable chapter manga, but seems far more acceptable in volumes), but if you think about it, every setback Kei has faced over the series seems meant to either build his leadership ability or keep him focused on staying in the game. Every time a distraction appears, every time Kei finds a reason to get out of the game, GANTZ seems to take control.

Food for thought...

It's very possible Gantz plans things more then it looks like. We know it 'sent' Izumi to bring in more people. Before that I thought it was just this thing that brought in random dead people to do its dirty work.

Gantz could be 'training' kurono or something like that. I think we'll find out when the whole 'end of the world' and 'invasion' stuff gets sorted out. His brother is already on the other side and happens to be the anti-kurono in his character... So Gantz isn't the only one planning ahead maybe. XD

Just some discussion about the whole Gantz universe thing... and I think it's something the mangaka is very much aware of and writes the story with it in mind...

Is that... every time, they get teleported or whatever, it's a new copy. Essentially, the current instance of the individual is destroyed, along with the pain and grief and whatever else for that particular instance of the individual. So the particular irony is that Even after a successfuly mission, or even going into the mission, the person that does that mission, isn't the same person that 'respawns'. They have the last memories of the previous person and all that, but the previous person won't have any knowledge of what happens after they're teleported... as they're dead.

I think he kinda highlights this with the fact that there are TWO kishimoto kei's (or was).

The series becomes almost humourous when viewed in that light, and you can see the mangaka trying to convey these warped and twisted ideas of 'ultimate scale' when continually inflicting pain upon the characters... that ultimately, only last a single trip anyway. It's also emphasized by the fact that they're chosen from people that have already died (violently); have already suffered pain and death... and that they return with no injuries after missions, with little care for the injuries that they have suffered before!

In this frame of thought... the idea of Kei trying to revive all the people that died during the temple mission is quite amusing. The current instance of Kei is so far removed from those people... yet the memories he has still lingers. It's laughably futile... and ultimately just a satisfaction of the id of the each current instance of Kei to pursue their 'resurrection'.

So anybody catching up to the manga? I saw the raws for the last few chapters, and god they're boring.

chapter 197 could've been done in 3 or 4 pages max!

Vampires cooperating with the aliens (who know about gantz) seemed like a good direction, but everything went downhill later.

Boring? How can you say that? :p

If you're a fan of Gantz at all, you'll have at least been caring about the characters so far. You don't know how crazy it was driving me to see how Sakurai and Sakata would handle the oni alien. 197 is tragic if anything. :(

Are you guys still reading Gantz?

I haven't read a scantlation for maybe 7 chapters. I just check out the raw for a new chapter and go through it in 5 seconds then yawn.

I still read Gantz. Yeah some people think its dragging on too much, but i'm still digging it.
The chapters are really really bare bones, but oh well, that doesn't stop me from wanting to know what the hell happens.
