And I thought it was going to look like Dark Legacy. Good to see Midway/Atari/whatever decided to spend some money on this thing. It felt like they were using that Legends engine for like, ever.

Yup 4 Player Online over XBL. Suck it down bitches.

Honestly this looks like the single best game from Midway thus far this year. The designs are perfect and they will be able to (hopefully) involve some sort of story into the game.

The engine is a breath of fresh air and will probably be used to power other midway games I would assume.

+ Adds to wishlist.

This is far,and I mean very, very far from being a CoN-Killer. In the end,it looks to me like Snowblind is retaining the crown.

artwise, i actually think it looks closer to the original Gauntlet than those abominations Midway put out a few years back. Would you really prefer to have the wizard to have humongous tits, a fro, and a bright yellow spandex swimsuit?

gameplay wise, i guess the logical evolution of the old school Gauntlet series was something similar to BG: Dark Alliance or Champions of Norrath. I still want rooms filled with tons and tons of baddies though.

I don't like this mainly because it looks like they have muffed up the camera.

If they give us some over-the-shoulder bullshit or Devil-May-Cry cam, I will be kind of disappointed. Gauntlet means "TOP DOWN".

I'm glad someone gets my point.

Resident Evil means prerendered backgrounds and stupid zombies and Final Fantasy means random encounter. Oh wait...
Move on.

10 bucks says they slapped "gauntlet" to the front of the name during production

Umm what, we have known over a year that a new Gauntlet named Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows is coming and John Romero is involved in it...

Tits and fro>>>>>>>>>>>>yet another &&*)&ing Gandalf clone or skinny elf

That level design and camera angle doesn't look right for Gauntlet gameplay.

But it is what the Gauntlet series needs.
Yeah, and Gran Turismo needs to switch to a 3/4 camera perspective ala RC Pro AM. What Gauntlet NEEDS to do is remember it's roots and not stray too far from what made the series so popular to begin with. This looks like yet another generic action-RPG with an identity crisis.

Gauntlet = top-down perspective with hordes and hordes of enemies, none of which are represented in those screenshots.

You have a good point, but what they've shown here so far looks good, too. This isn't a remake of the old games, but an entirely modernized sequel. The classic Gauntlet arcade games were generally designed to suck down as many quarters in as short an amount of time as possible--because that's what arcade games were supposed to do. This game is designed as a home game, so it's not too surprising that it's straying somewhat from the old formula. Many of the Pac-Man, Mario, and Sonic games in recent years have all deviated from the original concept, and a lot of those games have been very successful.

Snowblind Studios has done a great job in advancing this style of gameplay in recent years, with Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, Champions of Norrath, and Champions: Return to Arms. While it's clearly too early to call this a "Champions killer" yet, Midway seems to be putting forth a serious attempt to take back the crown. From the screens shown of this game, I would say that the Champions games still look more impressive technically, but this game seems to have more variety in the level design and architecture.

This screen reminds me a bit of Ico:

Is Gamespot FOR or AGAINST watermarks? They've been good lately, now these have them over it. Does it depend on the person or something?

I've always been a fan of Gauntlet, and before getting my new comp, have been replaying Dark Legacy on the GCN.

That said, I'm a little skeptical about this. Wish they'd show a GUI or something that marked this clearly as gameplay.

Cool art, even if it looks to "serious" to be Gauntlet.
