Skyblivion first 15 minutes

Article:
I spoke to Skyblivion project lead Kyle 'Rebelzize' Rebel ahead of Creation Mod Con about where the modders are at in terms of announcing the mod's full release date. "Progress is generally good, volunteer based projects are always a challenge due to people sometimes dropping out or not having as much time to contribute as in the past," he told me. "To work around that we try as much as possible to keep the project a bit flexible and change our MVP (minimum viable product) according to the team's capability. I'd say recent developments made us come closer to a potential date announcement, but we will be able to share more about that at a later date."

The team also revealed that in addition to the GOG release they announced back in June, a release via Nexus Mods is also locked in and there are plans to offer the mod for free via Steam too. I'm intrigued to see how that last one might differ from the other two.

Still a ways off I guess. Can't wait to see how this turns out.

I was worried they would simply Skyim-ize the art and environments with heavily muted colors, but instead they nailed the familiar yet almost-painterly look that they were going for. It makes it look somewhere between Skyrim and ESO but with it's own touch.

I really like how most of it looks artistically.

agree it's a dam shame, the timing as well. I know a lot of people put literally thousands of hours in.
I just put over 100 hours into the remake but this showing was seriously so impressive that I would do it again. Plus, it sounds like they aren't that close to completion. I think enough time will pass and enough will be wildly different with this version to make it's own impact.

This is the application.
Not the first time a modder was hired by the company either. However, under the Microsoft banner, I am not fully certain if they'll be getting much other than the letter and free copy of the remake they got... not unless there is an actual job posting available for them to reach out to.

And that's fine, the application doesn't need to be towards Microsoft. This team got quite a bit of attention anyway due to the Remaster releasing. I'm sure another publisher, who isn't one of the typical old guard publishers, wouldn't mind picking these guys up for a good RPG in the future.

Waste of time if they can't sell the mod. They were better off applying for work at Bethesda Studios.

Looks good.

Bought Oblivion Game of the Year Edition a long time ago on CD, only to never actually play it (I had played it originally on Xbox 360, and it was a sick game).

Way more hyped for this than the remaster and overall going to be way better with all the improved stuff they did for the other zones and extras plus better modding. Can't wait for both Skyoblivion and Skywind to come, I'm guessing 2026 and 2027 for the latter.

The team should add the best mods of skyrim to this to make the game more enjoyable. I already played oblivion remastered. This is more of the same

TES just doesn't have the magic it used to. It took like a decade to port ahead an ancient game to an already ancient upgrade of a not-so-great engine. There's just no audience for this anymore, and there's a reason why Bethesda has pushed off the next mainline game for so long. Ye olde formula has aged like bread.

I have zero interest in slogging through this, no matter how much (marginally) prettier it is. I know that sounds negative. But that footage did nothing for me at all.

Also "Skyblivion" is freaking stupid, and I hate hearing that guy say it constantly with such gravitas.

I have every interest in playing this, and I'll be adding some more modern mods to it to further enhance the experience. Might even treat myself to a GOG copy for simplicity's sake.

I've no interest in games that perform like shit just for fancier animations and lighting, and even with limitations of the engine any old machine will brute force this to be nice and smooth.

I assume they didn't because modding is such a personal choice. You can add as much or as little as you like, and these days you have curated lists to help the process.

I got around 10 hours in Skyrim Remake, but it was a mess to play from a technical perspective so just dropped it. I much prefer the look of this from an artistic perspective and since it's running on Skyrim's engine hopefully it'll be a breeze to run. Hoping I can play it on Steam Deck too!
