Originally released in 2006, ten years later it was remastered in 2016, 10 years later from that release I finished the campaign.



Bile, gruesome and intense is how I describe Gears of War.

I remember hearing about post multiplayer matches in 7th grade study hall, classmates flexing on one another, I don’t know why I didn’t play gears in 2006, 07’ but the gears bug finally caught up with me.



Gears of war, made by the Coalition I’d say is absolutely a horror game, but it’s treated as a shooter first.



I still can’t figure out the story but it gives you enough pieces (Sera planet, Baird’s military history through Judgement etc.) Marcus overall btw is a beast. And I’ll get into the characters below.

I like how they get other characters involve (Baird and Cole from another unit, and Dom, and also Jack.) and it can draw comparisons to cooperative gameplay in another game.

Playing through Gears 1 makes me thrilled to play the upcoming Gears E-Day and explore Marcus and what made him this classic box office character.

I think SONY thought it’s Killzone was on Gears of War level, I got caught up in Killzone 2 with its dude soldier chapters, heavy gameplay and there was no reason why there was a Killzone vs Gears debate but that really was the environment back than.

Socom Combined Assault also released in 2006.

A lot of people say Gears of War opened a new door for players on Socom, many forgot a reason why Sony’s Socom died was people leaving it for Xbox and Gears of war…

Overall with good enemies, short and sweet campaign and everything works I have gears of war 1 in my top 10 games of all time.

What did GAF think of this particular game? Was the coop fun? Did you party chat and play Gears 1 mp when you came home from school? Best third person shooter of all time?

Awesome game. And the Ultimate Edition (only version I ever played) is a good upgrade over the original.
Gears 2 is a better game overall, but both are great games with more interesting set pieces than anything that followed in the rest of the series.

I actually played through this again last week and it’s still good but overshadowed by the superior sequels.

Made me want to play through the entire series along with Tactics which I’ve never gotten more then a hour into.

Proper game for real men. Awesome game to play with the lads over a few cans and a 3.5 of sniff. Playing as Roided up on compound stack heroes, doing proper man stuff like smashing the fucken heads in on those bitch ass coward goon fake muscleman aliens. They can fuck right off, ugly scruffy cunts.

Sad when you’re in a nest and that geezer finds his dead missus. Luckily the main dude can talk some sense back into him to stop him becoming a crying femboy. It’s like “listen to me my mucka, use this anger when we come to the next room of chest high barricades”

When it comes to dialogue, what Marcus says makes you feel good and it’s hard to find a better dude brah confident military shooter, it’s what a lot of shooters want.

I would think they would give the remaster ultimate edition treatment to the sequels so right now I’m playing on 360 era level graphics you know what I mean. My eyes adjusted and those graphics from that era I still consider ok, posters on here will say nah, and 360 era graphics are fucked up.

Still feel blue balls from them doing the Ultimate Edition for 1, and then never moving onward for the series.

I just want 3 with better graphics, 120+ FPS, and mouse/keyboard controls.

I never had a 360 but finally played 1-3 on a One around a decade ago. I enjoyed them but 3 was my favorite.

Since my Game Pass ran out, I don't have Gears and Halo which I've been wanting to replay. My Series X collects dust. I'm Sony first so at this point, I'll just wait for these collections for my Pro, I assume they are coming!? Gears E-Day is getting a PlayStation release isn't it?

Those are good questions, what’s your issue with renewing game pass? I was Sony first than I changed that earlier this year (Joined the green rats) so it’s funny I was kinda in a similar situation as you so my advice is don’t worry about what tribe you fall in, play those fucking games because we’re gamers first.

The only bad thing I can say about this game is that even on the hardest difficulty it's too easy, other than that it is still amazing.

It's too expensive, most of the library I've played or not interested in. I prefer the eco system of PlayStation, always been a Sony fanboy, but the Xbox exclusives are not enough to keep me paying. I had one of those stacks going where I had 3+ years of Xbox Ultimate, now that's over, I'm not paying $20+ AUD a month. I prefer the PlayStation Controller, I prefer Sony exclusives. And why would I need an Xbox now more than ever if I'm going to get Xbox games on PS? Plus I have a decent gaming PC, If I really want Game Pass I can purchase for that.

Gears 1 is in my top 10 too. But it’s not what killed SOCOM, that was Sonys own stupidity.

Awesome stuff, when Epic Games was Epic. I played UT3 on PS3 so much back then too.
