Gears Ultimate Beta Access

I definitely seem to prefer gears 3, I really wanted this but am hating centre screen aiming and character movement speed. I apologise but I like what I like.
 
Shout outs to people who wait in the lobby and quit when there is 5 seconds left in the countdown or when the map loads. Fucking bums. I love this game, but the matchmaking is the purest essense of booty, but not the good kind.

This is not meant to sound snarky, but what do you expect from a Gears 1 remaster? Gears 1 had center screen aiming and no wall cancelling.

Is it even possible to invite others?

If you're in party chat, you can coordinate with friends to play on a foreign, unpopulated server, such as Japan or Southeast Asia, and join/ quit until you're in the same room and on the same team. I was able to play with a team if 3 and 4 doing this. Sometimes it's fast, sometimes it takes a bunch of attempts. People are even playing scrims with this method.

Perhaps not enabling parties in the beta has something to do with it?

I'm guessing they want to test solo matchmaking, lobby repopulation and the games ability handle join in progress.

Anyone want my beta code? Rather give it to someone who is going to get some use out of it over the next couple of days since I won't be able to. First person to quote this gets it.

A lot of people on the Gears forums are having the same adjustment issues you seem to be having. Unfortunately, many haven't played Gears 1, and many aren't as polite or reasonable as you. They are honestly upset that the game isn't Gears 3: 2015 Edition. I've seen people demand that they add meat shields, stopping power and nade tagging. Those are all features that fundamentally alter the pace of the game.

Sure, Ultimate isn't a 1:1 copy of Gears 1. There are changes, but most of them are things that Gears 1 fans wanted changed anyway. Plus, the game, at its core is very much Gear 1 still.

They said parties are disabled because the party system was not ready yet for the public beta. So basically it is currently broken and needs to be fixed in 2 months time for the release of the game
 
Most 1v1 gnasher battles begin with both players missing at least two shots.

The song and dance between two gnasher players going head to head is my favorite thing about Gears 1. Aside from that, I really don't know why the feeling of the entire game was not replicated with the other Gears. This game always felt faster than the rest of the other games. It feels like they added weight to the characters or something and it's immediately noticeable when you roadie run in Gears 2/3. I never played Gears 2/3 as much as I did 1, played it for two - three years straight. I always felt it's faster and more satisfying when you kill other people than the other two games and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
 
Not ready doesn't necessarily mean broken does it?

Q: Why can I not invite friends to join my party (squad) in the beta?
A: Unfortunately we are currently undergoing issues with our party system in Gears: UE that were not able to be fixed for our beta, but will be fixed for the live game. For that reason, party systems had to be disabled for the beta.

It's currently broken.

Sorry to hear man. Working on the weekends always sucks. Just be careful getting home. Getting on 5 minutes before or 30 minutes before won't change that you will still unlock him. You also can't play as him today anyway.
 
It was super nice of Microsoft to finally send my codes last night so I can enjoy the last two days of a week long beta. Thanks!

Sure, Ultimate isn't a 1:1 copy of Gears 1. There are changes, but most of them are things that Gears 1 fans wanted changed anyway. Plus, the game, at its core is very much Gear 1 still.
That's because in all honesty, Gears 3 has the best multiplayer even with the few faults it has.

I have an open NAT and I have tried for 3 separate 30 min sessions and I couldn't get in to a single game.

No matter what server I tried I got nothing. Complete waste of the 1 week beta for me.

I disagree. Gears 1 is definitely clunky compared to Gears 2&3. You can not wall bounce really. The movement is very weighted. Also actives are in gears 1, so how did this ruin gears 3? Stopping power is annoying but not game breaking.
 
Might be starting to finally click for me again. I just went 14 kills/11 downs/1 death. And with at least 3 kills stolen from me while I was going up to curb stomp.

Finally.

EDIT: Follow it up with a 5/5/6 statline and then a 9/5/4 to end the morning. Way too many kill-stealers in this game. I had a dude down near boomshot today and a guy on my team came around the corner from spawn and stole the kill with his pistol from way the fuck over by the rounded corner while I was reloading.

Having played and owned the first 3, Gears 3 had it's share of problems but it was definitely smoother to play.

after about a year my only issue with 3 was the pre-active mentality.

I like Smooth cover transitioning, I like wall canceling, and I goddamn like having a physical point of reference for my gnasher.
 
Been playing almost every day since the beta went up. I don't know if I'll be able to wait two months for it to come out again lol. :(

Took a while to get back used to this after playing Gears 3 so much, but it's beginning to come back.

You act like this is the most up to date build. This is probably the same secret beta from a few months ago.

Kill stealing is irrelevant IMO, I dont do it much but it doesnt affect the match outcome at all, sometimes I even leave people downed while I focus on someone else, and let someone else kill them for me.
 
TDM is really getting tired. These maps weren't built around a respawn type of gameplay. I can't wait until I can get Execution in. One life, cherish it.

Never got this to be honest. It's a team game. If another player gets a down and your close by then go in and finish. How do you know that the player that got the down won't get killed getting the kill?

Doesn't bother me. If I get a down, feel free to do the team a favour and finish it.

K/d ratio shouldn't matter in gears.

It's pretty representative of Gears 1 multiplayer.

It even makes you join rooms over and over trying to find your friends.

Like old times.
