God, I cannot believe how many people got brain damaged because of TBC and WotLK. Alt runs in Vanilla? For who? 1-2 guilds per server? Vanilla was a massive grind, massive mats farm, bosses were dying not to skill but due to player farming the hell out of thrash pulls in MC and crafted items (which took 1-2 months of grinding alone). It was worse than an Asian MMO. To make damn flasks you were farming herbs for 3 hours a day.
No one was "geared" in MC? Do you even remember how much effort it took do get Dungeon Set 1? That UBRS, LBRS, BRD, Strat took 4-5 fucking HOURS each?
I quit WoW and I truly hope that for one time only Blizz puts back a raid on par with Vanilla so that Ensidia, and other top guilds can go back to whinning to tune it down. Then the rest of "hardcore" will come whinning to nerf content as well.
Uh first of all in Vanilla you could raid BRS so no those dungeons did not take long at all, they were on constant farm months later the cap came. The longest dungeon was BRD ...and you didnt need to do that for DS gear and plenty of people skipped it in favor of UBRS and LBRS. BRD was done for Dark Iron crafting runs. Second of all Strat and Scholo were far shorter than both of those.
Second of all no , no one was "geared" when people started taking on MC, DS gear was a joke from the gate, no one farmed trashmobs , trashmobs wrecked people until we found enough fire resistance items , comsumables that buffed stats, idiot paladins started believing me about blessing of kings
, crafted items etc. It was very hard and the BEST non MC gear barely got ya to the first boss , but with plenty of downtime and careful treading. So i dunno where your getting the notion that DS gear was enough HA, more like zul gurub gear was. The only raid even worth mentioning in dungeon gear was Onyxia that was beaten in open beta so ill give people that.
I disagree with bosses dying to massive farming only, yes alot of resources were required, but if you didnt do the encounter right you had to be WAY overgeared to still survive. So again if you were in a guild that was one of the groups learning the raid instance , it didnt matter how much pre MC crap you had (unless this is post zul gurub).
Alt runs in MC? Hell yeah , i think i can safely say even though MC was quite a plateau in difficulty compared to dungeons , lots and lots of guilds got thru that raid, and lots of people from guilds just grouped up alts from multiple guilds and ran raids in there to gear up for BWL etc. It was easier to find a MC or ZG group than it was to find a heroic before the much improved LFG tool. Maybe you were on a underpopulated server or your faction was low pop.
The only thing i can attest to being a super grind, was dark iron rep, good grief yes that took alot to get the needed fire resistance sets for tanks, but spread across multiple miners and crafters its much easier, again some people prolly tried to solo this instead of grouping up and taking it on with guildmates.
